  1. good question spindolero i have seen dogs genuinely loseing foxes changing grip and then i have seen dogs having excuses made for them like o he dident get the right grip or the fox had him by the leg or the ground is too rough, the truth is the lurcher either has it or hasent , give the dog a fair chance and if its no good its no good thats it and always remember its as easy to feed a good one as a bad one.

  5. hi cwn-hela I was just reading over your post again and it got me thinking about when we got our first hound a harrier aswell, this was not funny at the time but we have laughed about it many times since. it was in the mid 80s and myself and 3 friends hunted togher started of with a couple of terriers and a lurcher and we were doing well a couple of foxes every day, but then the greed set in because back then fox pelts were making £26 and we were working for about £20 a day. so we started lamping and beat cover for foxes i would have beat with a couple of terriers and a old springer x colli

  8. good question big e. witch type of collie is right because now of days they are so many, border collies berdie collies rough collies show collies, even dancing collies what the f--k next. i think every lurcher needs a little bit of collie in it somewhere. but you need a hard worker a sheep dog will not do, sheep men and trail men dont want a dog that will nip a sheep that stands its ground you loose points for that, you need a good cattle dog one that can stand his ground go in and nip a cow and keep the presure on when they need to. my best friends father had a heard of milking cattle they ha

  10. hi lads i think this could be down to stress, i have been keeping terriers a long time and this hase never happened to me until last year. i built new kennels and runs for the terriers there are about 2 1/2ft wide x 6 ft long 4 runs together 1 large kennel diveded by 1/2 ply, and the 2 bitches i bred since have started to loose hair a couple of weeks before they are ready to pup, i think its because they can hear and see the other terriers so close to them.i move the bitches a week before they are ready to pup into a barn and they all do well, it just dosent look good when people are vewing

  15. very good reply whippet99. the only thing different that we would do is to use a garden fork instead of the spade the young dog can see the quarry and work it without getting too much stick. this is also great for teaching young hounds to mark.
