  1. Fox Dropper, to put it in simplistic terms what is your problem? You really need help if you cannot accept a persons opinions about such a trivial subject on the terrier Books and modern day Authors.Your problem is with this 'Johnny Bluck character to whom I have never met or would wish to do so.I have read with a slight interest ,annoyance and also with added bemusement regarding your often polemic remarks about myself.I do feel quite sorry for you in the mere fact that you perhaps suffer with somekind of self-delusions! Your remarks to myself being too nice; well it is quite easy to turn in
  2. Thank you Zilverhaze, you have realised that I am not the Bluck character. And thank you as it isn't in my nature to be big headed!
  3. Could I first of all thank all the the guys on this particular topic of conversation regarding my first post realising that I am not the character 'Johnny Bluck. Secondly to (Fox Dropper) and I think (Bosnun) , you both are totally off the mark! It was Fox Droppers first comments about my opinions on modern day Authors and the material they write about, that he got somewhat hot under the collar. Regarding my previous opinions about the Authors of today,I will still and always do so say that these Authors of today have done the terrier men a total disservice.' I will not renounce my earlier opi

  5. A great many thanks to Harvey D and also to Neil for providing myself with some of their views on the terrier Books of today. Neil, it would be interesting to hear about your involvement with certain Books and you could always send me a message if you so wish. Harvey, good to know you knew David Grayling and your visit to his Book Shop also. I went on 1occasion to buy certain Bird Books and fox hunting titles. I]He did tell he was moving down into Devon. Also to (Fox Dropper) who for some unknown reason got somewhat hot under the collar about another persons opinion. Of course it would be
  6. For nearly 40 years I have possessed a profound interest and near obsession with Books of all kinds. But my main interests are somewhat directed to 1st editions,Antiquarian and out-of date Sporting titles. These include subjects on fox hunting, Big Game Hunting, Rare Bird Books, Falconry Books and of course Books on the Working terrier. Through my interests in Books I had the fortunate delight and pleasure in meeting several well known Book collectors and also Authors on various differing subjects. One of the big players in the game was a collector turned dealer called 'David Grayling' from a
  7. Hello Gary, just replying to your particular post regarding the Binoculars. Leaving the Range finder Binoculars out of the equation it is always best to buy what you can obviously afford. Go for the best glass there is. The 3 major players have always been Zeiss, Swarovski and Leica no matter what some people will tell you. However, nowadays you do have more choices to choose from and there is a wide range for various budgets. Take into consideration as to the regards of what you will be needing them for, like Bird watching, Hunting or just general observations. Steiner a German company are su
  8. Chris, the Female Spar will take Wood Pigeons like John stated also. The Males, called Muskets obviously due to their much smaller size than the Female can only manage smaller quarry like Tits, Sparrows and larger birds such as Song Thrush and Black birds. However, through study and experience sometimes larger birds are taken. Many years ago a Falconer friend of mine took a cock Pheasant with his Female which one in the wild would never do so; and i've never heard or seen such a recorded happening. Also their prey items are so vast in the wild and the Sparrow Hawk is an incredible taker of all
  9. Just come on the Hunting Life site today and already I am finding some good articles to read. I was wondering whether any of the Hunting guys or terrier men especially of the older generation have any old photos of Bert Gripton with his terriers or of him Hunting with Hounds. I have some good photos of our great friend Bert, who we knew for many years and Hunted and worked terriers with him. I would be willing to pay for suitable photos for my own personal collection.
  10. Big 'Geoff' Layton and Morris Richardson did keep, breed and work the Sealyham X Russells up in the North East of the country. My brother and myself knew them well when my brother was terrier man, Kennel man at the South Durham fox hounds in 1990. Great times! Don't think Geoff has any terriers nowadays but Morris would be a good try. Best regards. Lutra Lutra....
