gnasher16 31,499
the fifteen and sixteen year olds of the fifties and sixties were men at that age, where as a lot of the youngsters now are dependent on parents till there fortys, life is either to easy or there lazy, national service just wouldnt work now, they should be put to work though. I think there was just a different kind of hunger of youngsters then compared to now.....parents of kids then were still getting over war years meaning youngsters couldnt just sit back and rely on mummy and daddy as they have more than likely spent their entire youth watching them struggle..............its a double edged sword,no youngster should be cold or hungry in this day and age......but with that comfort comes a certain amount of lack of desire to get out and achieve.
abarrett 462
Why not you can't expect someone to give you money for nothing Where else does that happen It doesn't that money is tax payers money and I for one don't think it should be given away When I get a tax bill to pay I feel it along with the bill comes a letter saying pay this or you can get fined or jail I have earned that money only for it to be given away for no return I'm sorry but in my view You don't get if you don't give it gets stolen every day by politicians, not to mention banks. big buisnesses con the state out of billions. nah you refuse jobs persistantly then yea ok, force them back into work. but to make folk without a job or off sick. Thats not right. better hope u dont fall on hard times mate. You will picking dog shit bags out of trees with shoplifters, smackheads and burglars lol I have done worse jobs I can hand on heart say there are very few jobs that don't involve gay acts or religion that I won't do Now dog shite up trees you might be on to winner there I bet the local councils will pay to get that done And long live the junkies we get £40 for every needle they chuck on a street or in a garden Sharps are the new wasp nests but all year round lol
tandors 888
so the general consensus on here is no because the countries not worth it and the youth are too street wise? surely if they are eased into it via compulsory cadets or whatever from a younger age they cpuld be made to accept and enjoy some form of national service not neccesarily military training. i beleive they do it in switzerland and they get to keep their weapons after. it would make people proud and more bound to their fellow countryman in my opinion. everything is backwards we are in the neo weimar republic and it cant last forever. WILF 50,203
No, socks no one should have to tell you that in the modern world conscript army's are inferior to volunteer army's.......it's a no brainer.
antg 1,816
they wont even go to school never mind the forces . would be a good thing if something was done to encourage the youngsters of today to make something of their lives but i thinks that wishful thinking and the way this country is being sent down the drain , things will only get worse for young people
socks 32,253
No, socks no one should have to tell you that in the modern world conscript army's are inferior to volunteer army's.......it's a no brainer. I wasn't necessarily talking about a conflict scenario more for some self respect moral fibre and a chance to make something of themselves ......
General lee 979
I haven't read the whole thread so this has probably been said already and my apologies if it has but I think instead of person sentences for petty crimes army service would suit better build some character instead of educating young criminals
pesky1972 5,639
No. Certainly not military service for all..., maybe some sort of other compulsory service to the nation for everyone leaving school. I'd guess that most people that would like to see national service return think it might benefit most those kids destined to sign on for the rest of their natural. I think that some form of compulsory work/service could be a good thing, but would need to be done fairly and not as a punishment for kids not settled on a career yet. I think that there is a critical period in the lives of some kids when they've just left school (some of whom lost interest in school years ago) with no qualification & no direction. If you don't get them into 'work' and functioning in an adult environment within that first year or so they will find it harder and harder to get started, and lose all self belief that they are the right material for working. They'll be much more likely just to adapt to a life on benefits supplemented by the odd bit of petty crime. Seen it happen to a few mates when I was younger..., and to some of their kids now. Such an unnecessary f**king waste of a life
