  1. Don't get me started on Alzeimer's.
  2. Don't get me started on Alzheimer's.
  3. Not sure if dementia rears it's ugly head and takes a grip through heading a ball. And don't get me started on Alzheimer's.
  4. My brother in-law served his time as a shipwright in the yards, at the when time the yards were being closed. Played for Gateshead FC semi-pro for most of his playing career. Damned good left side defender, played against Newcastle in few pre-season friendlies and always threatened, to me, that he would take our star players out for the season, including Shearer one time. He did not do that of course, but more than held his own, in the 1st half.
  5. Shearer often says that there was a lad same age as him at Southhampton who was a better striker than him at the time, fine margins, planets not aligned?
  6. Fine margins and all that. So many different factors in play for a kid to progress making his living as a professional footballer. In my far less glamorous world see kids who fail in becoming sparks or plumbers. A lot easier to get back into it once you've experienced a bit of the real world in my world than in football of course, so many of the planets must be aligned for a career in football I would think. One of my brother in-laws was offered an apprenticeship with Blackburn Rovers, knocked it back on his dad's advice as Sunderland FC were interested, both Mackems. He missed out at Su
  7. Nice looking dog. Not a type that I have ever been drawn to but looks well put together and in good nick. Very pleasing on the eye.
  8. I am becoming a bit obsessed with these things. Fascinated by how quickly they grow.
  9. Not exactly what I was expecting to see at St. James' today. Newly promoted Southampton came with a game plan that included getting under our skins. Very surprised that our players allowed that to happen. Have they turned into self entitled prima donna's already? Looked like it until the sending off. Schar of all people, cost no money, couldn't get a game under Bruce, but has since gone on to prove himself a genuine EPL player and held his own in the Champions League. Allowed that Cameron Diaz or whatever her name is to stitch him up like a kipper. Reality check time I think. 3 points though
  10. The Dubliners did a great version. Sinead 0' Conner did just as good. Oro Se do Bheatha Bhaile. Welcome.
  11. Probably the 1st sensible thing that you have ever posted
  12. Trying to correct my comment. Probably not correct. It's complicated and confusing.
  13. In regard to parents or old family members. Big mistake I made: Do not pay money into their bank accounts. When they are sane it gives them some sense of security when going over their "papers". When they loose their minds they get no help until every penny that they have is taken.
  14. On closer inspection these fungi are growing on a tree stump that had been cut at ground level. Illustrates my lack of observation of these days and Arry's expert knowledge.
  15. Land that used to be quite boggy farmland before being developed and built on over last 40 years or so. Not wooded in my lifetime. But Googled it based on your ID and looks like you're spot on. Edible but not that palatable it would seem. Thank you.
  16. Any idea what these are? Must be edible as I gave some to my neighbours a few days ago and they're still out there in their garden full of wind chimes and LED lighting listening to Adele albums. I hope it rains soon.
  17. This what you need. The 1st machine of this type that I used, on hammer drill not breaker, no tool familiarisation training given and a skinny youth weak as water, 1st time it jammed (no clutch) would have broke my arm if it hadn't lifted me of the ground. Happy days
  18. Not sure if we're allowed to say tranny now, think it's LCV.
  19. Put your dog in the boot and he's overjoyed to see you when reach the destination and let him out. Try that with the wife and it's nothing but winge, winge, winge.
  20. I listened to Sinead O'Conner's Remberings recently. Jesus Christ, poor child, more sinned against than a sinner in my opinion. Anyway, a singing coach that she went to told her that you have to sing in your own accent to properly sing a song. Easier said than done I would imagine for someone who had the world at her feet, pop star record company sort of thing. Listening to her voice I get it. Same with lots of traditional Irish or British music. Punk was similar in my opinion. Off on a tangent in Remberings, a very devout person she was, she said God existed before religion, religi
  21. Reading that reminded me of the comedian Brendan Healy: Have you noticed that wherever you go in the world you find a Geordie? Now, don't get me wrong, I love our accent, but if I'm being honest there are times I'd be a bit worried if I heard a Geordie accent; "norse, scalpel... " or "yiz all alreet? This is ye captain speakin, the day wi ganna be flying it aboot 38 thoosand feet... "
  22. Back in day, the day being 1980's is it was not unusual for dog lads to keep odd things in a freezer, some common some not so common. Everyone was skint and anything that could be done to earn a few bob was done. In our "community" a few lads had taught themselves the art of taxidermy by stealing books from the library. Why they did not just join the library and borrow the books I never understood but that was just how things were done. Most dog lads seemed have houses full of stuffed animals back then. Not to my taste but I could appreciate the finer works however some were hilariously b
  23. I did once see a bob cat or lynx that had been caught in Hawick, Scotland. It was in a chest freezer when I saw it. Along with many adders. The adders were caught in the wild then put in bottles alive, transported home, then put in the freezer to kill them. Then sold on to be stuffed. The contorted shapes of those frozen adders bothered me.
