    Badgers

I read in an old shooting magazine where a fox stalked a cat sitting up top of a fencing stake then jumped up and knocked the cat off and killed it. It depends how hungry they are I suppose or if they have young nearby. I seen a badger and fox fighting at the mouth of an earth when I was a young lad. The fox was hell bent on entering earth but badger was in entrance blocking it. I thought at the time when the fox was so aggressive that it had cubs in there but badger was claiming the earth. There was full battle and fur flying so I think the fox wouldn't look for that challenge unless somethi
  5. I can see Lidl or Aldi eventually selling gortex boots for under 100. I'd imagine it will eventually become the norm for all boots to be gortex. There would be a large market there for a work boot that would stay dry. They are already doing a waterproof sock similar to seal skinz for less than a tenner. I remember my dad getting a (new on the market)Coleman 1 million candle halogen lamp and 18 amp lead battery pack with metal case 25 plus years ago and it was 300 pound delivered to Ireland.Battery was very little different from any motorbike for 20 pound and lamp was similar to any headlight a
  6. I liked the idea of it having a varied diet I think they grow lot of their feed as well. I think they need a sprinkle of meal for protein or they won't gain size and will be too slow to grow (the same with turkeys , apples will flavour meat) but if a large portion of their diet is varied like left over dinners from restaurants then it's enough to enhance flavour. Like I said earlier I was never a big fan of supermarket pork chops but the semi organic Tamworth's I reared you would eat the tops of your fingers off in a rush to eat it.
  7. I remember talking to a gundealer who had a shooting range about 18 year ago and him and his mates used to go on trips to USA to shoot prairie dogs. .220 swift was the calibre they used and some of the better shots were shooting them at 600 yards. Easier said than done but the swift and 22.250 would be nice flat trajectory for the job.
  8. without blowing my own trumpet we have farmers/hobbiest coming 100's of miles to us.even across sea's(isle of wight anyway) because in all my time there i've never known it to anything like that to happen.not even nicking a sausage.you should always tattoo pigs because ear tags can come out in the de hairer. i hear lots about it from customers how they've taken a pig in with a docked tail somewhere, went to pick it up and it must had grown one and they'd been assured it's the same pig. yeah a farmer told me about getting a heifer killed for his own freezer in local butchers and he wasn't happ
  9. A bought pig just won't have same flavour. I've heard stories too of the slaughterhouse keeping your organic pig for themselves and giving you back an intensive reared one. Or else taking 10 lb of meat for himself . There is a certain element of trust needed.
  10. You calling people idiots won't help the cause either for having an opinion, and again I never said all owners. What I said was a lot of owners shouldn't have them. If you think that everyone should have one then you are greatly mistaken. Maybe that's why desertbred is having success with them. He knows what makes them tick, so good luck to him.
  11. Minimum 6 inch blocks on enclosure with steel gates. I made the mistake of putting up a temporary teak door when they were small until I walked out with bucket of slop and they smelled it. 3 of them busted hinges clean off of 4 inch block walls bursts the blocks and were dancing on door excitedly waiting on grub. ??? They escaped outer enclosure once too and I chased them for 20 minutes with no joy until my Mrs told me to get a bucket of slop. They walked on back to bed happily. I bought an Andrew James 1800watt meat grinder online at the time and it was very good sausage maker.( mince twice
  12. happy days I don't know about uk rules but Irish are cnuts. Even the restaurants are forced to dump perfectly good dinners which would be ideal for pigs. Cross contamination bullshit. It probably ends up incinerated. This is the liberal world we live in. We can't have a pig or dog getting salmonella. People can't be trusted enough to see if there is green mould on food to dump it. They just want us to be robots, with common sense gone out the window. It's no wonder we have third world countries starving.
  13. I think if it cost 500 to buy but they lasted a lifetime then people would pay it. There doesnt seem to be any outstanding pair of gortex boots out there that are worth the price unless 2nd hand or grade 1 ex army boot. 300 quid for 1 hard season just isn't good enough when a pair of wellies is 20 quid.
  14. maybe I misunderstand the breed because around here they are only ever used as an excuse to get in close to farmers sheds to see what he has in them. I think these types don't do the dogs justice. Now I'm sure you would agree that these lads shouldn't have them. If you can get the best out of them then crack on there is not many genuine lads left.
  15. Legislation is the biggest problem. Huge fines for keeping them without herd number and illegal transporting due to foot and mouth, registered slaughterhouse for killing, vet checks, vaccines and inspections of housing when applying for number, its illegal now to feed leftovers from restaurants etc. A pissed off farmer next door is enough to cause a shit storm if he thinks his stock is in danger from disease by you not doing things by the book when he is jumping through hoops to keep his stock in order. If paying for feed you won't make a profit but organic rared meat ( with a small bit of meal
  16. . That's what I said Larry I've a German army coat I find it great,I heard the British army gear is shit but I've never had any so I wouldn't know. Better then the Irish army's uniform the boys all heading down to sign on I don't know about the guy on the left of picture. His footwear might be ok on concrete or tarmac on back alleys in the city but what did the lads in the hills wear on their feet without getting blisters.
  17. The theory sounds good but could you tame a wolf. Some breeds just tend to throw back problems in certain areas. Without doubt the better dogmen and trainers will get the best out of the breed that is possible to get but too fob it off as down to the owner all the time doesn't wash. I'm not just talking about Salukis here but all breeds in general. Patterdales don't make good herding dogs , herding dogs can sometimes be too intelligent for their own good, wheatens and their crosses tend to be dog aggressive, Salukis tend to work for themselves. All these are natural tendencies in the breeds bu

  20. Pull the lot. Ffs if some independent group came on here to educate themselves on the rights and wrongs of terrierwork or hunting and the type of individuals involved and their way of life they would be scratching their heads.
  21. Is there lumps in a fart? If not I've just sh1t myself.
  22. Bear in mind it's a national park and that bison season is September through June, it'll probably be opened for culling in the winter. National parks forbid hunting, albeit this being a special case. It'll probably be on foot and snow mobiles. Sneaking up on them won't be an issue. Finding 500 animals in 1150 sq miles might be an issue though!thats twice the size of England its about 737280 acres or roughly 32 miles by 32 milesits just as well I'm not a farmer buying fertiliser or I'd have a lot left over. I'm just trying to picture that area in my head 32 by 32 seems not too bad it's the s
