  1. I like several of the more modern war films - Green Zone, Hurt Locker and so on. There's a good one starring Mark Wahlberg called Lone Survivor. True story of Marcus Luttrell a US Marine Seal , and his truly remarkable survival in the mountains of Afghanistan. Well, well worth a watch !
  2. Amid accusations of whitewash and cover-up, the long-awaited Chilcott report into the circumstances leading up to the Iraq War, has been delayed and will not now be published until after the General Election, despite beginning it's enquiries 6 years ago ! CamMoron says the enquiry should have been started sooner and the delay is "extremely frustrating". Nick Clegg says the delay is " incomprehensible".While Ed Millipede hasn't said very much at all, Saint Tony of Blair has stated (predictably ?) that he is not responsible, and is frustrated at not having the opportunity to clear his name (!
  3. True story of the Bielski partisans. There was also a documentary on them, showing how they invented smokeless stoves that couldn't be seen from the air, amongst other things. Ray Mears, it was. There's also several good books about the Bielski brothers. Remarkable men, well worth a read !
  4. Politicians have all manner of awkward questions asked of them all the time. Sadly, they are the masters of speaking for 10 minutes without actually saying anything. They seem to have a genetic inability to use the words 'yes' and 'no', and are obsessed with reducing all meaningful discussion to a 4 second sound bite for the 6 o'clock news. So is the modern age of communication - the only problem being that what we have isn't communication, because communication is a two-way street. We only receive information (and I use that word only in it's loosest meaning), which has been rewritten, r
  5. Thanks for the comprehensive and helpful replies.
  6. A mate uses one on his scope and says it's helped improve his accuracy quite a bit. Ive never used one (he's left-handed), so any thoughts on their use and benefits, or indeed their downside ? Cheers chaps !
  7. Hmm, I didn't realise that. I probably wouldn't go for that then. I used to like the old German stuff like BSF, Feinwerkbau, Weihrauch's etc. I don't think you can hold the fact that it's made in China against it. So much is these days, after all ! My first rifle was a Stoeger - I may be wrong on the exact details, but it's something like made in Turkey, to a Chinese design while Stoeger itself is owned by Benelli which is in turn owned by Beretta. (Confused ? Me too !)
  8. The largest part of my problem with politicians is that they don't have to live with the consequences of their policies and decisions. I reckon that Millipede is worth a few quid, CamMoron is a multi-millionaire (though still not as wealthy as his missus !), while Osborne is as wealthy as the three of them put together. The large majority of the Cabinet were educated at Eton, Harrow and the like and all have lucrative business connections, which will serve them well when they finally abandon the gravy train that is the political life. None have ever done a productive day's work in their li
  9. Another example of the consequences of mean-spirited coalition penny-pinching. (Sorry, I meant to say 'austerity measures, vital in reducing the budget deficit'). An utterly disgusting measure, but one which surprised me, as I thought they'd gone the way of school milk many years ago !!
  10. When we visit the mother-in-law, she always have me to go to Poundland. Last time (I jest not !), she spent £73 !! Think of what she'd save if she went to 99p stores instead !

  15. Sounds a much more practical approach than talk of hanging and sinking ships - cheaper too. We've already spent enough on 'em !!
  16. My new neighbour is a Pakistani......... He goes off every day to his cash-in-hand job. His wife stays at home all day, cooking and cleaning and does everything he tells her. He 'has his way' with her whenever he wants, and beats her or the kids if they disrespect him. He also pockets £400 a week in benefits ! Bloody foreigners - coming over here, living the dream !!
  17. There once was a man from Nantucket Whose wife had a............... Maybe not !
  18. It seems to me that we face a simple choice - respect Islamic blasphemy laws (which amounts to their acceptance), or make it clear that this is a free country, and that standing up to intolerance does not make you intolerant. Choudary recently stated that 'freedom of speech has no place in Islam', which confirms my personal belief that Islam and Sharia are incompatible with the principles of democracy and freedom (notwithstanding that they use our freedoms to call for the overthrow of those same freedoms !) We cannot and must not cave in - we must not give an inch to violence or intimi

  21. I'm at a loss to offer any comment on this, but I always thought that Hindu's held cows to be sacred ? Whatever the 'why's and wherefore's', it seems pretty pointless and unnecessary, to say the least.................. WARNING - VERY GRAPHIC PICTURES !! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2852739/Nepal-devotees-sacrifice-thousands-animals-Hindu-ritual.html?ito=social-facebook
