  1. i'm sure little sounder jnr... got his fair share too of course... nice to see you also bagged a red wag... they take some effort to get them outta the hill don't they....!!!!!!!!! how much did the airport charge for handling it................. ATB. Snap.
  2. .308, factory rifle only one answer really, TRG22 really really accurate, and excellent barrel life in .308... look for second hand in the recession, and plop your N/F scope on it, maybe a little above your budget, but an excellent gun for long range.... take a look for a deal. i've seen a few at really good money, i'll keep my eye open for one .... Snap.
  3. Excellent stuff there guys, What can i say only i'm off out........ didn't think i'd get up at this crazy hour for nothing..... Well done sounder, top bloke....
  4. ohhhhhhhh very handy kay....... So you'll be my no 1 source of info.... i managed to switch it on a minute ago..... lol good to know... Snap.
  5. cheers toni.... could be in the bin in 6 months....... Snap.
  6. Ran the load through "Quickload" the results stated that the load was near max chamber pressure and that tolerances would produce dangerous pressures. It's likely that the two rifle chambers were / are different, the load might be safe in one rifle but in the other not so, and in my experience Howa rifles have tight chambers! Temperature can and will effect chamber pressures. Data for the above is 3909 bar with a MV of 3273. A reduction to 43 grains would produce a MV of 3204 and a chamber pressure of 3648 bar, my advice would be to reduce to 43 grains, the load would still be deer legal.
  7. Was it a custom tube put on by any chance....????????? Snap.
  8. Well truely gone and done it now..... just went out a bought a cannon eos 1000d and the works to go with it, only got the standard lens 18-55 As i couldn't afford the rest..... look out for some seriously boring, newbie questions along the way..... looking forward to getting out there and seeing what i can achieve.. of course after i read the block they call a manual (not) ATB. Snap.
  9. The only other two things i can think off is that, operator error is one, And if the case was hard to load (chamber) then the howa could have a tighter throat, hence the case doesn't need to expand as much leading to a build up in pressure within the case.... i'd work up the load from scratch again.... ATB. Snap.
  10. 1) change in brass, internal volumes will differ, 2) change in the seating depth of the bullet. 3) Were all brass full length sized before using in the new gun.... this could lead to your stuck case incident...... 4) change in any one component means you rework a new load. 5) check scales to see that its measuring a constant powder weight.... 6) tumbling media will have no effect on the case pressure as its only a cleaning routine... ATB. Snap.
  11. i really think that if the bullet is nearly on the weight range of stabalization within the calibre, then it should be tested to all ranges its going to be used at, just because a bullet shoots well at 100 doesn't mean to say it will be good at extended ranges.... A bullet which is keyholing at 200 is in fact yawing in flight, maybe not noticable at 100 but it is not stable. great thread this... ATB. Snap.
  12. Not in scotland or wales........ or so i'm led to believe.....!! for the smaller species only though i think... But then again i could be wrong..... ATB. Snap.
  13. Perhaps now, after you've posted a reply here now you all might put your hands in your wallets and throw a few quid to the cause.... Snap.
  14. You simply will not beat a sak for the money on your .22lr Snap.
  15. hill for hind culling, the 6.5 can handle that job with ease, well i hope the posts were of a little help to you... ATB. Snap.
  16. Gordon ramsey goes stalking in scotland................ after the break Now on channel four..... Snap.
  17. Personally, there is nothing wrong with the Remmingtons (I have a 700 Tactical in 22.250 but much modified). Having said that all rifles are a bit like cars - two people can buy a Ford Focus, one has no problems the other nothing but problems. Given the choice in your situation I would look more seriously at the Sako - generally a better build. Why on earth are you changing from 6.5 to 270? The 6.5 is only about 1.5" lower at 200 yards and a much sweeter calibre to shoot. I tried the 270 then the 6.5 - still with the 6.5 Sako will have the quality edge, but in saying that noth
  18. Well done. hope all's well with both. Snap.
  19. i'd say you were nearly right, my thinking would tend to be that the bullet was tumbling in flight or yawing slightly, due to not enough stabilization... i'd take this load to the range after seeing this happen, pin a target tight to a cardboard box, not wood, as the splinters make a mess of the paper... then fire a few rounds, i know 1-10 is borderline sometimes shooting these weights.... and i couldn't get them to shoot in my 1 in 10 once you fire at the cardboard box, try to flatten the paper back into the hole, it should form a fairly clean entry circle.... if it hit and t
  20. personaly i'd not be happy with 1" group in the .204, it should be grouping nearly 1/4 inch with a good load... Also the .204 is a fast flat round and the bore snake will not cut the mustard, and excessive use will mess up your barrel, get yourself a good dewy rod and a bore guide, some kg products, or similar, hoppes no 9 is good, also.. do not keep the forrest bore foam in too long as it contains ammonia, and could damage your barrel if left in for prolonged periods..... you need a good cleaning routine otherwise you'll see your accuracy really go downhill... reloader 10
  21. Martin i have to say there looks to be a problem with that 100g sp.... didn't expand at all, and no mushroom effect.... very strange, thanks for the pic.. Now We all know the damage varminting round can cause, and they are not designed for deer use... So why use them....??? Too much loss of meat..... intresting pics... never seen a 100g sp do that ever.... ATB. Snap.
  22. cheers marie.... you eating any venison yet yourself, kick that man of yours out to get some..... lol ATB. Snap.
  23. yeah, lovely shots, like spy jumping through the bracken....
  24. Well after been practically house bound due to heavy rain this last few weeks, i decided it was time to hit the stalking grounds, Headed of at 4-50 Am for the long drive, My stalking mate driving this time It was looking like it was going to be a cracking morning, Arrived at the first grounds slightly before dawn, a little to late as most of the deer had scarpered back into the forrest. After checking the wind we walked up the long narrow lane, and spotted a doe and calf in the middle of the field, the wind had changed to variable, and the doe winded us and made of narking loudly..
