  1. Looks like a nice practical shape blade, look forward to seeing the finished knives.
  2. The top 2 pics are the paw knife that and the boar are both sold. Just the end carve ones are £95 Griff
  3. Thanks Big Napper, i hope so too. To be honest i agree it is a lot of money for a folder and i would never have made it on spec as unless it ticks all the boxes for you the reaction will probably be like many of those on this thread....... I don't do full carves for that reason.....the time involved and the amount you have to charge for it folk just don't want to pay. I do end carves and they sell for £95 as fast as i can list them. And smaller no7 or no8 for £55-60 and i can't keep up with demand. And to be honest i get a better hourly rate for th
  4. Look forward to seeing that one. Griff

Griff Sorry didnt have anybody in mind , was just hypothetical Pity......thought i might have been on to a winner there...........Last time i did a job for Miss Hypothetical she didn't pay either
  6. Any one particular in mind ?.....maybe you could let them know i have just the knife they want for sale........... Griff
  7. I'm a builder to . My comparison would be we've done oak lintel beams for a few of fireplaces we've done . Most are just put straight in without any tweaks etc. One guy tho paid someone a few days wages to cut , notch , mould, sand, hack, stain etc and it looked beautiful . So amazing it's still in my mind . With the cost of the timber and the guys time spent manipulating it it would have been to expensive for most and as some have said on here it's to much . But one guy paid it and he has the nicest lintel over his fireplace I've seen . Might be expensive or overpriced but if you have the mon
  8. Also for the record.....I have no issue with socks....... and even if i did i wouldn't air it on a public forum. Griff
  9. I have a whole bag of blank wooden Opinel handles if you want to carve them.....safer too without the blades......do them half price £3.50 each
  10. do you really think Griffs gonna be open to more commissions LOL i never do commisin work without first agreeing a price and at least 50% deposit .most times im paid in full .ive herd all this .make me a knife and ill pay after before , ,sorry that doesnt happen with me ive seen to many folk say oh he doesnt want it now or cant aford it ,, .agree a price deposit shows commitement .job done ! From a man of few words...that's the most sensible advice yet. Cheers Riohog. Griff
  11. You hit the nail on the head Rake-aboot. Plenty can afford it so hence the price. Definitely no offense intended to those that cant. Griff
  12. Yes socks commissioned it. For his own reasons he has had to pull out of the deal. I have no issues with that. He did offer me £400 worth of new kit for it but i have most of it already so prefer the cash.
  13. Thank you deswal. We charge out our craftsmen at work at £27 per hr + VAT= £32.40 we have 28 of them and none could put an Opinel blade in an antler let alone carve a running dog. As for time likely about 24hrs work so at a craftsman's rate 24 x 32.40 =£777.60 As for the opinels yes they are cheap and in my opinion the best value for money carbon steel knives out there. Don't know the carbon make up but they preform as well as any 01 tool steel blade i have seen. You would be pushed to buy a bit of tool steel to make a blank for the cost of a finished Opinel. That is exactly why i buy
  14. Show me another the same for less and you can have it.
  15. The lurcher is on the classifieds. http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/367448-unique-carved-lurcher-antler-opinel-no-12/
  16. One off chance of owning this unique custom Opinel no12 & leather sheath. £295 inc recorded insured post. More pics here http://s166.photobucket.com/user/gruffalogriff/library/Lurcher%20Opinel?sort=3&page=1
  17. The lurcher might be looking for a home but she isn't cheap, pm if interested. Griff
  18. Can't say i have, didn't even know it was possible, I will have to google it.
  19. Latest couple of antler tine Opinels i have put 0.4mm self lubricating phosphor bronze liners in the pivot end. The standard method is good but these are even better. Smooth action and no play, harder wearing surface so should maintain the performance for years. Antler tips compliments of Sussex.
  20. riohog good vid that, I watched it the other night with my lad. I wonder how long that took him with no power hammer, these old smiths have amazing knowledge that is being lost. An old local smith in his 90's died at the start of this year, now there is no one in the county, he was the last of the traditional breed of blacksmith, everything on the coal forge & bellows and beaten by hand. Unbelievable skill & knowledge all gone. He did stuff with metal you wouldn't think possible, he even made a couple of pieces for the queen and met her in person twice. He loved to talk and share h
  21. Thanks T.C. I love his workshop, some kit he has there, would love a power hammer like that! All the health & safety red tape nowadays drives me daft but he takes it to a whole nother level, at least i wear gloves & ear muffs!
  22. A fly press will be a handy tool...always fancied one. Just cut one of the straps off the Aigle.... there just for show anyway Seriously though a bit of leather would work the same or probably better. Griff
  23. Tried my theary out and it works a treat. Grip coin and bar in vice, a bit of old wellie boot between vice jaw and coin protects the coin nicely. Tap the coin around the bar then reverse and finish off. Griff.
