  1. Yes, but just the males, they have a couple of nasty spurs one behind each rear leg. Managed to see a few, but they were in a side viewing tank with minimal light. They are a lot smaller than I had imagined and very agile and quick under water, which is why I couldn't get a photo
  2. Recently visited Melbourne to see some family and meet the new grandaughter. Visited an animal sanctuary which deals only with indigenous aussie animals, so not a zoo. Took a few photos, mostly with family in, but also a few of the creatures, and a couple of wood carvings. Oh!, don't let an aussie hear you call a koala a bear
  3. Got to give a big thumbs up to Prince Harry for giving up his seat to one of the 'few' so he could join the flight after the 2 seater he was going to fly in developed a fault.
  4. Looks like you had an enjoyable session there, nice one. Nice to see a perm with a few bunnies on. Got out myself last week, here's my write-up... "Not a single shot fired, saw just 2 bunnies doing 100mph, f*cking 'dire' would describe the session"
  5. Google Earth is a pretty good tool for measuring distances of land and buildings etc. It's quite accurate, and I use it for when I go for walks so see how far, and it also handy for measuring the fields on your permission(s), you can even map the perimiters using the path tool. You can zoom right in and plot from a particular spot where you were standing. Also used to use it for fishing to measure casting distances.
  6. Absolutely correct, and I have got 8 mosquito bites to prove it
  7. The chemo was suggested by the vet but it didn't take long to realise that it made him worse. He was only on the chemo less than 2 weeks, and yes, a hard decision but one that needed to be made. Hope yours is a better result.
  8. Had a staffy 8 years old started to become weak and despite giving him his walks/exercise his belly got fat. Vet started taking the piss and recommended a diet. Wife got her mates son to take him to another vet and they diagnosed Cushings syndrome, adrenal cancer. Put him on chemo therapy but he got too ill. Started getting open sores at the base of the neck etc. Had to have him put down. No cure for it although sometimes they can extend life by a few months. Hope it's not that, good luck with him.
  9. Be aware that any pellets you shoot should not exceed the boundaries of the land/property you have permission to shoot over, so shooting up to ferals on a roof you would need a backstop unless you had permission of land owners within about 200 yards. Hope that makes sense. Try to get yourself tucked out of sight of any neighbours to save a visit from plod. I removed some ferals for my neighbour last year which were nesting under his solar panels and shitting all over his conservatory and decking, and it took ages waiting for safe shots, bearing in mind I didn't want to shoot his solar panels
  10. The foxes I have seen down the park all look to have a bit of age to them, in fact my pup has chased this one a couple of times. Not in a nasty way, but I'm sure he thinks they are just another dog and when they bolt he thinks they want to play chase. Maybe have to see how he gets on with a tenterfield whistle
  11. Took my 9 month old pup for his morning walk about 0445 this morning, to the local park. He spent most of the time running around off the lead hunting for bitches piss, so head down pretty much all the way round. At the end of the circuit I (or he) usually find a stick and do a bit of recall etc. Have tried with a ball but after about 3-4 retrieves he's not interested. Anyways, today I took one of his 'Kong' squeaky tennis balls, and we proceded to 'play'. After about 5 recalls he laid down and started to have a chew on the ball, which emits a low squeak. After a couple of minutes charlie appe
  12. Remember about 1980, a circular was posted at my depot, warning of the giant hogweed alongside the railway track between Paddock Wood and Maidstone West. Quite a few track workers had been affected by it.
  13. Can't really tell from the photo wether it is split cane or not. If it does not have a hexagonal cross section it could well be made of solid Greenheart wood. Other woods were used to make rods though, Mahogany, Hickory and Elm. Sometimes the tip section would be made of Lancewood as it was more resilient to splintering when under pressure. As for its value, you would have to take it to an expert/collecter of antique tackle or an auction house.
  14. The Jerk paste can be bought at afro caribbean stores, and some branches of ASDA do it. You can also get it online. Google Dunnes River Jerk Seasoning, it's a wet paste and comes in a jar, the powder seasoning is not as good IMHO. The WalkersWood jerk paste is also very good. The dried apple you can buy from a butcher supplier in East Kilbride, called Scobies (google it), you can also get dried leek flakes from them. With leeks, garlic powder, onion powder etc you are better off using the dried for sausages because you are then in full control of the amount of liquid that goes into the sausage
  15. I used to make a lot of sausages, and can confirm that the meat needs to be cold during all stages of production. By 'cold', I mean ideally between 1ºC and 5ºC and well mixed after the spices have been added to get the salt/myosin to work properly (about 5 minutes) so you don't end up with a 'grainy/crumbly' end product. I used to put the meat/fat into the freezer to get it firm and cold (not frozen) prior to mincing, and back in after mixing to cool it back down. Always make a small patty to fry off after mixing to see if you have the desirable flavour profile and adjust accordingly. You will
  16. Thanks for the link villaman, can't seem to find a full set of seals on there though. Cylinder has NEVER been removed, and have had the rifle for 3 years, so wouldn't have thought it was the cylinder seal unless the seal has just deteriorated with age. I note they do ptfe replacement seal, so maybe it has failed, although it doesn't seem to have lost any air since yesterday. VWman, don't be put off of the HW100, they are indeed top draw. As said, I have had this one for 3 years and it has never been serviced and has had many thousands of pellets through it. Only maintenance I have done is
  17. Less than 5 weeks ago I renewed the hammer assembly as my ft/lbs had dropped. All Ok, or so I thought. Topped up the cylinder to 200 bar, and when I got it out to have a plink and re-zero the guage showed empty. Obviously needs seals renewing, which I will attempt myself. Has anybody got any recommendations who I should buy the seals from. I found some on ebay for £6.95 inc p&p, and note that John Knibbs sells them for £12.50 (think that's + p&p.) Any difference in quality?, and also any hints and tips would be appreciated. Thanks.
  18. Poxy christmas songs repeated over and over from mid november 'til christmas, on the radio, tv adverts, piped music in shops etc, hate them all.
  19. Remeber back in the 80's, me and my mate were fishing the South Mere at Thamesmead. There were a few dead roach drifted into our shoreline blown by the breeze. Then I noticed an old vietnamese bloke shuffling along the bank with a blue plastic colander attached to a stick. He was scooping the dead roach out, giving them a sniff and then putting them into a white carrier bag. Thing is, where most of the dead fish had congregated it f^cking stank and he took the lot. Said to my mate, "whatever you do, don't get a chinky take-away tonight.
  20. Looks like it has already landed at Heathrow after declaring a state of emergency, although they haven't said what the emergency was.
  21. Brilliant news, well done, showing these c*nts up for what they really are. They have blighted 1000's of peoples lives and caused untold misery along the way, using their 'the animal had to be destroyed' policy and playing on the heartstrings of the vulnerable to keep their coffers topped up. Hope the second half of your fight goes as well as this, and all those who are culpable get what they deserve.
  22. Don't see them very often nowadays, found one in my hallway by the front door a few years back, not a clue how it got there though, just put it out the back garden. Those 2 on the bivvy I returned to the rotting stump well away from each other. Don't know if they fight but the males have formidable pincers unlike the female's which are a lot smaller. Didn't want to be stumbling about my swim in the dark and tread on them, and they had gone by first light. Didn't mind that website putting my photo's up, but claiming copywrite?
  23. An old (not very good) photo I took back in june 2007, I thought may be of interest (or not) of a couple of male stag beetles which landed on my bivvy whilst doing a bit of night fishing. There were a few more about the vicinity, and there was an old, large rotting tree stump about 20 ft from where I was plotted up. I found a stag beetle website and sent them some photo's and the circumstances of the night along with ordnance survey reference. When I went back on the site THEY had claimed copywrite of MY photos, bloody cheek.
  24. Back in the early 70's there was an older driver at the depot, and if you turned up for work having used after shave or deoderant, he would tell you 'You stink worse than a pox doctors clerk', or 'you smell like a Turkish brothel keeper's underpants'.
