    Would try gripping shaft & coin in the vice, coin sticking half way up, tap it round the shaft then turn over and do the other half. Put a bit of rag between the vice and coin and polish up the face of the hammer and it shouldn't mark the coin too much.....not tried it but that is what i would do. Griff

    Latest NO 12 Antler Opinel i have been working on. First full carve i have done. Blade is etched with battery charger/ salt water/ cotton bud. Hope you like.

    love it beautiful knife Thanks. The skinner he has been commissioned to make is based on the same design but a 5inc blade rather than a 4.

    That's brilliant Moxy, love it! Often thought about making one myself but never got round to it, kids are a bit big for it now although you never outgrow a toy like that!

    My lad got his first commission for a knife. Spec is is to be 5160 5inch blade. Mircarta handle Kydex sheath Pics in progress. Blank cut and grinds marked. First grinds taking shape Rough cut of the home made black/grey denim Micarta Heat treated then tempered in the oven Final shape up and polish. Ready for scales to be glued on.

    I had the wolf paw one and it's the pride of my collection now, same sentiments as you. Thank Rabid, also a top bloke and spot on to deal with. The wolf paw was the first carved one i ever did and the wild boar the second so you have a piece of history there.

    Would think they would be a decent quality if he was a carpenter and went to the bother of making a wooden block for them. Just avoid the cheapy Chinese ones, soft as cheese and will make you wonder why you can't get it to work, it will be the stone not you.

    I would say don't use a cheap oil stone. An India oil stone is good. If your dad was a carpenter that is likely what you have (orangy coluor on smooth side and grey on coarse)Plenty of vids on yoube on sharpening a knife with an oil stone. Although saying that they all seem to do it opposite to me. I work from tip to handle and stroke away from cutting edge. Most of the vids seem to stroke into cutting edge. I am a carpenter myself and sharpened a lot of knives and tools in my time. A strop on a bit of leather to finish with if you want to shave with it. I have leather stuck on the lid of my o

    Yes tusks were tricky. Roughed it out wit a dremmel and did the detail with a small sharp wood chisel.
