  1. I had one of thoses as a boy/teenager great dog, she still Alive but very old too old to work. She would catch rats, rabbits, hares but only by stalking them. She would lamp rabbits an hares and even took a few foxes, grey squirrel She would catch pheasant and partridges effortlessly and the occasional pigeon When out mooching she would catch more birds than mammals great little dog. I don't know if she was just a one off or if they all work Like that but she was a great little dog in her day, but then as a teenager she was out everyday all day. She measured 19tts.   4. What sort of lamp are you using? I am using a lightforce 170 and the batterys last 2 hours max that's with 2 batterys 7 amp. Hopefully have a li ion soon
  5. Just had the dog out ferreting and caught 4 out of 5 runners that bolted out if un- netted holes. Hope he can make it in the lamping game

Hi yeah I have been taking him out on windy nights and have been near enough on top of the rabbit before letting him go but just not connecting last night he chased one from the middle of the field to end and back again and still didn't catch. Al keep at with him.Do you think the type of ground could be easier as running him on cattle pasture at the min? Tried some soft farm ground but the rabbits were abit lamp shy and forgot the filter. Thanks for the comments guys atb yes rabbits are nippy on there mate ya dogs only young mate best option is a slightly rough field where the rabbit can't r

  10. Hi merry Xmas all, I have a saluki whippet greyhound 16 months old 23" tts out ferreting can't fault him, marks stays alert, obedient, etc. Catches daytime bunnies no problem. When i take him out on the lamp he cant catch anything, I am giving him easy slips on sitters way out from cover and getting as close as I can to give him a chance but he can't seem to connect with them he either overshoots them or when he had chance to grab them doesn't. Is it down to him being young still? I know he has a hell of alot of learning to do but shorly he should have got one by now on the l
  11. I have the tracer 170 variable was out the other night and dimmer circuit board went up in smoke. Rewired and it's just a on off lamp now no variable. The dimmer takes a while to operate. A lot better without imo Good beam for lamping with lurchers
  12. My saluki whippet grey is having the same problems at min when lamping just preserving at min giving him time. Obedience is spot on just keeps overshooting and the occasional yap, trying to give him only easy runs but he isn't connecting just overshooting all time. Giving him time to find his feet hopefully should click.

  14. The only thing that should be shot is pigeon, game birds, corvids and grey squirrel. Everything else should be man and hound

Don't forget deerhounds and there crosses arent mature until at least 18 months or maybe more, give the pup time and enjoy it not every dog is taking hare, deer, fox etc by 9 months of age don't get reading about others who say theres is taking all quarry by this age. All dogs are different. Atb
  18. Sounds like you could do with a good lurcher to catch them bolters, but it's not all about numbers I just enjoy being out and working the dogs and ferrets. Sounds Like you enjoyed yourself.
