    Not another animal I have seen will do the job a deerhound is made for in the hill ground in Scotland, some of the land is hard enough to walk on, rock faces waist high heather hard land for a dog to run for 20 mins then take on a red. You will never find one now but a proper old school deerhound be as hard and game as anything going, they would need to be to do the job. On the other hand using them on the low land fields they are big not got the pace and agility of the lighter made greyhound x lurchers. I have had them and used them, smaller bitches the best chance.

    This happend to someone I know, buzzard picked them up from neighbouring shoot and dropped them at his place. Possibly had a go at the guts before it got spooked

    I had a bitch that lost hair on back legs every now and again, vet reckons it was a condition called g/hound hair loss disorder that she suffered from due to the amount of g/hound in her make up

    Small britches can throw big offspring. Size of the dam or sire don't really make any difference you need a dam that throws small offspring. I got a 32" bitch from her 27" dam but on the other hand I know a small bitch that throws small, unless your going to carry on a line for generations size is a game of chance

    Had a couple of good days on them, I try shoot them at good range normally I get them coming in for a look and try shoot them before they get suspicious. I use 6 flocked decoys a few pigeons and a magpie decoy, sit one on the crow up on a fence post, normally they always have one acting as a lookout

    Look at half the retards that walk about with lurchers, you just need to look at some of the posts and topics on THL if I was a keeper I would give no one permission, last thing you want is lurchers running about around pheasant pens and in with sheep and other livestock. I know a keeper that's a die hard dog man, he has a very good job on a good shoot, if he gave me permission to run my dogs he would get the sack. It's no easy for they guys lads.. Best thing to do is don't ask just do it ;-)
