Nothing Like A Good Honest Bitch
bull mcabe replied to bull mcabe's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Sorry to hear that bobby. She sounded like a serious bitch. Im well pleased with the young bitch so far so good looks like she could live up to her parents standards -
Dug a second season bitch yesterday in a rangy place which can run quite deep. The earth in question can be tight in places and seems to have very little stop ends and a terrier has to be on its game to suceed here. The bitch worked her game for two hours before settling, she was dug to at just about five feet well in command she was lifted from the earth 2 hrs 45 mins after entering. She has been to ground for nearly 7 hrs on her last 3 digs. Pleased is an understatement. Theres nothing like a good honest working bitch.

WELL BULL HOWS THE FIELD Tis my field

Still very warm fatman. Meeting a few alrite but still slow enough alot of game lying out in covers. The rain were having now will get a shift on them though.

What sort of a thread is this ? Names for terriers. Come on.
-
By the sound of what you said id stay away from it. No point in risking it for just one earth

nice work liam. Had a couple nice digs myself is the ground as hard wit you?

The way i see it huntermanic is that the least anyone can do is put a good dog over a good bitch worker to worker. But youd be more likely to have sucess and should breed a higher percentage of workers if you use blood that you know inside out. You could get very good pups by using unrelated blood and sometimes an outcross of unrelated blood is needed if a line has gone to far but youll usually find the best results come from a family of terriers as your not taking a chance on somebodies word that a terrier is as good as they say and you know the capabilities of the dog and bitch you are usin

I didn't say it was FACT I just said I've heard it before ! I get what you're saying about the DNA being the same so the chances " should " be the same . Surely though once you've bred a litter has thrown grafters then the repeat should through grafters every time ? It should work that way in my opinion but you just never no wat way a litter will go in the terrier world thats what keeps things interesting. Its nice when you have a good working dog and bitch preferably off the same blood and you think they should compliment each other and produce well bred workers but sometimes thats not the

If you repeat a mating the same potential is there that was in the first mating. The dog or bitches dna has not changed so i cant take it as a FACT that repeat matings dont work. Thats nonsense. Chances are the first mating didnt work so these oldtimers didnt chance the second. Ive seen repeat mating work very well for the work i do. JMHO. I think its as GTE says theres nothing garanteed with any litter first or a repeat.

Thats funny mine are bred the exact same lol. Names are just names exactly. You often hear of good dogs or bitches but then hear from others that they werent that great. Its all about the dogs that are doing the hard graft as we speak not the fact that they have big names behind them that were working ten or so years ago. If a dog is doin itsjob for you today and it comes from well bred dogs who are grafting away tried and tested who cares what names are behind it. Talk is easy and words are cheap

If one of my bitches has two seasons hard work under her belt i would consider breeding from her. But only then. Ive unfortunatly had the displeasure of seeing a couple of very well bred bitches fly through their first season and after a couple of digs into their second start to fail. Iknow good working bitches are everything where bloodlines are concerned and you could be left high and dry if you lost a good one before breeding from her but you owe it to the breed and the terriermen that bred her and her line before her to make sure you test her. Alot of hard work can be undone in one mistake

Have to say i cant really fault bellman and flint (pieps box). But before this i had the mark 3 deben with the pinpointer dial and to be honest i found this very accurate in deep earths. Couldnt fault it really but the bellman seems way to go now pricey enough but no where near the value i have on my terriers

Can any one tell me if the jack pyke countryman boot is any good on the shovel. Sound -
What way is she bred jigsaw?
-
As you said ability and heart are what matters but i saw a young black dog during the week which my friend bred out of some very good dogs and he is the smoothest animal ive seen by far. Smooth to the point he could almost look bald depending on the angle your veiwing him from. I definatly rekon this dog would suffer if he spent a long time in a very wet earth or a cold wet drain. Coat type never even came into my thoughts untill i saw this dog.

By the looks of her i would have to agree with fellas on here id say shes patxstaff X apbt. Judging by her head theres definate pat in here she has the the most staffy ears on her and as you say yourself shes not that leggy. And youve seen the dam which you reckon is apbt. Jmho

Dont own one anymore but there was two small hearing aid batteries that had to go in the case on the collar. the case just pulls apart easily with a bit of pressure and the batteries had to go in facing different directions. And theres a big battery which goes into the reciever. Its straight forward enough youll get the hang of it no prob. Use bellman now but found the mk 3 good esp pinpointer model. Hope that helps

Deben mk 3?
