A good dig with my Lakeland today
MUDD replied to lurcher330's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Good stuff pal, they're slippery customers them red fellas !! Couldn't watch them lol well done -
Cheers for the comments lads, they in the holes now alright. Enjoy it while it lasts !! Lol

Some people use there terriers for different types off hunting i.e. bushing/ratting/earthwork even RABBITING i believe. A failed terrier on earthwork may be a great bushing/ratting terrier !! One mans b&q terrier could be another mans makita. I don't know much about the bushing/ratting rabbiting end so it's just an observation. Don't want to know much about it either tbh. I'm sure if a man had a good bushing or rabbiting terrier and a fella offered him even near £500 for it he'd get his arm broke !!! That's the difference.

A terrier I might rate as a black n decker could be another mans makita !!!! Think about that !! would you want a makita tradesmans tool or a black and decker on your team of dogs mudd? just curious dude I'm not into brands off tools dude. I'm into terriers and I have a grade I like them to meet, like most people. Some people may be happy with a dog that I wouldn't entertain and maybe viseversa that's all. U get me now ? yeah i get you, but you dont seem to be grasping my point dude, some on here see there dogs as just tools of the trade, and as such surely if you want a tool

went out this morning with a few off the lads, tried a few spots just local no joy. headed out the road a bit and tried a wee spot that has been very kind to me down the years, always usually get a hunt there the farmers 100% and nobody seems to do it but ourselves. tried the first place well run but noone home. as we were walking down to the good spot i noticed a dark coloured fox in the field were the holes are he spied me also and headed for the bank, stopped took a look back at us and away he went over the brow of the hill. typical double ditch type burrows that have thick cover right alon

Not when its a trout river and the fishing clubs are putting time and money for years into bringing up the salmon levels. i can understand the need for control and its silly to add pike to a venue unless it needs some, but a few predators in your river will keep the sick and injured fish down, and keep your stock more healthy, every ecosystem needs predators. its very foolish to remove them all. it works in cycles too, if the predators get too numerous, stocks drop and then they eat each other (more than usual anyway)predator numbers go down, stocks rise again (of prey fish) and predators

I have paid for dogs in the past when things have went "pete tong" so to speak. Losing a few seasoned dogs in a year is hard for any man. Sometimes you think you have it all, then on the flip off a coin you can end up with a few empty spots in the yard. Hard to pull yourself back from. The best dogs I've had have been for free, from digging partners or friends off friends. anything I ever bought in was a waste of time, that's just my experience though. I've had a few gooduns down the years and believe me money has been very tight at times familywise. But I couldn't put a price on any off my do

That dogs not worth a batt !!!

Most people I know think when they see snow OH FOXS IN HOLES, not necessarily, I've found down the years as said above after the new year when the weather gets very cold heavy rain and strong winds, early the next morning is usually when you get them at home. I've hot a few in the snow but most of the time there prints just go up to the burra and them away again maybe marking it. After all sometimes it's too cold for snow to fall, so snow doesn't mean your guaranteed a dig. Atb

Totally agree with you there fella. I was talking to a man lives near to me, shot a fox from his 4x4 the other night. His words "3 fields away and 376 paces" the fox hadn't a chance ! Don't ask me what type of gun he was using because I'm not into guns. I just thought that was pathetic, I told him he would have just got the same buzz shooting at a glass bottle and it would have saved him the dander.

I do read a few books, but you are right nothing compares to the approach to an earth and seeing a few smooth entrances to holes, then looking round for more and seeing fresh kick out......collar on &........... Bump..... Agree with yous 100% lads
