  1. Being totally ignorant, what shape is an Irish 3D.Jok.
  2. Looks like a waterhen. Jok.
  3. Well that was quick. As expected. Yokel Matt on my case. I'm looking forward to making this and posting some pics. Thanks Matt. Jok.
  4. I've been asked to do a stick for a guys particular birthday. I've sourced a Silver sixpence(joey) and not short of a stick or 2 but could really do with something that would create a nice thumb stick. Any of you guys help me out?? Jok.
  5. Too many immigrants. They need to eat like everyone else so where do they attack first? Carp ponds and rabbits. Get rid. End of problem. Jok.

    Wellies.

I am having a chuckle reading this thread. Bought a lovely pair of Aigle zip up wellies being a man of the country so to speak. Building a new garage and having 8 mets of concrete delivered, you do what you do and wear what you have.. On with the Aigles and bingo, footings in. I complained to the supplier since the Zips didn't work and he ho got a new pair. Now that's buying the right gear. LOL?Jok.
  7. Alternately buy one from me with 2 collars. Jok.
  8. Yet contact Jim Chick on here. Problem solved. Jok.
  9. I"ve one in the shed pal. You can have it with pleasure. Think it's a 25yd and has hazel pegs and castration rings containing the net. Green 4 oz I think. Either postage or courier doesn't matter. I'm in Derbs if it's any help. Jok.
  10. All good wood needs time. Ask anyone involved in furniture of related woodwork. Some of the stuff I've had on the lathe is or was probably decades old. In fact we've just, thanks to Riohog, found out about Bogoak. Now this stuff is up to 5300 years old and still needs kiln drying before you can work it. Now I know that's in the extreme but it does highlight the need for ageing. I think that hazel at 2 years is right on the button and don't imagine for 1 minute that it will bend. Go for it. Just remembered a video of a guy turning a 3 ft bowl out of green oak and that was ok. End of day you can
  11. I think you take this too lightly.LOL There is a dark threat here and I think you should all be ready for the invasion. HAHA? Fck me wrong channel. Sorry guys thought I was in the countryside..
  12. If you are asking me, which I think you are, 2 years is cool. Thing is, then you've to work out the straightening which means another year. The things you can get up to just getting them straight is mind boggling. Being totally honest, I think them days are gone. Reason being we are not doing it for show or to impress, rather to fulfill our own requirements. The holly I have has to be at least 10 yrs possibly double that and it looks fantastic. When I started on it, the only work was to debarked and generally shape. That ended up as a kind of hexagon. Then forget for a number of years. Well. T
  13. Seemed to have been in most of the Als but not Algeria., I probably shouldn't go into them sort of diets LOL.
  14. Well. You've certainly got your foot under the door. Lovely to get new input and a pleasure to read. Nice one. Jok.
  15. Should have said. Today, managed to get a Joey. Now I've been asked to make a stick and I thought something different was in order. So.! Roe antler with thumb stick proportions and the Joey in the cut end. I reckon it'll look lovely. (Silver Sixpence). I hope Griff is reading this cause it'll be another steal. LOL. Jok
  16. Think they called them a knobler in the past for good reason. Blackthorn is hard and heavy and to my opinion makes a lovely one piece stick. When you do the knob it tends to have a nice orange colour. Polishes great. Only thing is it needs a long time to dry. Jok.
  17. Sussex. Are you suggesting they ran down down the beam in an enclosed area or ran down the beam elsewhere LOL. Perhaps they are a protective sort of creature mom. Actually wouldn't mind seeing one running at me, obviously with a camera in my hand. Jok.
  18. Anyone local with a wood lathe would help you out. I made mine from a nice off cut of elm and bored one end to take a 1/2" bolt with the head cut off. Sealed and varnished, nice. Only about 8" long and does the job. Jok.
  19. Out of Curiousity where do you get the harrissa and hanout powders? Also thinking about a seafood version of the same dish. Jok.
  20. Having lived in Northampton for a long while I should have known that. This TC. Jok.
  21. That looks absolutely wonderful. Just so happens I've got the next 6 brace to do and ordinarily that would get chucked.( simply because I can't physically handle the amount of birds given me. ) I think that's going to be on the table Saturday teatime. Thanks for that pal. Jok.
  22. Should have added. How many people do you reckon have a cobblers heel as in the pic? Jok.
  23. I took this post down the local and low and behold, 3 local guys have the same bits of kit. One particular guy is going to follow your advice as he works in a local metal shop. His son particularly liked the forge as indeed he has just made one but used a hair drier. He's making some great stuff. If I can, I'll go down to the unit and get some pics. He loved the Wolfspaw and went out to his car returning with an original opined to show the lads. You could not write this pal. It was brilliant the ideas that were whanging round. Beer helped. Anyway, if anything becomes of the blacksmiths vices
