Foxes Or Rather A Lack Of Them

they are survivors they have proved that but no animal is impossible to eradicate. I believe fox cubs should be aloud grow so then there is the best chance of the best genes being past on which helps ensure a strong and healthy population. I believe that for all animals. shooting every cub you see doesn't allow natural selection to happen. question: how many cubs have any of you killed so far this year? -
Foxes Or Rather A Lack Of Them

I did not say there were no foxes, what I said is that we were not seeing them in the areas we normally do,and I can assure you I am not complaining about the lack of foxes, and the landowner certainly isn't,and as for a close season, well do you think the foxes observe a close season on the hens and a couple of dozen duck taken over the last year or two? and as for rabbits I have not shot a rabbit on this farm for 3 years, in an effort to give them a chance, their demise is down to brock pure and simple, disgruntled dog man or not you must understand that fox control in some areas is a necessit -

KILLING. IS KILLING. dont be so nieve as to think you can hide behind a few words. like shooter/ stalker/ . as far as your average anti is concerned.. everyone that kills animals in whatever way by whatever method FOR WHATEVER REASON. is fair game. get real. But there is a difference between killing for the sake of it and killing for conservation of the natural balance or the table. What do you think about driven shooting and rearing of game birds. How does that fit in? well that's not pest control that's a business in my view. take estates where the birds are reared an -

a dog can be unlucky and get bit? what do you think happens when a dog catches a fox he lies there and waits to die? of course the dog is going to get bit the fox wants to live. if the dog misses the fox he gets away unharmed, if the dog catches the fox he dies. as said before a good dog will kill the fox in seconds. I have 2 dogs I use for foxes 1 takes 2 or 3 minutes to kill them so he gets bit a lot. the other dog has only had 2 so far and took care of them in 10 to 15 seconds. I don't want to sound like im giving out because im not im just trying to explain that a fox does not get away fro -

when i shoot a fox its for the kill but when I go out with the dogs its for more than the kill its for the chase and the dogs working ability. the dog doesn't catch every fox its not that easy you have to call the fox in close enough for the dog to chase then he has to try catch him. foxes are fast and they can turn on a penny in full sprint plus the fox knows every inch of his territory and knows were to get away. with dogs its about more than the kill. you don't have to teach a working dog to work he'll just work whether its fox, rabbit, boar, haire or what ever. how do you think food was ca -

my nikko stirling game king only cost 90 euro that's like £85 I know its a cheep scope but its very good. I paid 350 euro for a hawk scope a few years back and I prefer the nikko s. it hasn't lost zero yet and I have it a year or so. the scope is great with light force 170 that's what I use except I don't use the red filter. pentax is another cheep but good scope.

if the .17wsm is capable and accurate enough to stop a rabbit at 250 yards and the person taking the shot has the experience and is confident in his shooting then why shouldn't he take the shot. that's like saying you shouldn't take the shot with a .22 hornet.
-
I have a nico-sterling game king 3-9x40 on my .22 wmr and its very clear at night. what kind of lamp are you using? I use light force and its great with that but I also have an led rifle mounted lamp 200 mtr rang and its not so good with the led lamp.
-
fair enough but I think you already have the better gun jmo but getting a .22 wmr wont give you any advantage.
-
I just looked up the sabatti site the gun weighs 3.3kg = 7.3lb add scope and bipod and its about 8 1/2lb.
-
my .223 is a sabatti rover 600 dl and I was surprised at how light it was when I first held it. the heavy barrel version of the same gun is supposed to be very heavy.
-
Yes I had 1 and to be honest I'd like to have it back but there is such little difference between the .17 hmr and the .22 wmr in the field it's not worth the hassle of waiting a few months for the licence to come. Both guns will stop a fox at 130 yards no problem and maybe further I just wouldn't take the shot any further than 130. They are affected by wind that's why I changed to the .22 wmr but so are they affected by wind. In the field both guns are very similar and very good, the only reason I prefer the .17 hmr is it is a lot flatter shooting. Both guns are great on rabbit out to 200 yard
-
Go ahead and get your .22 wmr then and see how long you use it for before you leave it in the cabinet and go back to using your .17 hmr for all your shooting. I just bought a .223 rem with scope and its no heavier than my cz 452 .22 wmr and a lot lighter than the .17 hmr savage I had.

nice shooting

the .22 magnum wont kill any better than the .17 hmr at 100 yards nor will the .17 hmr kill any better than the .22 magnum at 150 yards, dead is dead no matter how hard the bullet hits. if its a long rang fox gun you want get a .223. imo your wasting your money getting a .22 magnum but it is your money.

I quite agree,Hornady have probably recognised the fact that this nail gun cartridge is just another trendy cartridge like the shite .17hmr, designed to relieve the "must have the latest thing"shooters of some cash,it will be all the rage for 5 minutes when it comes out, and we will see the endless stream of posts like (what scope for my new nail gun) (rabbit shot at 3 miles with nail gun) crap that we see for the hmr all the time, then the inevitable, wsm burst case, case stuck, my nail gun blew up ect ect, if you must have a .17 get a proper one a centerfire that you can reload and wont be s
-
I don't see the point in getting a .22 mag if you already have a .17 hmr. the .17 hmr is flater shooting, more accurate at longer ranges and just as good to stop rabbit or fox. every one to there own but I think you already have the better gun.
-
I was up the fields today with the decoys on a wheet field that has been cut early to be bailed for feed. I got these few in an 1 1/2 hours 26 birds.
-
I don't have a .17 anymore but when I had I used 17 gr hornady v-max its a brilliant round, deadly on rabbits and a good round for fox too.

I have a cz 452 2e-zkm lux .22 wmr and it is a great gun, its not synthetic but I would recommend it for anyone looking to get a .22. it is very accurate out too 150-160 yards after that you have to alow windage. the 2 rabbits on the right of the pic were shot at 161 and 164 yards with a 1 mill dot hold over. WP_000354 (300x400).jpg if zero was set at roughly 60 yards and you were usung high velocity ammo the drop at 100yrds would still be about 5 inch so at 150 yrds there is no chance it would be 1 mill dot unless the zero was over 100yrds. add to this you are probably using subsonic

the cz 452 2e-zkm lux also comes in synthetic I just saw it on another thread. its a very good gun nice and light for free hand shooting and well priced 400-500 euro.
