  4. Check out the nikon monarch range mate.... i have the 8 x 42 as they were recommended to me by a friend, and he uses leica, for the money they are totally excellent.. and about your price bracket..... they are excellent in low light, and i can see all he can at a fraction of the price.... Snap.
  5. sadly don't see any like that in the wild here... nice mate.... Snap.
  6. personally too much light is as bad as it scares foxy if you cannot dim the brightness, i prefer the 170 striker.... good to 600m Snap.
  7. scrambled egg breakie then ian.... hehe nice one... Snap.
  8. Snap - you and me both. I learned to shoot long range with aperture sights. As you know, you can't "aim off". Dial it in, boy, dial it in. As I said above, KISS. I don't want all this crap in my field of view . . . Looks like a fixed mag scope, around 12x, 1/4 MOA/click turrets is gonna be my best bet. Back to where I started from. Now, if you want to talk maker I've taken a lot of long shots with a camera. Nikon make some classy 'scopes . . . and they always were the best glass . . . Ric personally think your away of the mark going for a fixed mag due to the range variations
  9. cheers clayman, oh it is off the shelf but had a little dressing up....!!!!! the action is off a tikka M595 stainless, which i couldn't part with...hehe it was just to good, the barrel is a border archer finished at 24.5 inches, chambered for .243 win. screw cut, bead blasted, invisable thread protector. Stock is a mc millian A5 tactical.... piller bedded and devcon bedded. original trigger, stone ground and polished, to break at 1 3/4 lbs. So you see it is off the shelf. just a few different shelves......haha it shoots very well...... five sh
  10. If thats the case i'd recommend a fine duplex ret. With a good set of turrets, like the m1 range on leupold... or nightforce range. varmint ret. will be too cluttered for extended range i find.... Snap.
  11. Cheers guys, looking forward to getting out a bit more...... Snap.
  12. the vx111 leupold is one of the main contenders in long range shooting, and not to be sneezed at, also look as the zesis conquest range, i have the leupold LR/T mark 4 wih the M1 turrets nd i wouldn't change it... i find it excellent... Theres just so much to choose from... lol good luck. Snap.
  13. i could suggest a few nightforce, leupold either vx111 or LR/T 6.5 x 20 x 50.... plenty of elevation in both the leupold ranges suggested... ATB. Snap.

  16. place the venison in a bowel of milk, half way up the roast or joint, soak the evening before cooking and turn occassionaly, this will help.... Also a high heat for the first 20 to 30 minutes then turn the oven down to slow cook.... let us know how it goes.... ATB. Snap.
  17. Kay, do you ever work now you lazy mare................... lol ATB. Snap.
  18. Well after the long travel to the stalking grounds and the rain falling like fine mist we waited, Would god grace us with a dry stalk.... not likely it seemed So as we made our way up the field we could see nothing with the misty fogging up the bino's, We spotted a few fallow making their way to the forrest as the rain got heavier and they vanished through the ditch. We walked up to the top of the field and glassed the boundry turning left we headed across the top the the field the forrest to our right, crossed into the second field kinda overgrown with a long path between the trees
  19. hi kay, not been on here for a while internet problems.... see your still out and about.... lovely shots.. Snap.
  20. i wouldn't do it mate, there are slight differences in the specs, And also the brass in the 5.56 is thicker, leading to smaller volume dimensions.... it also has a higher working pressure than the .223 sammi specs, you could give yourself headache.... stick to the rounds the gun was chambered for.. and save yourself some grief... ATB Snap.
  21. thanks mate, all i can say is time spent on the range pays of in the field... i neck shot 1 last year at 228 yards i think it was, droped instantly..... goes with the old saying bullet placement is key to a humane kill..... ATB... Snap.

  23. Alright mate, As the pricket was spooked and walking, i really did'nt have time to faf about the bi-bods were not adjusted high to get above the grass and rushes, and the mag never changed from 6.5, i would normally zoom in if i had time on the shot, to say 12 or 14 power... thanks for the replies guys. Snap.
