Having read the rest of the replies please let me clarify something. We welcome people on to control bunnies at pretty much any time of the year. They cause a lot of damage for us and anyone courteous enough to come and ask first and anyone willing to spend a day on the nets, sat in a hide or wandering with lamp / nv is fine. What we take exception to are people who dont have the respect to ask first. The fact that damage (even if it's accidental) caused by the dogs running over and breaking the roses at a fragile point in the growing cycle can cost us quite a bit when it comes to lost sto

Ladies and gentlemen, may I introduce the reason lurchermen have a shocking reputation in the farming community. It's not a couple of bunnies, it's potentially damage to stock / crops that you need to make a living. The fact our family has worked it's arse off for 4 generations to buy the land we work on and keep it in decent order doesn't give anyone with a dog the right to trespass.

i know this will probably be met with a bit of hostility on here but what the hell! why do people bother running their dogs on land without permission? i was out foxing a couple of nights ago with a mate on my own land and i saw an amber filtered lamp scanning my neighbours fields a short distance down the lane. I have rights on there as well as (rather obviously) our own land so I took it upon myself to wander down to one of our other fields a little closer to where the offending beam of light came from. once we reached the field i could here scurrying and 3 chaps with lurchers were

as above - you cannot borrow someone elses rifle to go out with, certificate or not even if your authorised on your own FAC for the exact same thing. the two legitimate ways around it are to apply for a certificate yourself and put down for shared use of all his rifles, they will be added to your cert and so long as you return them to his cabinet after use there is no problem with you going out on your own. the other way around it is to apply but have shared storage put on your ticket which would enable you to buy and use your own rifle but store it in his cabinet. if i remember right

Don't insure with anyone other than pet plan. When you do, make sure you are on a lifetime policy as well not an annual one. My missus is a vet nurse and they have issues with every other insurer there is with regards to not paying out for things that should be covered. Direct line are among the worst and they underwrite a lot of the other insurers too. The problem with an annual policy is of you are unlucky enough to get hit with an ongoing condition they simply won't pay out on it in year 2 and beyond, then because it's a pre existing condition, no other insurer will pay out any

yes She wasnt quite as broad across the shoulder as that to be honest so I don't think there was bull in her. If you pinned each of her features to a breed you would say she had a Ridgeback, lab, gt dane and greyhound in her, but realistically that isn't gonna be in the slightest bit likely!

Most of the pictures of her I've got easy access to are similar to these ones! https://www.dropbox.com/s/cg0ke6kwmydrp08/20121120_000320.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/5lk3azmfurfzjq7/IMG00016-20100216-2237.jpg?dl=0 To be fair, she loved a sofa! https://www.dropbox.com/s/ld1aty1047dtodq/IMG00191-20101006-1657.jpg?dl=0

Gents, how common or likely would it be to see Ridgeback introduced into a lurcher line about 13 years ago? The reason I ask is we rescued a Ridgeback at about 6 - 8 months old that was a nervous wreck an a bag of bones just about 13 years ago. Unfortunately we lost her to kidney failure middle of last year and she became the best dog anyone could ask for (after being on the verge of being put down at 5 years old due to a few aggressive outbursts. Luckily, but somewhat reluctantly after she got a good pasting and put on final warning she came good and was an absolute delight to be aroun

gents, I am looking for recommendations for a supplier or manufacturer of galvanised kennel / run panels. ive seen a few online in various places and loads on ebay but from experience i know that what looks to be the same product at roughly the same price can vary wildly in quality when the item arrives. i am looking for one normal and one door panel to make a small run off the back door of the house between the back wall and the outbuildings, and probably looking at either a 1.5 & a 2m panel or 2 x 2m panels (with one having a door). are there any suppliers worth using, or more t

Took another short video of my stripey moron tonight. The lab is 6 and a bit years old now, vocal and still only about 6 months old mentally so they are inseperable most of the time. 3 hours of this every night is starting to wear me down though! https://youtu.be/l9OAsubbWHk

I use the frontline spray, there is a risk with the spot on that you can burn them (i know my spaniel got what looked like a chemical burn when we accidentally used the large dog one on her and she was always fine with the right sized one.) It was a few years ago now so the recipe has more than likely changed. Best thing to do short term is get somethimg in the pen for it to eat and make sure hes got access to fresh water and you cant go too far wrong. For bedding you could use pretty much anything, even an old t shirt or jumper or towel cut into pieces so he can nest up in it.

you could always try running a board through the hedge and stop net either side of the hedge to catch them before the fence. in theory if you run a net either side and a board each end you shouldnt get anything escaping so the ferrets or net should catch pretty much everything. the theory is sound, in practice there are always the odd ones that get away!!!

Chicken coup and run type thing, loads on eBay and enough space for 3 (possibly 4 if they are small ferrets). I've added a couple of hammocks and ledges in my run section to make it sort of double level and my mob are more than happy in there. Essentially buy or build the biggest you have space for but make sure its sturdy enough and secure enough.

If people don't want to see pet lurcher the answer is simple. Crack down on our fellow owners who seem to think nothing of passing on a dog at anything short of 3 years old because it didn't live up to their expectations. Hell, I've got a lab lying on the sofa next to me, fantastic pedigree but unfortunately his elbows are screwed and he had both operated on at 12 months old. He is nearly 7 now and I can't even take him for a 2 or 3 walk because he will limp for 2 or 3 days after. Luckily, through good meal management and a couple of dozen quick blasts on the field each day he has a

A joint is a joint, regardless of the creature. If it was your own knee, pain from the cut itself will cause lameness as will the infection, as will the knock she has undoubtedly taken to it. Keep in good contact with the vet if the area is still looking and feeling infected and give her time to recover from it. You wouldn't be up and running for 5 or 6 weeks after such an injury, don't expect the pooch to do it in a fortnight. Losing the muscle is a by product of non use so gentle walks when the pain is gone and increase workload gradually to train it back up to health rather t

Ours was a fantastic dog. Very loving and affectionate, brilliant with the little one, would walk off the lead to heel without a problem (ironically would roll on its back and not walk if you put a lead on it but not an issue for us as they don't really get walked, we just have then out on the field) She was friendly to other dogs, vocal if someone was at the gate or the door but soon settled once she knew it wasn't 'danger'. Unfortunately we lost her to an extremely aggressive tumour that went massive in the space of days and was under her front leg but attached to the chest wa

If he eats like a horse stop giving him hay!

If it isn't recalling then it isnt capable. I don't want to sound like a cock but recall is just as important (probably more important really) as being able to outstrip a bunny under the lamp. Recall in my opinion is the single most important skill any dog should have whether it's a handbag dog, running dog, gun dog or a draught excluder cross barrel shaped thing you see at game fairs that used to be a healthy dog. Recall is one of two key skills that is going to help keep your dog safe when you are out and IMHO, it is irresponsible to let a dog run out knowing there is a high chan

well my pup just wont grow or come to her name I think she has a screw lose or missing Same litter? Mabel is very selective when it comes to doing what she is told. Problem I'm facing is I refuse to punish / fear train as I don't want that relationship with my dog and at the same time I don't really believe in treat training either because they should be doing the basics regardless so it is a bit of a slog with her sometimes when she won't listen (last night for example she wouldn't come back so I just waited for her then when she finally came back she got taken into the outbuildings and

My spaniel was a sod when it was younger. Always at my heel or under it in the house, would lie / sleep on the back of the sofa behind my head (or curl up between me and the back if the sofa if I was lying down on it myself) and if one of the other dogs beat her in the race to sit next to me she would sit in the opposite side of the room with a face like a pound of tripe and not settle until she was within arms reach!

I'm just switching onto the large breed junior food (royal canin - we get it at cost through the missus work) so hoping that will help put a little bit more weight on her, being very thin coated I think she looks a bit more ribby than she would if she had a lab or spaniel coat.

Just my phone (galaxy s6 with a grubby lens from being in my pocket!)

Looking good rew. https://youtu.be/zs03SZdTWGg Makes mabel look like a pygmy! She is a shave under 21tts at the moment but isn't carrying nearly as much weight.
