  1. All that % catch rate stuff is bollox IMO, too many variables to judge a dog on it. The dog can either catch or it can't. It's up to you to ensure you are doing all you can to make a dog both ready and quarry available. Then when all's done, you'll see if a dog can catch or not and you'll judge it on performance not percentages.

As a kid my mate had a big rangy Deerhoundy type that could swim like an otter and retrieve ducks, geese an anything else that we'd bladder from the opposite bank with our 4.10's. When 'ol Jet died, we had to make do with a cod hook...

  10. But that can also come down to the skill of the owner on how he enters the dog to each of its quarry ... If it's rushed then the most potential of dogs could be spoiled and if held back the full potential may never come to the forefront ... Obviously you get bad dogs as with all things in life but I was talking about guys that continually swap sell buy new dogs ... Every dog they have had can't be a bad dog surely ??? .............. You sound like my old adversary Crow..... No matter how 'careful' you enter the dog, one day you aint there to hold his hand. I totally agree ... But don't you

  13. JF hails from the same city as me, and though we've always moved in different circles and rarely has our paths ever crossed, I do know how much he has done over the years, he certainly has 'walked the walk', so this book should be a bloody good read, its one i will be getting for sure... Best of luck with it Joe.
  14. The only method i've known to work is constant success. Make sure you are in the best speck, with a fit as a fiddle dog and give it the best of chances with every run. It runs, it catches, it comes back, give it enough of this and it'll soon 'click' that the best way is your way and not it's own...
  15. Bloody hell Baw, it only a bit of crack matey.......no need to let it all flood out !! That's just what Markbrick said...!
  16. . I wouldn't bother parting with any information in the future LL all you get is griping. Any way. !! I know where your coming from big fella but it makes it a real shame for me. Thing is, its the terrier section thats really dying on here and to many, including myself, its the most interesting bit. . Feck the knockers, fools that they are! Post on your subject, write what makes it interesting and keep this corner of the THL alive! Working terrier history, the breeding, the men and the dogs, it should never be lost...
  17. . You know loads of cowboys BO !!!!
  18. There is one or two in the US that hunt this way. Don't know anyone over hear that does it but i would find it interesting if someone had enough land at their disposal to hunt across on horseback to lurchers and tell us what they do?
  19. Yep, had a couple of goes now and it's easy enough, a damn sight better than anything you'll buy too...
  20. Baw, why don't you just log on as Baw, it's open for you..?
  21. Damn shame that Vin. Good ferrets, to those that rely on 'em so much, are worth their weight in gold. I wouldn't worry about that micro ferret, give it to Tomo to work and it'll always look micro..! Onwards and upwards eh, life's too short an all that...
