  1. Nice one Jok! Good when you adapt a tool and it makes it better than the original and better still can't be bought off the shelf.
  2. Father in law wanted a long handled fork for clearing grass/debris out of ditches so i rattled this up for him. Old pitch fork head, heated/bent the tines half way, welded a bit of pipe on to form a socket for a wooden handle, ran the corners off a piece of Iroko for the handle.
  3. Nice Riohog, i like the long bevel grind.
  4. Perfect, thanks for letting me know Rabid, a pleasure doing business. Regards Griff
  5. I agree 100%, just something about them you don't get in new mass produced tools/ machinery. I would prefer to spend good money and time refurbing an old tool then buy a new one. After doing this vice it inspired me to have a go at an old leg-vice i acquired a year or so back. It must have lain outside for the last 50years and rusted into a solid lump, looked a bit far gone but half an hour with the oxy-propane cutting torch and i burned all the rust off and have it working too. Not pretty but fully functional. Heres a picture before - the one on the bench, the other is in better order
  6. Picked up this blacksmith leg-vice recently on the local facebook marketplace for £25. Gave it a bit of TLC and welded up a stand with bits from the scrap pile. Fired the forge up and put it through it's paces, very useful piece of kit. Handy to be able to get right round also deeper from jaws to screw than a standard engineers vice which never seems enough clearance. The benefit of a leg is it transfers the shock to the ground so good for hammering the stuffing out of the work gripped in it.
  7. Aye, hard to get time to do what you want. No mention of kenneling from anyone. Got more than enough to be doing though so no worries. Griff
  8. Cheers Jok. You got any projects on the go at the moment? Griff
  9. "I do hope this one stays as one of a kind" No intentions of making another wolf paw any time soon. Even if i did it would always be unique as every antler if different and i incorporated natural features of the antler where possible. I have some other ideas i would like to try out so may be some other unique opinels in the future listed. Thanks all for the positive comments. Griff
  10. Guess i will have to get some more Opinels ordered.
  11. One of a kind Opinel No 12. Wild Highland Stag antler handle with carved wolf paw. £95 Posted. Pm if interested.
  12. Looks good Dave. Thanks for posting. Could always put a couple of thin washers either side of the blade if too much play.
  13. Thanks Guys, Glad you like them. Heres the latest made it today. It's a Opinel No 12. Carved a wolf paw on the end of the handle.
  14. Thanks for all the positive comments, hope some of you have a go making one yourself. Made another lastnight, a couple more pics for other methods. Can form the shoulder in a lathe, line up the tip with the headstock, it wobbles about but it is the other end next to the chuck that matters. If you hold the end in the chuck you still need to do a bit of shaping on the sander but it makes it easier to get it acurate. Can also cut slot with small circular saw and clamp antler in vice. A dremmel is easier and safer just a bit slower, better take your time and keep you fing
  15. Thinking to sell the handles as ebay regulation compliant Opinels.
  16. Ok guys, have put an Opinel tutorial on my making your own tools thread. http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/339556-make-your-own-tools-thread/page-14
  17. Ok a lot of folks showing interest in the deer antler Opinels i have been doing so did a step by step tutorial when i made Flackos one.Posting here to keep all my stuff on one thread. Use surclip pliers to spring off the collar. Pick the end of the rivet with the least flare and file the sides of the flare off. Punch out the rivet. Ease it out the other side with pliers so it doesn't shoot under the bench as you will need it to re-assemble. Now this is what you should have. Pick a suitable antler tine curved like a banana and straight the o
