  1. I remember that They were in an evidence bag, or an evidence bag also got thrown out at the time. I should have rephrased my argument and included the Gardai as a source of illegal firearms
  2. The opinion is not the problem, its how its made. IMHO Yes, the assertion that a bigger calibre gives you more room for mistake is a fair one, it generally does. But being told we know nothing doesn't really win friends and influence people And the original point, now somewhat murky in the mists of tangential abuse, was about whether 243 or 6.5, we're saying 243 kills everything and is commonplace and cheap, so does the job. By all means cube everyone is free to their opinion and entitled to it, it's just when jibs and sly comments are put up, it's doing the member who aske
  3. right lads, i think for a pair of new members on here you should treat people with a little bit of respect.............. Simply take on board whats said at make a reply without insulting people otherwise you may get no help on here when you need it most.... DEBATE is never a bad thing but throwing jibs and comments to the wind is doing you no favours................ AND remember opinions are like assholes everyone has one......................

  7. I made that statement i and stand by it.......because it was my fault and not that of the gun...or calibre, it was neckshot with 70g blitzkings, and droped, the bullet exploded on impact, and i know it was a dreadfull mistake but the deer was dispatched quickly in about 5 mins after it was found..... Since then i have used 95grain sst's and 95 grain nosler partition's......... On all species of irish deer, And guess what i've never missed a deer in my life!!! This is true and i vouch for the life of my family on it...... i was simply making a statement which i found out to be true without
  8. 14. Failing that the nikon monarch range are also excellent for the money, i use them 8x42, in all light conditions can't fault them, as said about the rest it would take serious money to find a difference.............
  15. If you take a heart lung shot, providing the animal hasn't seen you it will just walk around in a dazed fashion until it drops, if it's adrenalin is up and has spoted you at some time in the stalk then there is a good chance it will run, follow it quietly and keep your eyes peeled.... But differing land will have differing needs to the stalk, remember the decision is yours. A blood trail will help but do you always get a blood trail everytime you fire with a larger calibre, not in my experience, depends where the bullet entered and what it hit on the way through, i shoot 95 grain sst for all

  17. very intresting post this, i've read on some american site, of hunters taking whitetail deer at ranges in excess of 400 yards with a .243, and we all have our own limiting factors, That being how we rate our own shooting skills...... after all its our decision to make sure we pull the trigger or not..... i was not happy with a neck shot at the distance the calf was at on the weekend stalk hence a heart lung shot......but i knew my bullet drop at was happy to take the shot, the calf a fallow of good weight droped like a stone, nothing pays dividends like time on the range and building up our

  23. Very constructive comments paddy, Now just one thing on the stalking front if you are shooting with a .243, Once you pull the trigger, If in the heart and lung area, And the animal doesn't drop right away, STAY DOWN and conceled, if the animal does not see a threat the it won't run, IF you think the shot was poor, get ready to take another, The ammount of people who i see pull the trigger and hope up to see the animal is crazy, and needless to say don't get stalking again. Build up your skills at close ranges and then take the shot from a little futher away when you build confidence common
