He had us all enthralled as youngsters with his tales, but the vast majority were just that….tales ! There was a very similar guy in New Zealand called Barry Crump, he wrote great books about hunting , his book called “A Good Keen Man” about Government deer, pig and goat cullers is an excellent read. The Crocodile Dundee character was based on him. When I mentioned him to pig hunting lads in NZ they all laughed and said all his experience was gained in a pub talking to real hunters, but he was a good bloke. That reminded me of when Plummer came up here and met lads in my local pub on the pretext of buying some game fowl and Jack Russells; it became evident that he was just after material for a book and was laughed out of the pub after about 10 minutes.
