  1. I shoot with a chap who was in the Parachute Regiment. He was telling me that once he was on exercise with one of the Gurkha regiments, and he and his comrades spent most of day one ribbing them about being slitty-eyed short-arses and so on......not once did any of the Gurkha respond ! When they'd had their fun, off they all went to their tents for the night........ Next morning, they woke up and almost 5hat themselves, when they realised that every one of them had had his boot laces tied together in the night ! "Mate, they could have cut our throats, and we wouldn't have known a thing abou
  2. You need a permit to trap them, not to catch them !
  3. Me and my mate catch loads - lovely curried ! After discussing it with the local Angling Association, they let us use their water, with no additional permits, as long as we only use hand lines or drop nets. Because we're not using traps, and our equipment is never left unattended, we don't need a permit from DEFRA.

  12. I'm on the verge of my first ferreting outing with the pup, and I WAS looking forward to it......... "We'll flush some rabbits..give the dog's a run........it'll be fun....." Never occurred to me that, on top of everything else, I might need a first aid kit !
  13. That's really sad, mate. Sorry for your bad news, and my sympathies to your good lady. An Irish coroner will hold a post mortem and/or inquest, which will determine a cause of death, and give her family small comfort, at least. Shows how lives change in the blink of an eye.......
  14. £4.50 for a pie.......? At Kidderminster !? The clubs (particularly Premiership sides) have a captive audience. Fans aren't going to decide to follow the club down the road because they offer better value, so the clubs can charge pretty much what they like ! I think the clubs should remember that the people who attend matches are fans, not customers, to be exploited to the point where they are priced out of the stadium !
  15. Annual survey reveals the true cost of following your favourite team..... Price of Football: Most ticket prices frozen or reduced - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/34531731
  16. Is it Rinder (rhymes with tinder), or Rinder (rhymes with grinder) ? And which of those apps does he use most........?
  17. It was 12 bottles of wine.......in a country that absolutely forbids alcohol - a fact that is pretty much common knowledge ! If he didn't know that, then he should have made it his business to find out about local customs and laws, and more importantly the penalties for breaking them. If he broke the law knowingly, well........ If we don't respect foreign laws (however silly they may seem to us), how can we ask others to respect ours.......?
  18. I lost interest in football years ago..... I think I prefer the days when players could really get stuck in - the kind of matches where the likes of Billy Bremner and Ron Harris didn't make tackles, they claimed victims ! And the ref (usually Clive Thomas) would shake his head and wave the fallen player to get up and stop mucking about ! Now, you only have to look at them sideways and they go down like there's a sniper in row 30...
  19. Make your own - that way you can make it to fit your hand and shooting style. Off-cuts of 18mm ply are pretty easy to get hold of from your local DIY superstore. You can cut the bands or tubes to exactly the right length and you will get a warm glow of satisfaction when you take your first game with a catty you made yourself ! Try it ! But beware - it's infectious !!
  20. Find a local club, or a good gunsmith, where you can try out as many as different rifles as possible, in the different calibres. (Give us your rough location, and one of us might be able to point you in the right direction.....) If you're finding it hard to get permissions, or you don't have a large garden, you'll definitely need a club to 'keep your eye in'. Once you chosen a rifle that's within your budget, decide on new or used, bearing in mind that a new rifle will probably need to have a scope, bag etc added to the cost........ From there, its a matter of practise, practise, pract
  21. Perhaps not exactly what you're looking for, but I like to watch anything with Jack Hargreaves - YouTube has loads of stuff. "The Hounds and the Huntsman" is a fabulous bit of film, too.
