Remember when everyone on here was absolutely certain Labour were headed for extinction in the next General Election?

Good times

It's certainly is good times the scruffy fecked Corbin came 2nd.

If Corbin tripped over in front of you.

Before he could say anything.

You would be balls deep in his bumolio.

Diane (brains of Britain) Abbot reckon it will be a draw 60% labour 60% Conservatives :)

I've never been a great cynic, but sweet Christ, a staunch remainer (May) has a workable majority, has the backing to push ahead with brexit, calls a snap election, which she said she wouldn't and pro

Labour threw everything they could at this and still fell well short ...they just didn't measure up mate admit it even against May who didn't even bother trying ....I really can't see any victory in that ...that's the bottom line bud

Our proudly socialist manifesto got 40% of the vote, the best result since Blair in 2001, gained over 3,000,000 votes (coming within 2.5% of the Tories) and 29 seats and the Tories have gone from holding a comfortable majority to being in utter chaos scrabbling for votes from the DUP and most likely heading into a leadership contest.

If you don't think that's an amazing achievement and a cracking platform to build on then you're just a bit deluded. It's all about the long game pal, I've said that from the start ;)

The way I see it, they are celebrating gains & also the biggest % of votes for over 40years? I may be wrong on those years, bgb can correct me....

....this all considering it was suppose to be a Tory landslide & you're surprised they are positive about it??

Labour wouldn't of been my vote, but it would have to be sour grapes not to accept corbyn achieved what most thought impossible?

What bgb said haha...

Would you put money on it though? After all, this was suppose to be their low water mark....haha

I'd have to see how these brexit negotiations panned out before I ruled out Labour in future........I was way out on this result!

A lot can happen in 5 years. In theory there will be a 3 year period after Brexit negotiations have finished, so time for the dust to settle....

....but who knows who will be leading both parties at that point, highly probable both will change.......& will labour keep chipping away? That's assuming there is not another election in the mean time?

Very interesting times ahead, that's for sure.....;-) I really can't see it being plain sailing for the Tories from this point onwards, which is opposite to my thoughts a few weeks ago! Haha....

May went into this election as supposedly the most popular PM of all time but she gambled and lost a comfortable majority locked in for the next 3 years for a seriously unstable minority government thanks to a cracking campaign by Corbyn and Labour. This idea that she suddenly became incompetent when the election was called is just silly, it's not a coincidence everyone ends up looking incompetent when they campaign against Corbyn ;)

Do you think Corbyn can see this through to another election?

You mean as leader? Definitely. The right of the Labour party have been completely crushed, one of the best bits of this election has been seeing them all crawling out of the woodwork to say they were wrong about Corbyn

Chukka Umunna who was the next great Blairite hope as a leadership challenger has even said there is no question around his leadership now. There's no appetite for any challenge and even if there was he'd most likely be reelected again with a bigger mandate.

Already, I'm sick and tired of listening to politicians clutching at straws and trying to spin victory from defeat !

We're drifting into a historic period of history, essentially leaderless and with no firm direction. The governing party performs so poorly that it has to be propped up by a small fringe group from Northern Ireland, with Her Majesty's opposition can't even match that low standard !

No-one won, but I can't help thinking that we have all lost ! Lost an opportunity, lost direction and lost any hope of a beneficial Brexit.

Labour are overjoyed to have come second, while the Tories have a humiliating victory.
