Run, Hide, Tell. Sends shivers of shame down my spine. That's not what being British means to me.

Surely that advice was aimed at women and children , I am not a macho ,key board warrior type of fella ,I like a peaceful existence without going looking for aggro as much as the next man ,but I WILL NOT run and hide ,not now ,not ever .

So, as in the case of the Paris attacks, you were sitting outside a restaurant & it was sprayed with bullets by terrorists, you wouldn't duck for cover & attempt to call authorities? You would just stand your ground?

i herd a story the other day from a friend he knows a man ex soldier american some years ago he owned a bar hotel in cairo he was behind the front desk and a chap came in whiped a pistol out infront of him , quick thinking he said the safty is on the gunman looked down he snatched the pistol from him and shot him ,not sure many would get away with that maybe the quick thinking and military training saved him from being killed .not sure the average joe would have got away with that maybe it was a one off but it worked and saved his life .

Similar cctv clip on youtube from a armed robbery in the US. The young lad behind the till clearly unfazed and had a "zero fucks" attitude with the fella pointing a gun at his head. He was widely praised for his cool attitude but to those with a bit of gun knowledge it was clear that the robber's gun had malfunctioned with the slide jammed open.

In any situation like that where you're life is in danger who knows how you would react!

Its built into our psyche to survive. I would like to think if i saw an opportunity to react i would take it but until you are actually in that situation who the f**k knows what you would or wouldnt do. Anything else is just speculation.

I'm really warming to the idea of armed beat bobbies. If the community officers in borough market had of been proper police with hand guns, it could been over in 2mins instead of 8?

im not convinced that is a good idea , on the basis that not many have the training to use them they may have spent a few hrs shooting paper targets thats about all my view is a unit of specialized military or ex military personell that have seen and been trained in those type of scinarios .

It's not something I would of been particularly favour of in the past, but I suppose I've got so accustomed to it living here, that it just doesn't seem such a big deal anymore.

Training is the key & I very much doubt our police force is going to undergo a massive overhaul with specialist firearms training for all, but maybe concentrate on getting more specialist firearms police enrolled, trained & out on the beat in major cities?

There was an ex copper on the radio a little while back who thought it was time to arm our police, when the presenter said that most police don't want to be armed, he said the police that are not prepared to carry a gun may not be the right sort of police we need keep order and security in this country.

In other words new recruits would have no choice, so take the job or find another career if you won't carry a gun.

I've got no military experience, but I like to think I would put up a fight, if I was close enough.

Not sure if I could match Gerard Vowles, though.......tip your hat and give this man a medal, I say ! (He doesn't look like a Gerard, does he ?)

What would your advice be to men/women/families caught up in a marauding terrorist attack facing knives, guns or perhaps explosives?

O.K. If we want to play the pedantry game, being advised to run, hide and tell really grates and is not what I was brought up to believe in. It's like saying this is how it's going to be, get used to it.

Like I've said, I don't think it's a motto, just advice to get out of the way in these circumstances & tell authorities as soon as possible so they can be taken out within minutes.

But if you would rather deal with armed terrorists yourself, that fine by me.....;-)
