I would imagine there would've been a lot more child molesting going on in the past when few people would've believed a child over an adult, there were no social services, and print media was rarer ie no TV or internet to make people as aware of the problem.

The attitudes of the police have changed they now take alleged cases of rape & sexual abuse of children & vulnerable people seriously, so victims of these crimes are more inclined to come forwards & report stuff, even things that happened 20.30 + yrs ago

 

Your modern day dirty b*****d grooms on webcam & then blackmails the victim with the recorded footage , or even worse meets the child off line , there is a bloke lives over the road from me who was done for offences online & got a 2 year prison sentence , its hardly a deterrent is it ... 2 years inside , being fed & watered every day & come out with a shit load of qualifications .

We aren't much different to other western countries i think, maybe apart from Catholic church seemingly getting away with it we are now better at prosecuting.

Was said before in the thread, the media decides what makes a story and this is a huge one along with Eric Bristow comments stoking it up in the quiet days after it first broke to keep it at the top, the media personality one the BBC didn't make such a fuss over it as the other main stream media funnily enough, seems the msm can't get enough of historic cases of this type yet made as little fuss as possible over the child grooming cases by asian gangs which is current even bringing out updates on it on a day they were all over something else to bury it.

It's rampant in all Countries and a lot of cultures but it seems them that's in power are the worst offenders.
