I think you're right Donna, but in that case I wonder why it doesn't happen with albino to albino mating as albino is also recessive...

Can your whippet x spaniels catch in the open? I would love to see some of them working. Did you use a cocker or springer? I think a spaniel brings more to the table than it takes away in my opinion. She's about as fast as an average rabbit mate, maybe a bit faster because she does seem to gain ground on a rabbit in the open if its a long enough run, but we never bred them to be catch dogs. Sire was only 19" 3/4 whippet 1/4 beddy, and dam is from a strain of small springers just bred for hard bushing by a mate, another dose of running blood and the pups would catch no problem imo. My

Fuji, most policies include 3rd party liability so yes, if your dog wrecks a car or causes 50 ewes to abort your insurance will cover you. I think my policy has £3 million public liability. I guess you'd be into those sort of scary figures if your dog caused a car accident in which someone suffered brain injury, paralysis or somesuch...

I've kept running dogs for over 30 years and always insured them. I've no regrets about doing so. I reckon over that time I've probably just about broken even in terms of premiums paid versus claims made. But for me I prefer to pay a steady drip, drip each month and know I'm covered in case of a sudden emergency. With the cost of vets bills these days it's scarily easy to be faced with a sudden bill in the hundreds or even thousands. If you can afford it fine, but for me I'd really struggle to find that sort of money at the drop of a hat. Hope your youngster makes a full recovery Leesy...

I've only ever bred from 4 different jills, so it's a statistically small sample, but of those 4, three were laid back mums that would let you do all sorts of things, but the fourth was paranoid as hell, easily upset and prone to eating her kits. If this is the first time she's had kits I'd play it safe and not interfere...

For Sale German Wire Hair Pointer X Full Hound
krawnden replied to fox digger's topic in Working Dogs & Livestock
As fox digger says the dog will need pet passport, so microchip, rabies vaccination etc. I'm not certain but I think I'm also right in saying you can't import anything younger than 4 months so the breeder would obviously have to be happy to run the pup on for you for a couple of extra months. Good luck with it though. I think this could be a really handy cross and if I was in the market for a pup I'd be giving it serious consideration. -
Like foxpack says, it might be a bit big. I have a 3/4 terrier, 1/4 whippet that's only a year old but so far shows real promise as a busher/ferreter/ratter (no bedlington in her though). If these pups turn out anything like mine they ought to do the job (assuming the bedlington blood in them is any good)...

The one on the left looks almost blue. Is it, or it just a trick of the light? I've never seen one that colour before.

I feed chicken quite often but never bother to mince it - can't see the point. I get ex layers and just skin 'em.

Cheers mate hope every thing goes well for you mate, he's a great little ferret but he just switches now and again for no reason but saying that when I got him I couldn't even hold him without him trying to bite me, I don't think the guy who I got him of even tried to handle him. cheers bud, yeah i had a polecat jill like that a couple of years back, it was weird as i could hand feed her and she would be gentle, you could pick her up no bother when she was in her hutch or on the ground, she would turn a little but wouldn't nip. Put her near a rabbit hole and she would work her little socks

Cheers James. I asked as I was curious because I've got a litter of 11 bred the same way but they're only a week old at the moment and too early to tell what the colours will be.

Dead right about long waits and nerve-wracking circuits of the burrows I've had quite a few 2hr plus waits over the years and one 5hr wait - never want one of them again than you.
-
The rest of the family making a fuss of them won't affect their working ability one iota. I've only lost one ferret in 30 years, and that was back in the days before I used collars. Good luck fella...
-
oz you don't need any butchering skills - just skin 'em. If what you're left with is too much for one meal for the mutt just chop bits off to suit. If you've got ferrets they'll eat it if the dog's not interested. Failing all of that give it to someone you know who has ferrets or a dog that will eat it (or a hawk).

Lets See Them Whippets, Coarsing, Racing, Working
krawnden replied to brenner's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Love that pic strayshot. I'm assuming 'stowell' means Stowell Park. I went to lots of whippet meetings there over the years. They always had plenty of hares (and fallow!) but from what I remember the 'keeper was a bit of a bellend. He used to insist drives were done in ridiculously complicated ways that didn't have a cat in hell's chance of working. Consequently most of the hares either turned back or slipped out the sides. Very frustrating, especially as he never seemed to learn. -

Nice vid. Did the pup run the second one Trev? -
It certainly won't be a priority for the conservatives, but Cameron did say he'd make parliamentary time for a free vote on repeal. If it happens as things stand today I think it unlikely to go through. But if, as Cameron is saying, part of devolving more power to Scotland means English only votes on English law and they wait till that's been put in place it would make a massive difference and make it far more likely that repeal could happen in England and Wales. But that would leave Scotland as it is now. I'd love to think that repeal was a possibility but I'm not holding my breath. To al
