Is it just me, or has anyone else got the feeling that they've wandered into a parallel universe............?

Who's Voting For Whom In The Next Elections ?
Blackbriar replied to foxtails's topic in General Talk
I'm sure I'm going to come across as cynical (surely not?), but this is how I see things in the mainstream. (I'm paraphrasing a bit here.................... ) Conservative = More people removed from income tax (less money for schools, hospitals, roads etc), resulting in more cuts. Tax cuts for the wealthiest. An increase in borrowing and, as a result, the national deficit - don't believe them, they haven't reduced it by a single penny and are still borrowing £220 million EVERY DAY. Europe - renegotiate the British position. European response ? NO ! CaMoron's demands would be -
'Defensive and protective of women' or maybe just ashamed that 'men' like this get men like us a very bad name ..... ??

The Inuit / Eskimoes are allowed to catch a fixed number of whales each year - it is part of their subsistence lifestyle, going back many centuries, and allowing them to survive in one of the world's most hostile terrains. They don't really have that many other food sources to exploit, after all - reindeer and seal and that's about it. In Japan, on the other hand, whale meat is sold to the very wealthy, as a rare delicacy, available only to a select few. Not really a part of mainstream Japanese culture, in fact. The Inuit are protecting a vital part of their food supply, the Japanese are

Even easier to use 'emotive words like rapist' against someone who's been convicted of rape, mind ! The circumstances don't matter - he was found guilty, end of discussion, as far as the offence is concerned. Whether he should ply his trade again is, I think, simply down to whether anyone will employ him again, given his conviction. That's the 'real world' situation the rest of us would face ................................

A diplomatic and very wise reply if I might say so ! !

I bumped into my mate Trev in the pub the other night. We had a chat, then I noticed the fella next to him, listening in - a midget with a parrot on his shoulder ! "Is he a mate of yours, Trev?" I asked. "Don't even start me !" says Trev. "He's been following me round all day. He's rude to my friends, he's embarrassed me every time he's opened his mouth. He's swore at my Mum, he's been grabbing the barmaid's tit5, picked half a dozen fights and hasn't bought a drink all night !" "So who is he?" I said. "Well," says Trev "Yesterday, I found a magic lamp. The genie popped out and said he wo

Yep and one of those responsable is making himself busy on the badger cull. The family concerned bred guinea pigs (or rabbits, one of the two) for medical research. They, and almost everyone they knew, was subjected to a long campaign of threats and intimidation, and some were even sent crude IED's ! Homes, farms and other businesses were attacked and vandalized. The old lady's body was dug up and held to ransom - the price for it's return was the closure of the farm. Several of the unwashed lunatics were arrested and one of them told police where the body was hidden. Think it wa

One of the massive Japanese corporations (Mitsubishi, if memory serves) is stock-piling blue-fin and yellow-fin tuna in huge freezers. As supplies become scarcer, the price goes up and they're hoping to make a killing - they reckon that both species will become extinct in the very near future. They hope to be in a position to sell the last ones.......... The Blue whale is the largest animal that has EVER lived - it weighs over 200 tonnes and some of it's blood vessels are so large you could swim down them - and yet, despite having few natural predators, it is endangered and facing extincti

A mate sent me this, so I can't claim any credit. Damned funny though .............. What's on Muslim TV ? 6.00: G-Had TV. Morning prayers. 8.30: Talitubbies. Talitubbies say “Eh-oh”. Dipsy and Tinky-Winky repair a Stinger missile launcher. 9.00: Shouts of Praise. More prayers. 10.00: The Apprentice. Ten young Muslims complete a variety of tasks each week – one of them will be recruited by prominent Islamist leader Muqtada al-Sadr into a top position in the Mahdi Army. 11.00: Jihad’s Army. Most other European countries also have active movements and parties, shall we say, 'much further to the right' than UKIP - Sweden, Norway, Italy, Belgium, Holland, Greece, the Balkan and former Russian states all have active and organised 'far-right' representation. ('Praps Mushroom could enlighten us about Spain..........?) There's has been a definite and steady move to the right in British politics in the last year or three, and everywhere I go, I hear deep discontent, mainly about immigration and Europe. In my view, large swathes of the public are sick and tired of the political

Tonight 9.45 - BBC2................... Sounds like one of those multiplayer, online games, but Shin Bet ("Shabak") is actually the infamous and feared Israel Security Agency - accused of torture, summary execution and political assassination of domestic Arab militants - (not to be confused with Mossad, who do the same things overseas). I don't expect it to be a fair and balanced portrayal, but it is the only time that past and present leaders of this most secretive and uncompromising government agency have been interviewed on camera. Should be interesting - their anti - terrorist

Farage thinks the Manchester result is more significant, and I'd have to agree with him (like he needs my advice !). Carswell is popular with the locals, and had a substantial majority, which always made him favourite to win. In Middleton, however, Labour had a large majority, while UKIP had little support base, no traditional local affinities and an unknown candidate. From that position, they literally came from nowhere and reduced a Labour majority of over 6,000 down to 617 - yet still Millipede had that smug grin plastered on his face ! CaMoron is clearly rattled, though. The UKIP
-
Aside from winning, Carswell actually increased his majority, taking 60% of the vote, while the LibDem's ( party of government, remember) persuaded just 487 of the good people of Clacton to venture out and support them. All 3 of the major parties lost support wholesale to UKIP. Meanwhile, up in Heywood and Middleton, a Labour majority of over 6,000 was reduced to just 617 - well below the 3,000 or so predicted. Conservative support halved, while the LibDem's, once again, faded into insignificance. While UKIP is a natural staging post for disillusioned Tories, this second result shows that
-
Polls have closed at the Clacton by - election. UKIP say they are 'confident of winning' - a victory that would see Douglas Carswell become the party's first elected MP. Some exit polls are predicting a majority as large as 10,000 ! In the Manchester seat of Middleton, Labour are expected to hold on to one of their stronghold seats, but some pundits are predicting that UKIP will take second place, possibly reducing a large Labour majority to as little as 2,000 ! Has UKIP finally 'arrived' ? With the LibDem leadership ratings in minus figures (seriously !) and Ed Millipede also being r
