  1. Sticks, stones, water and fire combined with their imagination are all kids need to be perpetually amused. Thanks for sharing the pics, brings back much nostalgia. Griff
  2. That one isn't one i made, just a picture on file for a future project on a rainy day! I made my BBQ out of a double drainer stainless steel sink and a cast iron singer sewing machine treadle stand. Sits outside all year round and never rusts. The drainers are great for work space, the bowl is lined with fire bricks and draws air through the plug hole. Variable height grill rack over the bowl.
  3. Is that blade San-Mai or is the color change from annealing? Look forward to seeing the finished article.
  4. BBQ? Garden seats? Bells? Gas bottle forge? Foundry? http://jedisurvival.blogspot.co.uk/2015/05/smelterfoundry-from-gas-bottle.html
  5. You would think so but his legs cramped up as soon as he fell asleep so he jumped out of bed and danced about the floor until morning. He got sorted with a one and a half hour massage from a sports injury specialist, ok after that.
  6. Well Martin & William completed the 24hr challenge despite Gale force winds on Friday & Heavy rain overnight! Martin cycled 286miles in 24hrs! Don't have the totals on final amount raised but between online Justgiving, cash on the day & raffle tickets it looks like they will make their £5k goal. Thanks again to all who donated. A couple of pics of the event. 7hrs in me doing a bit of support riding with Martin. 12hrs in more support riders with Martin William & Martin on the finish line after 24hrs non stop! In the Clan tent 10 min after
  7. The old brake disc forge burn out. Borax flux for forge welding eats them up! My lad re-built & re-configured it to have a longer fire tray for long blades. Not tried it yet but should work.
  8. Always that annoying bit of lube left in the can but no pressure. I do a similar thing but just the blower on the airline and push the tin valve down with it and pump a bit more air in, it's a bit hit & miss. Definitely going to try the tire valve method in future, good tip. Wouldn't bother trying to re-fill though. As an aside a great penetrating oil is 50% power steering/transmission fluid and 50% acetone put it any pump action spray bottle(plant sprayer or the like) give a good shake and spray away. Works better than anything i have found that comes out of a spray tin. I have mine
  9. Cheers Ant, another top man! I left Marty at the track this evening after 7 hrs in the saddle(him not me), he is in good form and and still going strong, will be there tomorrow at the finish line to cheer him in. Thanks again to all who have donated.
  10. Brilliant thank you, great bunch of lads on here!
  11. Firstly- Mods this is not craft related so shift delete as you see fit, posting here as the lads here are familiar with my contributions to this section of the forum. My sister in law has been undergoing intensive treatment for leukemia over the last 10 months, she was only 30yrs old when diagnosed. My boss is doing this 24hr non stop cycling event for cancer charity Clan who were a great support to her and the family over the last year. They specifically support cancer patients & families who live remotely and live too far from the treatment hospital to commute daily. I will
  12. Just not getting the time Jok. Just bought a 2 x 72 belt grinder for the lad so he will start churning blades out when that arrives. Intended making one but never have enough time. Always making & mending but nothing too exciting. Got a few things to post up, again need to upload pics etc. Takes more than a few regulars to keep the forum going, good to see a few new/returning faces on here and posting stuff, keep at it lads
  13. Nice, i love file work on a handmade knife, makes it unique. Is it an acid finish?
  14. Nice one. Is that a bit of file work, can't quite see and what steel did you use?
  15. Good concept and seems to be a quick change to the chain saw attachment. If you didn't have a chainsaw and only needed an occasional single use here and there good idea. As mentioned would need oil for continuous use. Also i wouldn't want to be holding it if it jammed & kicked back.
  16. Your contractor will be charging you out to local authority at £200+ per m2 and you probably see £25 of that, i know because i price for a contractor and they do a lot of local authority work. I have also done my fair share of stone walling. A couple of pages form Laxtons and Griffiths pricing books a couple years out of date but give you an idea. Prices include stone obviously less if stone on site.
  17. Cracking Job Air Gun Ant. Nice looking slabs especially as you used the standard chain, look forward to seeing some more of your work.
  18. Nice job, sturdy looking little knives.
  19. If you supply the materials it would be a possibility. Pm me and can discuss.
  20. Modified this Openial No8 for my daughter. She found an antler last year while we were walking a Munroe in the Scottish highlands so i used a bit of that for the handle. Turned down the collar end on the lathe to fit the Openial hardware slotted the handle by clamping it in the woodworking vice and running a small cordless saw over it. Took a couple of hours so not bad for a complete custom job. The antler is the same curve as the blade so it is actually far more slim line and neat than a standard Opeial handle.
