Will Buzzards/kites Kill Chickens?
Accip74 replied to trapperman's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I've got a Spanish book on goshawking & in it they use a female gos with rubber tips on her talons to catch kites for the purpose of ringing etc :-))) I'd love to of seen that haha....... now that would make for an interesting video on youtube...lol. I would imagine that even with the rubber tipped talons,The Kites would'nt be very healthy after a grappling session with a Female Gos...lol. and what about the beak ? did they tape it up...heheee. Well that's what I thought..........considering the awesome grip of female gos, maybe they buried more than they rung? Haha.... -
Not necessarily mate, in some rangy, sandy places by the time you've dropped your second dog in the quarry may of dug on..........the second dog may get the chance to be the hero in that situation, but can just as easily be made to look poor. I'm not saying I wouldn't try, but when there's been a fcuk up, I'm sometimes inclined to say fcuk it & want to move on........mind, that's easier said when it's not your own dogs & I was proved wrong a couple of time last season haha......

I didn't see much, some hares..........it was pretty flat. The people are great, very friendly & good with English :-), a few times in Copenhagen had folk just come up to us to see if we needed any help! Well worth a visit :-)

That's a great plan, I'll be doing the same when my kids are older..........I've really got into these driving tours now :-) flying straight to a resort, staying in the same place for a week or two, then flying back holds little appeal to me...... My youngest will only be 11 month when we go,,,so I'm going to try and keep the driving to at most 6 hours,,,but some places we stop at for a few days,,,and I think one place for a week,,, The furthest we've been so far was up to Denmark & Sweden last year when my boy was a similar age, I put a 4 hour limit on my driving then, obviously depen

No doubt there is a link, opportunist like buzzards will adapt to a given food source. Maybe if you had more rabbits & pheasants locally there'd be less decline in hare numbers?I too have noticed in my local area here, that hares will commonly lay up in woodland & cover, perhaps a link to buzzard numbers? although hares seem to be thriving locally...............my local knowledge is still very sketchy though -
I'm terrible sleeper at the best of times,if I have a smoke before bed I lay there flapping about like a landed fish, feck knows what that's all about lol To much to think about mate ;-)

I always have lots of dreams & usually remember quite a bit the next day..........my wife claims she doesn't? The best & most vivid dreams I've had were on 24mg nicorette patches, fcuking great stuff! A particular one will stay with me forever...... When I was younger I would sometimes eat hash before bed, in an attempt to induce crazy dreams............it didn't really work, just used to wake up at 3 in the morning really stoned & hungry........

But who's trying to kid anyone? It's only on the THL I've seen all this 'nudge nudge wink wink' guess what? Birds of prey, prey on stuff......lol &?I've seen it on birdwatching/Nature forums, where mentioning such things creates I big hulla- ballu! I mean it is what it is! Saying that, I'm not sure how many wild birds are taken, probably not a large number! Reared birds are easy pickings though! I'd never question that they do cause damage, but maybe how much? It's true that buzzard numbers a disproportionate now in many parts of the uk & probably should be addressed, not just because -
Father's Day was last week here.........I got a card etc & this week there going out for the day without me......so I'm on a roll! :-)

Yes shite at taking game in the air, but f***ing deadly at taking them on the ground! Bit unsporting like, for hunting purposes! Deadly lol............you ever been out with Harris hawks mate? 90% of game is taken on the ground, now they are deadly! -
Nice one.......yeh he's looking more like a dutch shepherd x every day lol

You clearly haven't seen kites taking pheasants out of the air. I have. You'd recommend them for use in falconry then? Obviously not, I was stating a fact. No self respecting austringer would be seen dead with a kite for hunting ... If they were plucking pheasants out of the air with any regularity, I doubt many would be too proud to give them a whirl.....;-) -

I really don't see what the big deal on here is all the time about the realisation that birds of PREY are inclined to PREY on other animals. Hardly unlocking the mystery's of the natural world is it? I've never personally heard this myth that buzzards are ONLY carrion & insects eaters only, its obvious that they will be opportunists, wether that's an easily taken pheasant or a worm or road kill, whatever comes easiest at the time.....hardly a revelation..... I've personally witnessed a 1lb 9 oz male Harris give chase on a roe deer, very unlikely to be regularly on the menu though, is it? -
