why would 100% mark up enable you to offer any better customer service to 30% or a 1% mark up its the same concept as saying a bank loan over 1 year is say 4.9% interest but a short term loan from a pay day loan company needs to charge over 1000% interest to offer the same customer service, Employee’s wages, business premises and other overheads have to come from somewhere. Even charitable organisations can’t live on fresh air. so that mean that everyone in business marks up 100% most manufacturing in the uk always worked on thirds, 1 third raw material, 1 third manufacturin

Before retirement I ran a very competitive and successful business for over thirty years. My business model included a minimum of 100% mark up on bought in goods. Did I rip people off? No I didn’t, the mark up enabled me to provide the first class service my customers expected. Why should someone who is enterprising enough to trade in second hand air rifles be vilified? No one is forcing prospective customers to trade with their company. If you don’t like the terms and conditions, go somewhere else. Personally I think this thread needs terminating as all it is doing is attracting rebel-rousi

Anybody Got A Mtc Viper 8-32X60
A1WOC replied to Stuart1985's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
The big magnification/objective lens scope is heavy with a short depth of field (DOF) and better suited to range finding in Field Target use. When hunting you don’t always have the time to make parallax adjustment and a scope with a good depth of field can be an advantage. The smaller the objective lens the better the DOF and 10x magnifications is more than enough for air rifle hunting. MTC and many other reputable brands make a good range that's suitable for most air rifles, keep it lightweight with a good DOF and you won’t go far wrong. Regards, Steve -
For whatever reason Si requested his ban on Hunting Life; other members should honour his wishes. Yes, we all miss his invaluable input to the forum and also the HFT gatherings he organised. When and if he is ready to resume his mentor role it is best for him to make the decision himself without being pressured to return. Regards, Steve PS My best wishes Si to you, Laura and Dylan.

Are you plinking on your own property or competition FT/HFT shooting? The former, you would be better buying a good quality spring power rifle and a tin of branded pellets; it will take a little effort on your part to learn the required technique to shoot accurate but will be rewarding when you do. The latter, you would be better joining a club and trying other member’s rifles before deciding what suits you best. Don’t forget to budget for air filling accessories if you buy a pre charge! Regards, Steve

Not another “Friend” that’s going to pip me to a medal position when we compete at HFT; I may as well pack in now! Nice one

I have a Viper Connect in my kit; it’s a great little lightweight scope with decent optics. It isn’t fitted to a rifle at the moment as I much prefer the very fine reticle of the Hawke Panorama for HFT and daylight hunting alike. I will probably fit it on my hunting rifle along with the NiteSite now the nights are drawing in as the side focus is easier to use with the NiteSite than the AO of the Panorama. Regards, Steve

Cracking bit of kit Darryl, very reliable too. Had one myself up to my retirement a few years ago and used it for SCUBA diving excursions, travelled country wide and clocked up many miles without any problems. The only thing that let mine down was it was heavy on tyres, they aren’t cheap either! Look forward to seeing it at the next HLF meet. Regards, Steve

Made a start on the man cave this week; the base is down, the entrance door erected and a garage full of materials to complete the job as soon as the rain abates, watch this space! Regards, Steve.

Hw100T Or Hw100Kt?
A1WOC replied to Max Yells-James's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Shot count with the carbine is less than the standard length but nothing to choose between for accuracy, the carbine is a little easier to tote around in the field, if pushed, personally I would say the standard length feels a little more stable for HFT; and also when unsupported standing shots are taken, but both are beautifully balanced. Don’t be paranoid about the weight difference as you will get used to either. Only fit an aftermarket lighter weight air cylinder for the extra shot count if needed, but quite honestly you have more than enough available good shots for a field shoot or HFT. -
Excellent choice, reversible, good value too and they are good out to 55m if you hit them centrally. I have a gallery set at 40m, I spray paint them occasionally to keep the spinners high vis and use a paving slab as a back stop. They are great for practice/plinking and fun along with a mixture of other knock down targets I have on my own range. Regards, Steve

Common problem, I’ve had to do several of my HW100’s due to the barrel turning when fitting or removing the moderator, Remove the stock, remove the air cylinder, take note of the barrel orientation in the breech, remove the small angled barrel retaining locking bolt (allen key) on the underside, pull out barrel from breech, thoroughly clean barrel end and inside breech, assemble dry and tighten up locking nut when the barrel is correctly orientated into breech, refit cylinder and stock; simples. I’ve not been active on the magpie scene for a few months now due to other commitments, but after recently discussing with my neighbour Sue, the ever increasing local magpie population, we thought it was time to take appropriate action. Once again proving magpies are their own worst enemy; I took one out from the top of Sues oak tree at 7.45 this morning, pegged it out on my lawn and half an hour later another one bites the dust. Pegged that one out too and a little later two more arrived, unfortunately I wasn’t ready for them and they had flown by the time I reached my vantage point.

It must be great to be able to take pheasants without looking over your shoulder to see who's around. Here on mainland we wouldn’t dream of shooting pheasant with an air rifle, would we? Regards, Steve

This morning Eileen only remembers agreeing to the man cave bit; I may have to work a little magic for the other two at a later date, it’s a great start though! Regards, Steve

Very Quiet Pellet Trap / Backstop
A1WOC replied to dangerousdan's topic in General Airgun Discussion
I use a 2x2 concrete paving slab backstop; hit Square on it absorbs the impact without any ricochets and is quiet too. Regards, Steve -
Seeing the sun shining in a clear sky inspired me mow the lawn and tidy up the garden. As I was walking up to my shed at the top of the garden for the tools, I heard the cry of a solitary buzzard, looking skyward I saw it glide into a tree about two hundred yards away, a little later I saw and heard it’s mate circling overhead. That was the start of my day. Partway through my chores my wife Eileen and I were invited by our neighbour Sue to join her for a coffee. As we relaxed enjoying the refreshments I was reminded by Sue that the local magpie population had increased due to a second or p

To set up the scope to suit your own eyesight, look through the scope at the open sky; adjust the eye piece lens (ocular lens) to achieve the best clarity to produce a sharp reticle image. Once the ocular lens is set to you own optical vision it doesn’t require altering. Use the front adjustable objective lens only to focus on your subject at the various distances. Regards, Steve

I think we have the same outlook Daz about helping the up and coming young air gunners. I loaned a Hawke scope to a youngster a few months ago. http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/289787-rusty-old-77/ When he returned it I said I no longer have a use for it and he could keep it if he wanted, he was grateful too as he had only returned it because he felt obligated to and was too embarrassed to say was he couldn’t afford a new one. I must admit, had I known at the time my grandson had an interest in shooting I would have kept the scope. I too believe in what goes around comes around
