Maybe controversial, but Queen were shit when Mercury was alive, since then (he died 35 fcuking years ago) they have been an utter irrelevance. May is an egotist, and badgers are just another spotlight for him. Sure I seen something recently where Geldof had to correct the portrayal that the phone lines at live aid went crazy after Queen played.., i.e. they saved all those Ethiopians. Geldof actually praised Bowie for giving up a song in his slot so that the famous vt clip of kids dying would be put out live during the show. Probably more early 80’s than 70’s thing but the advent of the video player and video rental shops was a revelation. Had a mate who’s folks would always be out of a Saturday night and we’d all troop round to his to watch some horror, or Vietnam war.., or gangster movie. Loved this at the time, although it really hasn’t aged well

It’s so reminiscent of the George Floyd thing…, being told one thing on all the news channels, whilst your eyes are telling you a different story. I’m sorry she’s dead, but there’s no way it happens if she’s compliant with the police instruction, and doesn’t drive her car towards an armed officer. Simple.

Been a funny tournament in some ways with big names dropping early and the emergence onto the world stage of some cracking talent. SF’s tonight. Would love to see Ando win it but I think Littler v van Veen final. The way the Dutch lad has played it maybe won’t be a shoe in for Luke the Nuke.

Happy New Year and all the very best for 2026. Sat indoors with the family this year watching BBC Scotland’s latest attempt at humour with ‘Queen of the New Year’. Half an hour of absolute dog sh!t.., and I don’t think we laughed once! Wound up watching a few episodes of this from probably 20 years ago. Never get away with half of it now.., mores the pity. Proper bo!

Watched the parade many years ago, coming down the mound, with her and the kids from the top of the ferris wheel on Princes Street. Edinburgh really does look the part around the festive.

Reports of 10-17% drop off in viewing figures last season (24/25) compared to previous (23/24). I’d be surprised if there hasn’t been a steady decline in viewing figures the last few years now…, interesting. Figures for MOTD down too, with Lineker leaving being cited as the reason. I seldom watch it now, but nothing to do with leaving as I never much liked him anyway. I find the analysis bit boring anyway, but worse when it’s by some women I’ve never even heard of. Sky posted average viewership per game of around 1.57 million, a ten per cent drop on the 2023/24 campaign TNT

Some good points there. My view is that sport always will evolve and change. More often the drivers of change will be greed, but some visionaries have elevated sport to different levels and brought good things. Barry Hearn taking darts from relatively small dark halls to indoor arenas, and from the ‘best of order please’ silence on the throw, broken only by the coughs from the audience choking on cigarette smoke, to the raucous technicolour atmosphere that puts many a top flight football crowd to shame. Just watched it having already seen the result. So AJ sold out. It looked as scripted as WWE.., reckon Joshua was told to try and make it look convincing the first 4, then he could close it out. Jake Paul never been or ever will be a boxer, and has all the stamina you’d expect of a blown up bodybuilder.
