  1. Fair does. In that case....great shooting.
  2. Domed for accuracy. Personally I love the sound of the Bisley Pest Control (.22) when shooting shorter distances (the accuracy is not overly effected by different pellet shapes at closer ranges). It's not that they're more effective at dispatching, but I love the sound it makes when it hits a rat's skull. For me, it's the same satisfying *thud* sound, but louder. I'm not sure if that's just a placebo thing though. But for general shooting, domes. I love the Accu-Pell, but am getting great results from RWS at the moment. For my .177 the RWS are getting another 4-5 yards on the same zero
  3. I'd love to try bow hunting. It's a real shame. The challenge of range calculating/estimation in a woods is totally different from an open field. Also from a woods into a field or from a field into a woods is very difficult. For the challenge element and skill involved, I'd love it. No doubt I'd suck at it just as much as I do with a gun. But it'd still be great to try.
  4. Moxy, I didn't know you shot. I thought you spent all your time modding the forum haha. I'm kidding. Good shooting. My only issue is the same as you've already been pulled up on...the stock in the poo. The trick is to have a carrier bag or 2 with you. Well impressed though. Bringing up numbers like that is big. With the fields cut and winter on it's way, the rats will be drawing in on the barns and hay bails. I'm hyped about that. There's a stock of hay bales on one side of the farm I shoot at and every winter the rats migrate there for the warmth. I'm looking to try and hit triple
  5. That's cool. Not the most upsetting news, as I live inland and don't often go out to see. Also, I probably stink of chicken poo, so I doubt I'd be munched by a shark haha. They'd be avoiding me. When a Great White get's caught by a fisherman or a science research team, I wonder how the government would respond! 1 shark could well shut down all the beach locations from Somerset downwards. It'll be fun to see how the government responds.
  6. You caught me! Got to admit, the outfit really does bring out my eyes! haha
  7. Agreed, but we're all law abiding, and if another member is caught in a "Charged by a rat" situation, they'll be able to respond in a law abiding citizen kind of way....just like we all are. I've asked BASC, but not heard back from them yet.
  8. With snaring, it is not right to set the snare where the animal could fall off and be 'hung'. This is my reading of the law. However, what about squirrel poles where there are snares all the way around it? The reason I'm asking is because I would like to use a squirrel pole style system for rats, however, I want to be 100% law abiding. Any information would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the update mate. Take it to them! After you've done that, you'll set the standard for people reporting the RSPCA. When is auction 2 taking place?
  10. Snare wire has been ordered. Woodga, I really hope you're not offended but I cannot purchase the DVD you've recommended. This is where it sounds crazy...we don't have a TV, DVD player, or any way to watch DVD's. My laptop is a MacBook Air, and has no CD drive. I would have to ask a neighbour whether I could use their TV and DVD player. I'm a proper ludite at times. That's right lads, not even an XBox or PlayStation. Instead of a TV we opted for a library. So, as much as I'd love to purchase the DVD and learn from that, I would just be sat there with a pretty little DVD in a case that I'd n
  11. Ironically, I might be getting a new Ultra like the one I sold to increase the amount of ratting I can do.
  12. I think you missed the part where I said he threatened a 1 man riot unless they got him a cow to knock out. Page 6 I think.
  13. Just found this video. Is this a good system to follow?
  14. Thanks Woodga. I'm pretty good at animal tracking as it is, so I think that'll be the easy part. It's more the making and pegging that I'll be lacking the most. What kind of depth to lay a peg? Does the peg need to be set at an angle or straight down? How high to set a snare for a rabbit vs a rat? Do I need braided wire or single strand? What kind of wire? Do I need locking snares? How do I make locking snares? and much more! Those are the kinds of questions I want to ask. Every time I go ratting I know that the rats I see and shoot are but a fraction of the rats in the area. I want to
  15. Okay cool. I am happy to stand corrected. This is the first day I've been interested in snaring, so I have a lot to learn. I double checked and it was from Ian Neill's The Poacher's Handbook where he says about a snare on a root tile to catch a hare. Where would you say is the best place to start, in regards to learning to make and set snares?
  16. Good shooting. Pop into the pan or make into burger's?
  17. Oh okay. I'm hoping to try my hand at snares tomorrow, after I finish a little ratting. I like the idea of bagging rats while I'm asleep. Also, I think it'd be cool to have a small string of rats handing off a beam for the farmer to see. So what makes brass easier to use than say pike wire or something like that?
  18. Why brass over other kinds of metal? Is there a particular reason, or is it just tradition?
  19. I'm 100% new to this. My information is just memory of what I've read, SAS survival manuals, and youtube. So imagine you're talking to a total noob, because you are.
  20. Hello everyone. I'm looking into starting snaring for a farm to do a little extra rat work. Would a 3kg weight load be enough for a rat? The biggest a rat would be is 1.5lbs. What's your views on that?
  21. Oh okay cool. Thank you. If I have questions on snares and the alike, where would be best to post them?
  22. Wow, we've all heard about the giant rats, thanks to the DailyFail newspaper. But when checking out ratting videos, I came across this: http://www.youtube.c...bed/LuCsHcM_Oy0 There is NFW I'm hunting them with an air rifle!!!
