I find this type of thing very interesting and a conversation that I had with my boys psychologist springs to mind. He has ADHD and also a very "male" brain which gives him a genetic predisposition to act first and think later, both verbally and physically. However he was raised, he would still have this trait, of course how he is raised can help him fit into the modern world better. As his shrink said, he would more fit into a celtic, warrior type society than he does In the modern, pc world that we live in now. Through my dealings with dogs I truly do believe that mental illness and cond

Sitting on top of the hill I go to on the south downs, as the sun sets and after my last dog has passed as I wouldn't trust anyone else to have them, looking forward to all my dogs greeting me on the other side

Huan72 i probably have a bit of a bias view as i admire the working ability of a pit bull far more than the pet side so i might not be the best person to ask.....i never kept them indoors around kids they were in kennels/runs as were anyone elses i knew who admired the breed like i did.......i know and can fully accept some of them make great house dogs and are as reliable as any other breed around kids, they can have enough intelligence and self confidence not to get worked up like many dogs can..........but......if im perfectly honest i dont think the breed as a whole make good house dogs....

I know that wasn't aimed at me however I am from Liverpool originally and there is hundreds of pits there and I know a lot of people who have them and they have lived and died with families and kids without a hiccup. They are bred to protect people they pose no threat in family life if raised correctly they are just another dog. Breed is completely irrelevant! There are tiger cubs born from a wild feral tiger but the cub is raised in captivity and can't be released because its too friendly. Its the same with dogs, raise it right and you'll have a loving family member regardless of breed!

Gnasher, from some of your previous posts I suspect that you know an awful lot more about pits and their crosses than I do. Just interested in your opinion, do you think that they can be trusted in a family situation or do you think that their inherent game drive is just too intense. I think your previous comment was well put, about all bull breeds being labelled together. Having said that I do agree with the deed not breed principle. It would be good to get a straight from the hip opinion from someone who "knows" the breed

For anyone to seriously suggest that all bull breeds should be banned is just plain stupid IMO. The difference is that when a bull breed does attack, its plastered all over the media, it fits into the view of the ignorant who think that bull breeds are only kept by scum and that they are toy sized werewolves, ready to kill with a blood lust fury. I would never leave my staff alone with any child, not because I don't trust my dog, because I don't trust children. The sad fact is that some parents let their children pull, bully and harass the family pet until it finally snaps and unfortunately th

I haven't misread or misquoted, you said your ex thought she knew dogs, inferring that she didn't. You have said that she groomed the dog against your advice. You have said your dog was known to be aggressive. You said that you've assessed dogs for rehoming, like the GSD for the army. So my points are this, your ex was naive to even groom the dog, let alone to kiss it, it wasn't a mistake, it was stupidity. You allowed her to groom the dog. You shouldn't have advised her not to, you should have prevented it. You caused that dogs death because of your poor judgement and your failure to pro

What Happens To Your Dog If You Got Locked Up
Huan72 replied to danconnie's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
If you are arrested and your dog is with you, the police have to make arrangements to kennel your dog and during the time the dog is in their care, they have a responsibility for its welfare. -
This dog that bit your ex girlfriend, why did you not give it another chance? If it was aggressive, why was your girlfriends face anywhere near it? Do you not think that you are to blame for this incident for allowing it to happen? You can't claim to be a good judge of dogs and someone that should be able to decide a dogs (and potentially a childs) fate when you've allowed an incident to occur in which someone was bitten. Your dog, your responsibility. Rehoming centres aren't staffed by experts in dog behaviour and are a joke a lot of the time. They are a way of generating income. Why does

By the time I get home from work, its dark and if I wanna take my dog into the country I have to walk on the footpaths when its dark. I am not going to stumble around in the dark without a torch, turning ankles and loosing my dog.

You can not make something 100% scum proof but you can slow them down and put them off to an extent were they wont bother. Definitely make the fence more difficult to climb and rig PIR lights and sound alarms to go off as soon as they cross the fence, the louder and brighter the better. Put any cable in armoured sleeving or used armoured cable and lay a dummy cable so that when they try and cut it the sound/lights still carry on. Will put the s**ts up em. Have back up PIR lights away from the kennels, the 500 or 1000 watt type to floodlight the whole area. On one of the alarms have a voice rec

This is an absolute tragedy, this dog should not have been rehomed to this family, end of. I have worked in rehoming centres and most of the dogs in centres are there because of changes to the owners circumstances, not because of behaviour problems, a common one being a relationship split. Not the dogs fault so give them a chance. I have been involved with many dogs that found long term homes, have helped GSD's get in the army when they would have been PTS, a classic one being a dog that the staff were frightened of but I gave him a chance and when the army bloke turned up he said that the dog

Dogs Thieves In Action In Barnsley
Huan72 replied to fatmoocher's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Stealing a persons dog is one of those crimes that the justice system does not deal with properly. I hope these blokes are caught and justice is done -
I always wondered why no one seems to question this method of killing..........................it does make me think...............

The problem as you say, is were the money is going.............I actually know a family of two adults with 3 children, they live in a privately rented house, which I believe costs £700 a month, they have a 10 plate people carrier and neither work, or want to work and the only stress they have is waiting for benefits so that they can get takeaway's, I kid you not. You know its benefit day because they get in a massive Chinese take away. The priorities and how we hand out benefits needs to change. I really do think though that the MOD could do a lot more, alchohol abuse is a major reason for hom
