  1. Hello to everyone, Hoping life is treating everyone just fine. I need advice please, after careful thought I considered posting certain photos. However, it keeps stating that the files are too big to upload. Any ideas please my friends?Plus what do I do in order to advertise on site. I don't want to go around the mods backs. I have certain books and Iwas considering doing a little quiz, just for a little fun.If person could write an article about their favourite type bird and why. The winner would then win a book about Finches by The well known Author Ian Newton
  2. Hello to all readers, Very sorry to the guys who suffer with insomnia. I myself have suffered also with the same sleeping issues. I have been up for 2 days at a time and still wide awake. It didn't help as I was also diagnosed with clinical depression, plus post traumatic stress chucked in for good measures. Many years ago something changed my world for ever and I was there staring death in the face. Then they put myself into an induced coma. I survived by a miracle and thank (God) for the chance to get another throw at the dice. I am on (Zolpidem) , very addicti
  3. Hello Bell, My offer still remains if anyone want's to see the (Nightjars) this coming season. Any genuine people can send myself a message if they would like to see this beautiful bird. A friend who we knew from our childhood days came in Nottinghamshire last year, he lives in Scotland. Also to any of the Scottish guys on this forum, do any of you know a place in Scotland called Loch Etive? I spent some wonderful times there after foxes approx 30 years ago now.
  4. Paulus, The photos are a credit to you, very good.
  5. Tiercel, I would be really interested to know what books you read regarding the subject of birds, then I could share a little bit of my knowledge in what I find interesting also
  6. Hello tiercel, you would be correct in what you said and you will understand unlike some people who don't have the knowledge about birds, that for example people don't realise that many Blackbirds or Robins arrive here in winter from other European countries. It doesn't just apply to summer visitors.Do some Chiffchaffs winter here also? Going by your alias or pen name, do you like the Peregrines? Just being somewhat interested.
  7. Hello Bell, Good morning to you .It is great to read, listen and to share and even learn from others who love the (wildlife) game. I think the true people that hunt, shoot, fish and work all type of dogs are better qualified in country matters than any animal- rights activists or so -called animal lover. Ever since I can remember I have been at loggerheads with the (antis). The hunting folk have an insatiable appetite for all country matters, and their thirst for knowledge far exceed any animal -rights type people who are totally ignorant to country life. We are in the eyes of such people sadi
  8. To all the above readers.I suffer terrible insomnia and I find it difficult to shut down and relax. That is perhaps my lame excuse for being on a computer at such an early hour. Hope I can eventually have a few hours. Thank you if anyone is listening.
  9. Through trial and error and by using many different types of food, in my experience I have found the (Niger) seed the best in order especially in attracting (Goldfinches) into your garden. However, someone mentioned sunflower hearts which are also very good food for Goldies.I have found that the Niger seed is somewhat better as to the regards of attraction techniques. But it would be rather difficult to ascertain which is the best in keeping birds coming to the feeders. As readers will be aware, a different feeder is needed for the Niger seed due to its minute size. Sunflower seeds or (Kernals
  10. An excellent informative and well put together article. A must for all bird lovers and enthusiasts. (Very good and so interesting)! People have told myself about the wikipedia site which I have started to read about all sorts of information. However, picking up a good book is hard to beat, it is something so different I think. But also there is no substitute for experience.....

  12. Acci74, We sometimes flew the 2 Muskets together as a cast. They were brothers so sometimes at Blackbirds under license we had some good sport. He accounted for 35 Tree Sparrows when they were so much more common. He took hedge Sparrows also and approx 7 blacks and many other types of birds. At one stage he flew and bind to a little Owl and if I hadn't separated them it could have gone either way. I have many books and some good Falconry titles, plus books from The New Naturalist series and many Poyser books which are always worth a read. I collect books on the working terrier, and books on
  13. Accip74, I haven't read the book is it any good?
  14. Thank you for posting, Nostalgia at its best!
  15. Hello Muttley, Really it hasn't come as any surprise regarding the lack of response from members concerning Sparrow hawks, especially the Muskets. You and many others will be aware at how difficult they are to get going, due to the weight and how delicate they are. Their temperament can be so testing at times but to be honest the more difficult something provides myself with, the more I find satisfaction to produce admirable results. I flew a really good Musket approx 35 years ago now and obtained really good results; and he was a good (Blackbird) hawk. In the end he met
  16. Hello to all the good Falconers, Just a short message of words regarding enquiries about anyone who has flown the Sparrow hawks. I would be extremely interested to hear if any Falconer has had any experience flying the (Muskets), and also if they had any success flying them at quarry. There was a Falconer called John Loft, an old school teacher at Louth in Lincolnshire. He was firm friends with the renowned falconer J.G.Mavrogordato.I have John Lofts 1st edition A Merlin For Me. Plus I have 1st editions of Mavro's A Hawk For A Bush and A Falcon

Please send myself a message if you wish to.Doesn't matter which one of the two you are, your both welcome to a pup and welcome out for a dig whenever you want Thank you Nick, I will try and come through sometime. How are the terriers?
  18. Hello Dyktos, My apologies for the mistake with the paragraphs, but constructive criticism never harmed anyone but just makes people aware of their own improvements. Thank you for the advice. Onto another short note. Have so many happy memories of your part of the world, and I so often made visits to your part of the world with little (Jack).I have a suitcase full of memories of yesteryear in that region. What a wonderful period in one's life.....
  19. I will use the correct paragraphs next time if I decide to post. Very sorry. Also very sorry for the incorrect spelling of would, I incorrectly typed. I can spell but modern computers are not my strong point. I will try to correct. Just another form of Melancholy personality!
  20. Hello Nick, We know you well but you will have to think who I am. Please send myself a message if you wish to.
  21. I will use the correct paragraphs next time if I decide to post. Very sorry.
  22. Mytkos, apologies regarding the paragraphing that would normally be used in any form of writing, but it was just off my head and I'm not at my sharpest at the moment. However, in future I will paragraph the sentences. No problem!
