If you're calling him a peddler dog fox I think you are knocking him
-
Nothing good comes from dog peddlers and lots of good has come from nuttalls yard. On that basis alone I reckon he shouldn't be refered to as a peddler. I've never had anything to do with the man or his stock but a lot of people would have nothing if it wasn't for him. It's easy to see the splinter in someones eye and you can't see the plank in your own as an old man once said to me.

In an area we hunt we've had foxes with an almost fully white back leg. First spotted them about 6 yrs ago and they've popped up every year since then. They seem to be confined to the one area for now.

Well said foxdropper I agree. Anyone who injures a dog on breaking through should not be on the other end of the shovel and probably not anywhere near a dig in my opinion. I can't actually believe those stories of people maiming dogs or game with finding bars or shovels and grafts.
-
I know times have moved on 5 ft down and I agree for the better in lots of cases. I only used 0.5 as an example it could have been any figure. But even at half a metre you may miss a tube especially a tight one by a bare fraction. As I'm near a dog I like to locate the tube exactly, maybe it's not for some but old habits die hard I suppose. I couldn't see it putting undue pressure on game or terrier as the spades and grafts etc would do that ten times over. If the dog is up to the job he'll see it through. It can often allow you a second to listen to see if your dog is fully up to his game. As

Even with modern locaters you can still get a reading of 0.5 for example. You can move the locater box a good distance and still get 0.5 or whatever reading it is. This is where I find the finding bars handy. I'm never without one I find them a must but a lot of it is to do with who taught you the trade. I learned off older boys who always used them and I continue to do so. I'll even admit to having 2 in the van.

Lol well said timmy now I get you! I suppose it depends on how long you expect to get out of them. But after 3 seasons digging even though there well maintained mine are showing wear and tear.
-
Five years out of your meindl dovres isn't bad. It all depends on what you do with them and how often your in them. A couple of hard seasons digging a couple of days a week and you'll go through any boot.
-
I've had 3 good seasons out of a pair of meindl dovre extreme gtx. Can't fault them really.Every pair of leather boots need constant treatment to keep them supple and stop them cracking. I'll probably pick up another pair during the season.

Working A Pregnant Bitch.
bull mcabe replied to T basil brush's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Chances are youve put alot of time effort and thought into lining your bitch so i wudnt risk working her. Alot of work can be undone in a blink of an eye in the hunting game. -
Usually when fits start they can be a rare occurance and the dog learns to deal with them. They usually start to become more and more frequent as time passes and dogs struggle to come out of them and at that stage theres only one thing to do. It can often take a long time for a dog to reach this stage but your one seems to be having them frequently which in my experience may not be good news at all. Sorry for only offering bad news but thats what ive learned over the years in regards to seizures.

On a slightly different note two of my earths that no one else used to dig have been dug in the last week and as gutted as i was that someone else now knows them i have to hand it to whoever they were as their backfilling was absolutely perfect. Nice to see for once.
-
Thats fair then if youve seen him working. I saw the dog working for the past few yrs and he was not spared he was put in places alot of men would walk past and he got results. The dog i know doesnt deserve getting abuse on a public forum. JMO

You never answered my question have you seen the dog work. my only interest in the matter is to not see an honest dog slated on a computer. Words are cheap and i dont think id slate a mans dogs when ive never seen them work.
-
word is that black dog walked so I wouldnt be worrying about what went on with him!!! Who's word only Johnny Blucks. That doesnt carry much strength with anyone. The dog isnt mine or anything to do with me but is a cracking worker tested to the hilt so i would worry about what went on with him. Have you seen the dog work? If not dont slate him.

The black dog that went over is a good animal and well bred. The dog shouldn't have been disgraced by giving it over to that fraud to breed from.

F$%k it there a snip at that price ill buy all seven. Id say they'll all work. -
Couple of hardy little heads there. shiny and fat the way i like to see a litter. Shouldnt be too small either i reckon judging by the feet on them. There a credit to you.
-
I couldnt honestly tell you that but the majority of the bulldog gear already comes with steel shafts so there fine.
-
You cant really go wrong with bulldog shovel and graft. There solid enough but we usually make up our own gear put stainless handles onto shovels and good steel shafts onto the grafters and forks for a bit of weight. The sharptooth fork is a god send for breaking out real hard stony ground pricy but worth it. Heat tempered so wont bend.

Accuracy Of The Red B&f Box
bull mcabe replied to pollypocket's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
The pieps box can be sometimes out a small bit the closer you get to the dog it can give the same reading in various locations which is slightly annoying but used along side a t bar you should never miss a dog itll usually only be a matter of inches. Too be honest it suits me down to ground and everyone gets used to their own individual box how exact do we really need it.Its not a bad thing to occasionly use your brain as well as the box. To much accuracy would take alot of the fun out of it for some as seeing it would only be a matter of inches.
