  1. i bred a litter of working terrier x greyhound. many years ago. 1989/90. the sire was a well worked terrier off linebred patts brightmore based stock. the greyhound was a natural fox killer. (like most greyhounds tend to be given chance) and was used for coursing and on the lamp. there was 7 in the litter 6 dogs and 1 bitch. i tried to get them to working homes by putting a letter in the shooting news/countrymans weekly. looking for folk with the work for them. three pups never made two due to a liking for mutton. two went to wales. a dog and a bitch. the dog was still trying to catch with his
  2. there is a thread running in the terrier section on borders just now. there are folk on here with whippet crosses. i think skycat has one. defo worth a look
  3. i,m definately doing something wrong. ive got four bitches and i,m still fecking skint. interesting read this fella's
  4. a border terrier cross would have the course coat and borders have the toughest hide ive ever seen on terriers probably due to there histery of otter hunting. some have skin like rhino's
  5. should do what you want just fine. but i would have wanted it around your mink from around five six weeks old. ive used whippet terrier crosses for similar hunting for years and they are ideally suited. but if you need a good bit of speed a three quarter bred would be better my terrier whippet first cross. indestructable but lacks a gear.
  6. I use Canon, but I do think Nikon are better. But I've got too much £ worth of gear to change....maybe one day I might. The lens will be far too slow, for taking any decent image on anything other than the brightest of bright days. There will be too much blur that you'll struggle to shake off as you will not have the reserve to crank up the speed. In order to advise on lenses, i need to know what you will be photographing. Photographing both Foxes and Birdlife. same sort of thing i want to get some decent images of . good luck fella. . Hello Hjckcff, first of all my p

  11. to be more carefull with my money and get a bit in the bank for a change. fed up og being in the red.
  12. i would love a good lens that is aroond 300mm but am on a tight budget so have to make do with crappy lenses at the moment. but maybe one day.
  13. hope it all works out for men and dog. have a good new year folks
  14. i only ever keep one runner. but keep a couple of terriers so if the runner is off then i can keep myself busy with the little uns . i wouldnt be able to find enough time to keep more than one lurcher busy but can work it alongside the terriers do abit of bushing/mooching and the odd nights lamping . i still feel he dont get enough work. as rabbit is a lurchers bread and butter to me and there isnt enough rabbits about to justify another runner
  15. i dont often tie a pup back but ive had my share of screamers cartwheeling and getting all fired up. i have came to the conclusion that these dogs would have been that way no matter how entered. they just wanted in . and if another dog was entered whole hell was let loose. best left boxed untill ready to enter them. some terriers just have a steady quiet nature untill needed. i rarely owned one . smart pup that good luck with it
  16. we just used what we had and made do. we didnt chap every dog that had one bad day at the office ffs. we would have got rid of a lakie that we dug to regular then all of a sudden started coming up top. usually with one or two nips we considered doing the worst but we used a second dog to find a dead fox. turned out he had got a knack of finnishing em. and was very handy to have. i also seen a dog work that stayed till dug but would jump back on the break through if its owner was digging but would fasten on most times if someone else was on the spade. was the owner to harsh to break the dog of
  17. great offer. hope he gets a fair crack of the whip. bad time to put a dog to a new home. hopefully lands on his feet. nice strong terrier.
  18. same to you and yours uru. and everyone else.merry christmas
  19. GOOD START you wont get run over in that tee shirt.
  20. the wire fox terrier/smooth fox terrier/ parson russell/ and now the jack russell. all from the same original breed. the dogs we had in the seventies would have fit that standard . before the white lakie and parsons started to sweep the boards. ah well i will follow with interest the breeding of the foundation stock.
  21. cant agree with the above. ive kept both russells and plummers.for decades and to be honest. they are different dogs altogether. none of my russells noses are as sharp as my plummers. barr my cross dog who has inherited this trait. my plummers are noticably better ratters they seem to have a second sense and are generally first to find and in most cases first to catch. they are more biddable also. my russells where better than most of my plummers to ground. but that is to be expected as they are very well bred worker to worker. and i am not praising my plummers up just stating my expe
  22. i thought so . throws a nice sort. i got her as i liked the look of Ivy . she was a very nice sort indeed.
  23. the spots only show when stripped or sheered. some of these pics are dated now as she was borrowed off me by my son. Bree there she is flacko. best temprement and coat ive had on a terrier
  24. DC,all the pups will see work of different sorts,as said these are all rounders, not digging dogs, those that want out and out digging dogs will not want a Plummer, those that source these dogs normally do a bit of everything, when I was a younger man and dug most days I kept fells and patts, etc,we keep the tools we require for the job,as regards breeding then, my pups are always born in my house ,if its summertime then they will be moved outside at 4 weeks, but wintertime, they will never see the outside until they go to their new homes,I am no better than the next man, brought up on a council estat
