Few reasons socks Well this is just my opinion,   First point some lads are just not cut out for that. I'm sure we all know the type I mean. It would prob drive them to suicide   Second I d

NO!

Bring it back teach them some respect

ex sapper myself served a number of yrs, looking at todays dregs out on the streets with there cider, made up weird language they seem to speak i wouldnt want them alongside me.i want people that want to stand by your side alongside myself, squaddies looking after each other.

Putting a 17 year auld piss head or junkie on ranges.

Or asking someone to supervise the clowns.

Just spells disaster to me.

I've supervised plenty of piss heads and junkies in regular forces. One developed mental psychosis and we ended up putting him in the Priory at HMs expense.

To me it's the choice thing.

Some lad who sticks in through all his schooling cause he is determined to be a surgeon, computer designer , or open his own window cleaning business!

Why should he " waste" x amount of months , years whatever it is. In something he has no wish to be in.

Just holding the lad back.

How long would it be before the politicians and the über rich , got thier own kids out of it. With some pushed through bullshit legislation.

Never happen anyway political suicide for any party who had that in thier manifesto .

It was always like that anyways.

Uni kids and rich never done national service.

95% of Sandhurst entrants are graduates. Junior officers (2Lt - Capt) are proportionally overly represented in the casualty statistics of all modern conflicts.

Do you lot think every kid needs to learn respect then? Your all talking as if you was never young lol. I would say even at the age of 23 for some reason the kids seem to have got worse. Alot more knife n gun crime now compare to my school days. But surely not all kids know so little about respect as the way you lot seem to carry on. Having respect and morals taught is the job of the parents surely? That'll be your generation that are the parents.

Yes it is the job of the parents but so many powers taken away from us. There is no discipline in society anymore and that's the problem. Schools no discipline, you can say this you cant say that, to many bloody do gooders. I had a very strict upbringing (maybe two strict) but i learnt to respect my elders and treat others as i would like them to treat me.Same at school if you got to gobby they brought you down a peg or 2 never did me any harm actually done me good as i was on the road to being out of control.

Il give you a little example my 16 year old daughter came home pissed a couple of years ago (i aint got a problem with that) if she plays by the rules etc, anyway she got gobby, in my face calling me a c**t etc so i gave her a quick slap round the cheek nothing major just a reality check,in 1 hour i had 2 coppers at the door lecturing me on what i can and cant do etc etc etc. Beating wrong, cruelty wrong, but there's feck all wrong with discipline. There is none in this country anymore,no deterrent at any level of society and that is one of the reasons the country is f****d!!

There are more than there should be. CDT gets rid of plenty every year, but there are many that get through undetected. What us it they say about LS & GC '15 years of undetected crime'?

Iv never known anyone to get kicked out for smoking crack or heroine.

You need to have really bad luck to get caught on a CDT.

If it was me I'd go hide in my grot or some were till they f****d off.

Bloody hell I'd be homeless if I'd called the old bill on my parents for a telling off.remember saying to my mum if you hit me ill just phone social services. She used to pick up the phone and say " tell ya what ill call for ya shall I?".

My parents wasnt too strict to be honest but we grew up knowing right from wrong. Some may benefit from national service, but I wouldn't force people. I don't see why people join the army though. Fighting wars that we have no reason to be in? Risk your life and limbs for crap wages. If you come back with no legs you get a pat on the back n called a hero. Mean while the politicans who are the lowest of the low are earning how much and they aren't sending their kids. Is plenty of other ways to bring out the best in people and finding them a career in something they love would be better i think.

No.

You will end up with army that doesn't want too be there and are weak and a waste of money resources and space.

Fully agree..

Whilst it pains some folk to think of lazy, no good for nothing feckers, having an easy time,..cashing in off the State and generaly seeming to live, a life of ease,...and the easy solution would appear to be ,"Get em into the Army, knock some fecking sence into em".,.kinda thing..

In reality (in peace time)...it would be a complete and utter waste of fecking time..

I well remember in my youth,...loads of us going along to the Army recruitment centre, and looking at all the jobs that were on offer. For some of my mates it was a chance of a carreer,..and a way out of the housing estate..

But for me,..even though I did join the Army Cadets (and enjoyed it) the call of the wild,.. was just too much..

What I am trying to say is,..the modern day army needs specialists,..it don't need cannon fodder or recalcutrant youths with mental problems and discipline issues...

It needs fit and willing young men,.. who WANT to be something special.... :victory:

well put

Its lucky we don't all think like you then fella otherwise we wouldn't have an army that allows people like you to walk around free ..........

National service doesn't have to be with the forces leave that to the people who choose to join

There is no one better for a job than some one who wants to do it

National service could be anything that simply serves the nation

Hospital work

Street cleaning

Gardening for old folk

Clearing canals

Checking wagons on the borders

The list is endless

No to national service, the Army is still something to be proud of and so are the vast majority of people coming through the door to join every week. Why spoil that with dross?

It's not like bad boys army no more.
The recruits have more rights than NCOs now.
As recruits you can complain about section commanders and give them cards.
You get duvets in training ffs.

Recruits certainly dont have more rights than NCOs

The cards are a myth, if they ever existed then it was a short lived experiment years ago.

Not being funny but whats that got to do with anything?

There has always been scum, and if all the figures are to be believed then violent crime ect is trending downwards. No such thing as the good old days and lads and lasses still join up for the chance of a ruck somewhere around the world.

Some interesting things ive noticed, more asian and black lads, untill very recently I had never seen an asian lad, but starting to see more and more.

People have always failed fitness tests, recruits defiantly have the physical aspect of there training easier but this is supposedly to reduce the chance of injury building up as they move through there training, the jury is out for me on this but you cant blame the youth of today for that.

I think that people are the same now as there were in the 1900s 1800s and the 40s. Always been scum and there always will but when push comes to shove the average Brit would stand up and do their bit.
