  1. no no , in Belgium you can own a lurcher as a pet dogbu it is ilegal to hunt with them ! and yes if the catch you hunting with a lurcher , longnet , or a snare , you are poaching and they put you in prison ! believe it or not . What's the minimum sentence? & have you actually heard of any cases? I doubt most belgiun police would even have a clue what a lurcher is, after all there doesn't seem to be a culture of poaching with lurchers here..... Hard to believe mooching with a little rabbiting dog could see you doing a stretch on B wing! Lol
  2. So If you get caught with a lurcher in belgium, they put you in prison?? Lol seriously?.....I suppose that's like the belgium law of hybrid dogs are forbidden, but every other dog you see on the street is a crossbreed lol
  3. On top of that...if you fancy trying a nice piece of literature that's truly inspiring, then look up The Rites of Autumn by Dan O'Brien......it won't teach you anything about Harris hawks, but will illustrate what one man, a hawk & pure passion can achieve....Atb

I got a mate who lived there for 20 years & he said the same thing lol

There's a recent thread in the general falconry section, the suggestions made in that thread are the best options mate......get yourself a few & dive in! Atb
  6. I'd seen falconry displays & it never really grabbed me to be honest, I find them dull, but the first time I went hunting with a female Harris & I saw her catch a ferreted rabbit,,...that was it! I was hooked from day one, I just knew I had to do it, no matter what...it even influenced where I bought a house with my then girlfriend! Lol If you don't feel like that now, I suggest you stick to the dogs mate....
  7. Just thought I'd recommend this dish, it's really easy to do & makes a nice change from the usual hare recipes. I cooked this last night with a couple of hare fillets, don't worry about the slow cooked bit, as I misread the recipe during the day & when I came to do it quite late in the evening, I then realised the sauce was cooked for a couple of hours! Lol...,so I did the complete opposite, reducing it really quickly instead in 30 mins & it still turned out great! The actual fillet is just cooked in a few minutes at the end. I don't know how to put the link up, but if you google
  8. Bad luck with the stick mate, I find a lot of dogs owners just don't give a fcuk! I've had five different dogs stray into my garden in the last year or so, when contacting the owners most seemed quite unconcerned lol
  9. Well I'm sold! It's obviously perfectly safe to have 6 male pitbulls round small children & food, that proves it? Cos we all know there's no bad dogs, just bad owners! Right? Fcuking imbeciles!!!
  10. Yeh I had the same problem, I honestly had to start standing further away with mine on certain warrens, it just became too easy for him......
  11. I'll check that out, haven't looked for a good while........my only little critique of some of their vids, is when they ferret, they stand too close to the warrens.....which are of often way out in the open, I'd be more inclined to seek more testing flights than the big numbers! Do love the dog work though :-)
  12. I've seen all the Dalemews stuff, many times :-)......I always feel a little bit envious about where they fly their birds & I like the fact they stick with the parent reared birds.....& the dog work is quality
  13. Some very valid points there, vagueness can be a problem in books for newcomers, I certainly found that to be the case....., but speaking as a FaceBook phobic :-)......I think it would be a very sad day, when instead of recommending a decent book to a potential new falconer, you direct them to FaceBook! :-(......but hey, I still like record shops, so maybe I'm not the best to ask....lol Like you said the Nick Fox book is very informative & well worth having...... I struggled to find really informative reading on Goshawks, strangely only vague references to them in some of the old classics
  14. Or a bicycle, I use one regularly to exercise mine, you can cover over twice the distance in less than half the time.....
  15. yeah mate, first bird. Was a bit late in the season to get a young bird, then this bird came up, so thought even if I don't get him going this season then at least I would learn quite abit with him regarding confidence, manning, conditioning etc etc. I'll fly him for rest of the season then decide whether to get a young bird in the summer and make it what I want, or do one more season with the red after moult. My "mentor" (so to speak) let me down really, so it's been a bit of a learning curve for me and the bird, I'm sure an experienced falconer may have had him going earlier than me, but like
  16. Is this your first bird? If so, that's excellent mate! Great hawks....
  17. That's all you need for a Harris.......forget parry jones blah blah blah......
  18. Even harder to catch with a hawk!......only ever managed one & deep down I don't even count it, as it was struggling to get out of cover when I slipped the gos. Truly a masterful quarry..... I once flushed one that the gos refused, only to see a spar take it instead! Having missed many dozen with hawks.....a shotgun seems second rate.....
  19. lord of the rings meets the sopranos lol Cheers!
