Imo no. He’s so far failed to bring either the whole of Ukraine or the border region under Russian control. The north eastern border with Russia remains Ukrainian. So far he’s got the separatist regions and a land bridge to Crimea. He may have deterred Ukraine from becoming part of nato, may not, it’s not clear yet. What is clear is that Ukraine is now an enemy of Russia, capable of winning, and supported by the West. Even if they’re not NATO they’ll be a NATO trained and armed ally, motivated, experienced and confident in facing Russia.

His actions have also led to the Nordic buffer states reconsidering their impartiality. His actions stand to considerably increase NATOs power and proximity to Russia.

He’s also shown NATO the true capability of Russian forces which in future standoffs will weaken the Russian position to bluff. NATO weapons and tactics will already be being tweaked based on what had been learnt so far.

Russia can’t take Ukraine, that much is clear. Ukraine has a nuclear power industry and so nuclear expertise…

Surely it was Russia that pulled out of the Minsk Agreement when the Russian Duma voted to recognise Luhansk and Donetsk as independent republics and Putin stated "the Minsk Agreement no longer exists" ?

why do you think in katchum post from the man on the ground he says russian spy’s are everywhere ? id say most likely because  plenty of ukrainians are pro russia

Any real force ? They are conscripts ,using dated gear ,let's line up a 40 km column of vehicles???? Don't sound like a great strategy, and I've never even play call of duty ,let alone been on the front line ,Russia and its military, are in the dark ages ,there for the taking ,if socks and katchum weren't busy with grandkids and milking ,they'd sort it

It has demonstrated that the notion of Russia being the super power that was used to support excessive American military spending was a lie. Something that some of us suspected all along. When the best thing they could sell us were Lada cars and Zenit cameras how come they were supposed to be technologically superior to the West in weapons?

Putin has bust his own show. They might have beaten the Germans in WW2. But back then the whole country was mobilised. This time round even the Russian Army aren't up for it. And those that are are ill trained and ill equipped. Their tanks are useless in this type of combat and if another ship goes down they can't blame another 'accident'.

Have you ever thought that Russia hasn't got the up to date, state of the art military infrastructure that the west has, because the politicians and oligarchs have raped Russia of its money and resources ?

Have you ever thought that the west has consistently and deliberately overestimated the Russian military capability simply to justify their own military expenditure ? 

Russias navy is mainly archaic, the last time it's coal fired aircraft carrier sailed through the channel it broke down and had to be towed home !

Hardly the blue water force the west, (US and Uk) has at its disposal.

I think Putin has made some grave miscalculations, he thought Ukraine would fold in days, he didn't see the severity of the sanctions, he didn't see the west overtly supplying Ukraine with modern weapons, and, most seriously of all, he grossly overestimated the ability of his own military.

Just my opinions, of course. I'm no geo political expert

Still, whatever potential dealings between the Ukraine and NATO look to have been squashed before they even got started.

Putin may have to forget about a total invasion but he will likely accept a deal where he keeps parts of the east along with Ukraine neutrality. 

that’s what he wanted at the start wasn’t it water back on for the seperatists no more bombing then and no nato membership
