  1. More than happy to bring over a 12g if it will help, i'm only in NE Herts so not a million miles away...
  2. I had to cut it short as the lens was fogging over, so it's about 2 hours in there... I have a lens heater on the way so i can stay out longer... It's actually very therapeutic, once everything is set up, it's sitting outdoors watching stars for a few hours, get the stove on and have a brew or two
  3. How do people get started hunting if they don't know anyone or have family history of hunting? I started shooting a few years back with a BSA R10, just targets and HFT, then applied for my SGC and started shooting some clays about 18 months ago, what has become quite apparent is i much prefer and am far better at shooting with a rifle than I am with a shotgun, so figure this year i need to either go back to Air or consider going FAC and CF I don't have land, or permission, and to be honest i'm not sure i have the free time to do having either justice, I work as an EMT for the NHS which do
  4. If i still had an air rifle i'd be over tomorrow as your not far away, think a shotty might be overkill for some rats...
  5. Parked 4x4 at the end of a dead end byway that didn't come back out for hours, i can understand the suspicion of what i assume was a house i drove past on the way up there... Much rather a phone call than a car turning up with a couple of nervous bobbies thinking i've got a firearm and am up to no good...
  6. I was out the other night about 10pm and had a surprise call from the police.... "Hello Mr PaulJC, It's the police here, someone has reported your vehicle being at the end of a byway and we are just making sure it is you? And we have on record that you are an SGC holder and just wondered if you were shooting so we can ignore any further calls relating to noise etc..." As it happens i wasn't shooting, i never have shot outside of a clay ground, i enjoy a bit of time lapse photography which is what i was doing at the time, but i thought the manner with which the police dealt with it was ver
  7. I know this is an old thread but thought i may have some useful input for you, i am a SGC holder with a Hx of Anxiety took a break from meds for a while and am now being treated for anxiety again, my GP is great and supports shooting as a sport and has said that while they have to advise if they have any concerns, that they don't have any so wont be doing so, i guess i'll find out what the FEO thinks when renewal time comes around... Don't look on it as an instant loss of your guns, your mental health is far more important (would you ignore it if it was chest pains...?), i wish you all the b
  8. I paid for mine with a filled out and crossed Postal Order with no problems
  9. It's not the type of the house that is the problem, it is owned by a family member who is anti and after much sitting down and negotiating it was the loft or nothing... I have no choice but to respect their wishes or it is literally a case of moving house
  10. I understand it is not ideal, but if i want to keep living here it is unfortunately the only option that i have...
  11. Thanks everyone for the advice and tips... So i've been thinking that maybe a 3/4 gun cab to be fitted for now, and then 'if' i go FAC (which won't be for a while) i'll add another in place next to it with a built in or separate ammo safe... I will get a couple of VP90 packs to go in the safe just incase condensation becomes an issue, not sure if that will make enough of a difference, there is power in the loft so a heat mat or something similar isn't out of the realms of possibility if condensation does become an issue... Has anyone ever seen/used a GDK cabinet as sold on eBay, t
  12. Yeah he was fine with the loft, it's all boarded out, has lighting, easy access pull down ladder and the cabinet will be just inside the hatch
  13. Well, i'm a happy bunny, just had a call this morning from my FEO to tell me that my certificate has been granted and that he just needs to see and check a cabinet installed now... I've also been contacted by my local rifle club (only been on the waiting list for 18 months... lol) and should be starting probationary there within a few weeks, things are finally falling in to place. Really impressed by Hertfordshire's service and cant fault them at all, Application to 'grant' has taken a couple of days over a months (or would have had security been in place already) So i guess
