  1. Thats good news seems to be a common theme them coming home I didn't they had any homing instinct as such. He must like it there for sure
  2. but you can only do so much mate it also comes down to the dogs ability in the field wether he will make the grade That is very true
  3. The money is a pain in the neck but this year I get 2 weeks off and the moon is waning I love cooking too so plenty of that to be done. As the girls have got older at least now we can get them one decent present instead of a load of tat that ends up in the bin
  4. I am a rubbish trainer put my hands up to that. But when I was younger I had some great working dogs that I was proud of and could hold there own in any company. The dogs had a natural gift and I gave them shed loads of work and time. They all came when called and i could walk them lose through field of lambs with out a care but as far as training went that was the extent of it. I intend to have another dog at some point and plan to get it to the working quality I had back then and properly trained as far as obedience goes. As you get older you realise you can achieve any thing if you put you
  5. cracking day there hard to believe your in wales That whippet seems to be your number one ferreting companion
  6. I wouldn't worry about the size of it just be selective in positioning the dog and slip it when the rabbits close to the hedge because once the turning starts up against the hedge it will come into its own
  7. tin of biscuits more likely to get eaten and every one have some
  8. Stick them all on end then give it large with the splitter while the wife is up ending them again for round two then throw them in the truck and away. None of this tidy stacking lark don't want to fit too many in
  9. Could may be use short bungee strap that was a nice bit of wood though for an example
  10. I use kennels for our cocker he gets good care main problem with them is they keep giving him back You just need to find one thats been around a few years with a good rep then you shouldn't have any problems other than the expense of course
  11. This I would agree with I remember a night last year nice and dark good breeze I ran out a couple of 50 yarders and bagged a couple of rabbits. All done in total darkness and as I strolled back with me rabbits I could see the farm house in the distance all lit up and no one had a clue I was there it was perfect. But night vision for me would ruin what it is all about and feel like cheating at the end of the day for me any way
  12. Keep plugging away I have been asking one farm for 3 years he finally cracked this year. He asked me to drop him in a rabbit but I can't seem to catch one on his land so I got one else where and dropped it in . Some just don't like the hassle of being asked one lady this week said in last 2 weeks 3 people had asked her and I was number 4 and she didn't look happy so I won't disturb her again
  13. Even if the rabbit see's the net do you think it decides to take its chances any way and attempt to plough through as it has no idea what it is? or run along it and get caught in the tailed net if it has been done. Rather than do a u turn and head off else where. I keep thinking of a video on here where it was filmed with the night vision and you can see a rabbit time and time again throw him self at the net trying to go through.
  14. Looks like they are doing well for you are you still using purse nets as well ?
  15. 1 is good enough for me Rabbit curry tomorrow and the liver went with steak and onions for tea
  16. Looks a nice spot and you look like you have been planted
  17. Very good videos dog needs to know his stuff in them tidal runs very powerful
  18. Glad you enjoyed your day would be much easier to break your dog if you had your own ferret so he gets used to them ? A chopped ferret won't impress your mate much
  19. thought I would try for some new permission this morning the first farm they was asleep but the second the fella said I was welcome to go just this once as he shoots him self. So better then nothing the first hedge was quite easy so obviously nothing in them but the second looked much better but a bit of a challenge on my own. Found about 10 holes looking pretty used and worth a run through managed to crawl around and set my nets as best I could. Popped my little jill in and she didn't show at any of the holes so looked good. Out the corner of my eye I saw a rabbit creeping into the net after
  20. Good job you got out the way of that jj and them bits of corrugated flying around not much fun either
  21. Don't rule out around the edges of built up areas I have noticed a lot of rabbits in some of these places. Permission is a bit tricky because a lot of it is council land or railways but there is the odd farmers field here and there I am going to try get permission on. 1 rabbit is a major success for me and the buzz is the same now as twenty odd years ago. I was a right noisy ferreter as a kid if a rabbit bolted out of open hole I would start legging it after it shouting rabbit and going whoop whoop and the dogs would come belting along ( not the way to ferret i know ) Got back into it few y
