  1. Eddie, my brother was one hell of a drinker and loved the Whisky. However , he told the myself the Poitin was in a somewhat different league. Hope I'm correct with the spelling of the drink in question. "Perhaps you can can enlighten myself with you being from Ireland"?Is the drink you mentioned made with potatoes, sorry I don't know a great deal about this drink to be honest?
  2. I used to sell a lot of the stuff and a few years ago I had a visit off two Norwegian dogmen so I thought I'd give them a taste of Irish hospitality. At the time I was well used to Poitin so I got out a bottle and poured 3 large glasses. I took a sip and let out the usual "oh yeh" after a mouthful. One of the Norwegians drank the lot of the head and calmly said "Is nice ya, can I have some more please ?" We drank two bottles and I cant remember much but I do know that the Norwegians walked out of my house in a straight line. The one who drank it off the head even looked like a viking. I co
  3. When we were young lads we supported an hairstyle that resembled an overgrown (Magpies) nest. Many other people referred to us as the Hairbear bunch, from the famous cartoon of the 3 bears in the (1970s) childrens television. At the time we had carrot coloured hair, until later in the coming years we decided it a good idea to start to get an haircut and start dressing more appropriately. "As the years passed by our hair started to change to a more lighter tone and we had cleaned up our act and certain erratic behaviour. However, while friends were chasing girls and drinking we thought it mor
  4. Excellent anecdote Neil. Always interesting to read...
  5. Hello King, I managed to buy a good pr of Bausch and Lomb Navy WW2 Binoculars off a friend some years ago now. Foolishly I sold them to a guy, 'I don't know why", but I did. If my memory serves me correctly I only paid approx £45.00 pounds for them. However, it was many years ago so they perhaps were deemed expensive at the time. The glass was brilliant and that's the regret I have. I'm thinking of starting to collect certain pairs, so who knows what will happen? The Swarovski Habitcht you mentioned. They are a porro prism Binocular unlike the more sought after roof prism Binoculars. But ple
  6. My favourite is without any doubt a good Malt Whisky, but not nowadays. Do I miss it , yes very much. But the dogs come come before anything, even a woman, we have no children. So our main interests in life is the dogs. They have served myself well for approx 50 years, and they waited for my brother when after 17 operations and only 2 hours to live, they awaited his return from Hospital. My brothers team of nurses, doctors and both his professors let myself take my brothers dogs into the hospital ward. "My brother cried a thousand tears when he was reunited with his most lovable tykes. My bro
  7. I drink a LOT of water... but whilst camping in paradise valley in Morocco we found a natural spring... the taste of the water was unbelievable... it was like drinking some kind of tonic, its hard to explainI'm in heaven when we go to Portugal for our jollies each year. We go north, near the Caremulo, all mountains.Where the village water supply flows direct out of the rocks, to be collected from the little fountain they have and each and every villager produces their own wine, port and potato spirt. A village where they try to get your approval of their wine by supplying it to you by the fla
  8. Hello to all readers, Hoping everyone is okay and life treats everyone just fine. I don't know if this subject has been touched upon, but I'd be very interested to hear from members what their favourite tipple is or drink. My particular interest would be on the wonderful subject of one our most popular drinks, namely (Whisky). It would be good to hear from our Scottish Whisky drinking friends about their thoughts on the favourite subject of Whisky in particular. Also my regards to my trusty Irish friends...
  9. A great many thanks Bell...
  10. Ever since I can remember I have always had a pair of Binoculars. At first my brother and myself really had to make do with just a really cheap pair of Binoculars. Mother and Father at the time couldn't afford really expensive Bins at the time, plus there wasn't really a lot to choose from in those days of the 1970s. One Christmas we proudly found ourselves supporting both a pair of very cheap and nasty pair of Bins made by Commodore.Of course at that particular period we thought they were great and we took them everywhere within our quest to further our knowledge of bird identification. As th
  11. It was with great sadness to hear of Keith Emerson's untimely death. A great keyboard player and a pioneer and great innovator of some wonderful music.
  12. Hello Greyman, Like many of our readers have already stated, it sounds very much like a Gos, especially if you are finding Wood Pigeon kills in the vicinity. Keep a watchful eye as they are very elusive and secretive in their habits? What type of woods are there in your area? Also how large are the woodlands? If you early on a nice sunny morning but also at other times of the day, you may find yourself lucky in seeing a pair of Goshawks displaying above the woodland in question. Goshawks need large tracts of woodland unlike their smaller cousin, the Sparrowhawk. In areas of nesting you will u
  13. Just downloaded the piano track will give a listen tonight. TC When the first track started playing, I was instantly reminded of Erik Satie's Gymnopédie No.1 As it progressed I though I could hear an Einaudi style hypnotic repeat rhythms and melodies take a front seat. It was well worth a listen and I will again soon. Piano and guitar are my favourite two instruments, so I am a bit biased there. TC Tiercel, I had an old friend called (Jack Stone), born in 1923. He was from the old school and a great poacher. My brother and myself spent many an happy hour liste
  14. Hollands Hope. I bet you have heard of the Dutch band, the (Nits). They were successful with their record In the Dutch Mountains, plus I like another track called Cars and Cars by the same band. They are very underrated but have a large following in the Netherlands.Have you heard of another Dutch band called aa and the Doctors? Peter Walthrect is the Drummer and he's a friend of mine. I have many happy memories of my brother and myself spent together teaching the Dutch about terriers. It is so beautiful, Holland is.

  18. It is rather interesting to hear from people with their somewhat different taste in music. Just recently I have found the time to relax and to start to think deep once again by listening to certain Artists and their music. Tiercel, Have you listened to any of Yann Tiersens music? Really like his stuff that he produces. I have enclosed certain tracks for your listening pleasure. Hope you like it. 19. Wonderful, excellent what more can I say? Much more, but some other time. Thank you Tiercel for your wonderful taste in music.
  20. Hello Tiercel, Regarding music we definitely sing from the same Hymn sheet. If you get the time please send myself the particular classical music you like. For myself I find the German composers of particular interest but like many others also. Sometimes due to my Melancholy personality I have to listen to certain music to bring an uplift in my ever changing moods. However, I do like many rock bands also.
  21. Just thought I'd ask all members what particular Music do you like and why?
