not wanting kennels full of breed specific dogs i use my lurchers for everything including retriving shot game, even in water, in the pigeon hide and rough shooting i expect them to bush and retrieve. i admit they havent the style of a spaniel or a lab but the do the job to the standard i require and forefill all that a lurcher should do aswell. they cost nowhere near a gundog to buy and in most cases are easier to train and tend to have a longer working life. i have no inclination to field trial or pay to shoot driven game so in short why would i want a one track pony of a gundog?

old flash is 10 now still catches on the lamp but suffers next day if you slip him too many times, hes a crafty old git in the day knows just were to position himself to just nip in at the end of a course to snaffle up the prize, he still retrieves anything shot and is as good at the end of a dig as he ever was. hes bull grey x colliegrey/beddy/whippit/grey. will try to find a picture to put up

dont how sooty sam ran but i had a blue bitch he sired back in1994 mistral (fast lady of meliden) she took hare and rabbits well. she was an exellent ferreting dog, the only dog ive owned that would crown a laid up ferret. she also went in on the odd fox. all in all a very game little bitch.

traditionally long nets have always been made in square mesh not diamond mesh as are purse nets. as i said earlier make one a stop net or something smaller for a start,

This is kind of true, but I've always thought that less than a fag paper separation means the barrel is likely to come into contact with the stock during the firing cycle, so it's not truly free floating. Neil, if the fag paper catches it means the gap is a little on the thin side. What's the stock on that rifle? If it's wood, I'd get some fine sand paper and a piece of wooden dowel slightly thinner than the barrel, and gently ease the channel where the paper catches (you'll need to take the action out of the stock to do it) until you can smoothly pass a fag paper all the way down to

the basics are simple the rest is just practice. dont forget that purse nets are made in diamond mesh and long nets are made in square mesh.

if your going to make a 6 foot net in 3 inch mesh start with 12 go up to 24 then back to 12

same here shredded wax paper from the track. before this became available used shredded jay cloth again from the track.

i use shredded waxed paper off the greyhound lads keeps then warm and does not turn to mush when the dogs come back wet.. if your worried put a heat lamp in there with them.

think mr hawkins might disagree. yes some with natural ability will learn quicker but in the end theres no subsitute for getting them out there, most get brushed off without even being tried properly, kept locked up for weeks then expected to be a world beater on the one day someone decides to take them out. Then binned off further down the low life chain as being a jacker or what ever the new inword is. give them a proper chance then if they dont make the grade pts. if this was done by all we wouldnt be having this chat and the terrier world wouldnt be full of shit.

can believe it i do the pest control on a muslim faith boarding school i know for a fact if the police need to talk to one of the kids they have to make an appointment first they carnt just turn up.
