  1. If it's not a trade secret where do you get your sandvik 14c28n stainless steel and how do you go about sending it away for treatment? Griff
  2. Any carbon steel blade is the same-it's the price you pay for having a blade that will take and hold a good cutting edge. Look after them and they will serve you well. If you want something shaped like a knife that you can get wet, throw in a corner until next time you use it then get a stainless steel blade. Griff Rio Your blades are carbon steen, any further thoughts for Sindasox? Griff ill happly make him blades from good stainless it wont come cheap though .carbon steel is what it is if you dont look after it and it rusts dont complain you are to blame for not lookin

  4. Ok Cheers will give it some thought. If anyone wants it and prefers pins i can add them if wanted. Griff
  5. Thanks Riohog, No pins, just cast straight through the tang so in effect one piece (it has a seris of 12mm holes) I was planning to put pins and a lanyard hole in after but kind of like it as it is and don't think they are needed.
  6. Few pics of finished hunter/ skinner. Kydex sheath with Tek-Lok belt clip for fast fixing/removal to an in-situe belt/strap. Micarta bead made from cutting of handle material. Belt clip is mounted in the horizantal position (can easily be changed to verticle) makes it very comfy to wear standing or sitting. The kydex is fitted to the knife and it clips into place with a nice resounding click, enough resistance to stop it falling out but still easy to draw the knife. Listed a lot of the pics but a few more here. http://s166.

  9. Played with a lot of opinels recently but not actually made a Knife for a while. Did this design a while back and decided to give it a go. Bit of an all rounder, hunter/skinner. Blade is 5inches long landy leaf spring with the 4.25 inch micarta handle cast direct on to it. Few step by step pics, more to follow. It will be up for sale on completion. Blank ground to shape and annealed ready for hardening. Plenty of decent size holes for the micarta to be cast right through the tang. Out of the oven after temper. Preparing micarta -8 layers of black, 8 layers grey d
  10. Better pic of the finished press. The indents in the neoprene slowly fade.
  11. Made up this simple press for making Kydex sheaths. Couple of bits of angle iron, old hinge cut in half. cuttings of 19mm plywood, 25mm neoprene. Kydex heated in the oven to 150 oc folded over the knife and clamped in the press until cool.

  17. Thank you skycat....good to see someone can see the real picture. It will last a lot longer than a fill of food & drink too.
  18. Yes that type of thing, think it is called a "rotozip" i use for roughing it out and a smaller no name 12v engraver for the detail. Use carbide burs in both. A small sharp wood chisel for fine detail. Griff
