  2. Well, after trying all week to get out stalking the weather was a no go all week, So this morning very early we headed off for the 2 1/2 hour drive in the pouring rain the weather started to settle a little and we were hoping the fallow would make an appearence as they don't like the wet windy weather.........We stalked up the fields only to be confronted by about 25 deer, and made our way gently to a shootable position. The deer were scattered all over the field and the stalk was tough.........We spotted a young buck about 120 yards away and crawled in on our bellies, in the saturated grass

  11. yes indeed, but at long range they just sit there all brave until you put a round through them, which at range is most satisfying..........
  12. excellent links there mate............... lets all chip in and we'll buy a helicopter..............
  13. nickel are nice and shiney, thats about it, the nickel cases are very hard to work in the full length sizing and neck sizing, plus they tend to split the necks very easy once reworked a few times i don't know what caused this maybe the hardness of the nickel, but thats just my observation's.....better of with brass........
  14. anything you can do with the swift you can do with the .223, more bullet choice, longer barrel life, what more needs to be said........
  15. Nice one paddy..........good to see your getting a few...........
  16. Have a good day mate.................
  17. Woz 58 g v-max i use 42.9 grains of varget and velocity is just shy of 3700fps....... Now i say the .223 and .243 are where its at here....... As said shot placement and all is well, Now however if your going foxing and can achieve good shots at distance then the .243 will give you better range and chance of a kill on long range foxy, if your skilled at long range shots already then .243 will give you the edge to broaden your limits, if your shooting within the 300 yards and happy at that then the .223 is under consideration........ Rifle calibre and model, maker, selection is
  18. but there no deer here at all snap it 60 mile to where the deer are he never wondered that far,he seem to tame i walk up the field within 20yards from it before it moved 60 miles is not a problem to the red deer sounder thats way the place is full of them,in 2 days i've tracked deer ranging over 14 miles into a town where they never where only a few days ago, saw 2 hinds and a young stag......in one year over three areas which never had deer beside me now have them.........keep the safety on till the numbers rise and then have some fun, unless he's causing damage..........
  19. paddy firstly you need to get land with deer on to shoot over this land has to be roughly around 60 to 100acres or more, simply fill out the names of the landowners and area the land is in the size and the folio number of th land then apply for the deer hunting licence if you already have a gun or get a friends gun on the application. normally takes a few weeks at this time of year. now if you have no gun then put a deposit on one and send of to the garda for an fac. Where are you in the country...........to see if we can get you a gun......also would recommend the .243 if you are an accom
  20. best group at 100 yards with the hmr is 1/4 inch 5 shot group, normally hovering around 3/4 to 1/2 inch...... good luck with it.........
  21. maybe he has wondered off after the rut to get a patch of his own, he's a fine animal hope they get time to breed, reds are known to roam, whereas fallow and sika tend to stay close to the area they where born in........
