  1. I might get my own soon , I always thought it was a bit “anorakish” and I suppose it is a bit . But I have really taken an interest in getting the most out of my guns and a chronograph is something I can see me getting soon . Thanks for the offer .?
  2. Hi David, I use 25.7g of Vihtavuori 135 with 50 g vmax . Although it doesn’t say it on the data , that’s close to a compressed load , I couldn’t get another grain in the case . I’ve not got it on a chronograph, but I would think It’s around 3500 FPS . I got it cloverleafing at 100meters with a flyer that was down to me . I’ve had a fox at 251 meters with my NV and just aimed straight at it . It’s difficult to say what they are doing in my Tikka but I’ve got a Brno in .223 with a day scope on it and they are shoot flat to about 300 meters. I haven’t bothered testing any further. The
  3. The shoot is about 1500 acres and I would say I’ve done a good job of keeping their numbers down but you know the old saying ( kill one fox and two come to the funeral) is fairly true . You just create a vacuum and nature soon fills it . You just have to keep vigilant and keep a rifle with you and put the hours in at night .There will soon be another one to take his place at the table .
  4. I just shoot resting on the dash of the ATV . I can brace my elbow on my knee and it’s incredibly stable . I’ve got a bipod on my .223 With the NV . But I’m resisting the urge to put a bipod on the .243 because it gets in the way when I shoot off sticks or fence posts . I forgot to mention that this is the first fox I’ve shot with this rifle . I’ve got it with me all the time but I’ve not seen a fox in enough light before . I do most of my fox shooting with the .223 at night. I had wanted to see how my home loads killed and all I can say is it dropped on the spot and there was no exit wound
  5. If you chuckled and didn’t immediately want to smash the screen in disgust you are probably just like the rest of us on this forum......“normal”?
  6. I spend my evenings going around the pens checking that there are no problems and that all the fencers are working. I’ve always got a rifle with me and these days it’s my Tikka .243 loaded with Sierra Blitzkings 70grn . I’m really enjoying shooting this rifle and pop of crows and jackdaws (Meece don’t even go there ) as I practice at different ranges . This evening I finished my rounds and was sat looking up a large bank/ valley . I was loading a joke onto the general section as it happens and I looked up from my iPhone and spotted Charlie trotting from left to right at about 150 mete
  7. A mate uses them in his release pen . He has made sort of little shelters with a corrugated tin roofs and has them hanging inside .
  8. In my day RF 100% shot with a DT10 . I remember seeing him with it back in the day and admiring it . I think he won his Olympic gold using it . Love the look of that Kemen . ? I’ve learnt my lesson and am sticking with my MK38, it’s 32 inch barrels with Teague chokes . The gun used to belong to Mikey Rouse , now there’s a nome from the past !!?
  9. They are lovely guns . ?? Richard Faulds has done ok with his ! Did you get that cos Fauldsie had one ?
  10. I always fancied a DT10 , a superb clay gun IMO . The Perazzi was nice though , can’t fault the V spring triggers , like silk !
  11. I fell into the “must have” trap years ago , and chopped in my trusty old MK38 for a Perazzi MX8 because George Digweed had one and if it’s good enough for George then it will definitely improve my scores . In short it didn’t, in fact it took ages before I got back to where I had been with my Miroku. Then he went over to Kemen , and I started to think , maybe I should get a Kemen ? To cut a long story short I’m back to a MK38 and I’m just happy being a mediocre clay shot .
  12. I’ve got to say I find threads on what calibre is the best have been done to death. But the more I here about the .204 I reckon I could give one a bit of room in my gun cabinet .
  13. I get Sporting Rifle magazine and the latest issue dropped through letter box the other day . It’s foxing “expert” Mike Powell has written an article about his new custom built 204 . An interesting read .
  14. Everyone I know has done that except me . I used to help the old keeper before I took this shoot on and would work on the pens , putting in pop holes and general repairs The old twat used to find it hilarious to put the fencer on while I was working and watch me jump and curse . I got paranoid to the extent that I used to remove and hide the unit in a bush , before he could zap me . What is it with old farm worker types , and they all seem to delight in causing pain , or playing practical jokes with shit .
  15. They are the best I’ve used , I can highly recommend them . They’ve been around for years .
  16. I use the mosquito fencers . They run very well off car batteries. They just push in on their own earth bar . They also have indicator lights that tell you if you have a poor line or the battery is running low on juice. And I can tell you from personal experience it’s like being tasered when you touch one . I get mine from Collins nets . Most of the keepers I know use them .
  17. I couldn’t agree more . Deer shooting is a chore . I get absolutely no pleasure out of dealing with deer . However I do get satisfaction taking genuine stalkers out and putting them on the deer . You can see how much it means to some people and helping others have a good trip is always rewarding .
