Thats the best thing you could of done mate, but make sure you get a good experienced coach who you get on with. Being coached will help you a lot and stop you practicing the wrong habits. I dont agree with bird...better to practice the right way with clays first before going into hectic real situations. Lessons about a month apart with lots of practice in the meantime I would recommend. You can get a lot off youtube aswell.

Dew Claw Removal Whats The Disadvantages
jeemes replied to mhopton's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
always take them off pups. once they get damaged it never stops. -
What next? acorns, rape? or have you still got some stubbles to shoot over?

Very smart mate. Two important things about kennels is they need to be free of draughts and have good drains..
-
yes good stuff mate. I havnt seen any for years either.

Have you asked the trainer if he has any contacts? Have you had a look on greyhound data?
-
I just bought one of those bouncers on a flexible bit of tube. I havnt tried it yet but if it works then great! no wires, batteries etc

If you get it quickly to a greyhound vet you can get an op so the callousing isnt bad.

Whos a fan of this type of cross. They look like they can run but do they have the heart for it. I know they are said to be dog aggressive but is this also true or just the odd one?

good shooting mate, what caller did you use and how loud was it? Im going to have another go in a few weeks and appreciate any good tips.

Its not the stud but the pups you have to try to imagine. Mammals are not meccano sets that you can just make up. If you are happy with your bitch why are you not thinking of breeding her to another of the same type? If she lacks what you want I would just get another dog. If you really need to go on a forum to ask what type of dog you should use as stud then I suggest you dont bother breeding. Ask yourself why you want to breed a litter of pups in the first place.

The best Rook shooting Ive had was on layed Barley, they were suicidal. Ive found not getting out the hide unless you have to helps. They are clever but hopelessly curious.its strange really, many people looking for permission, would get some where by offering to shoot crow / rook, they are a massive problem when the crop starts to turn, or when the lambs are in the fields, and not many people put the time in with them, compared to say pigeon's, or rabbits, and if you do a decent job they will let you shoot the rest of the vermin, it's a way of gaining trust, they are a really good way in, I e

I used a talking crow a couple of weeks ago with real feathers on it. As a decoy bird it was fine but the calling didnt really have much effect. Crows see the decoys from along way off anyway. I think the hide is more important. I had quite a good day with a few carrion.

good luck mate.covers still a bit thick though.

Im also a Cluson fan. Well built and good wiring. Mine is a blazerlite with 100w bulb, metal reflector. It also has a hinged red filter. I use 9a lithium battery that is easily held in coat pockets. They weigh nothing,so i take two but rarely need a spare. Ive noticed these new cordless lamps dont seem to have filters, why is that?

I think a dog needs to be in the act of worrying when it is shot.Otherwise the shooter has become judge and jury.. If I was a dog shooting farmer I might be worried that someone might come one night and shoot all my sheep with hollow point .22 bullets in revenge for shooting someones dog..Christ they wouldnt even need a lamp.

seen a couple and they weren't that good. Not as quick as the collie lurchers on the day, and not as brave... Good hunters though in woodland and fellsideI'd have to see the parents working first like ! This foxhound X bull grey is suiting my needs at the moment great hunter and plenty of guts ! Never be a lamping dog which doesn't bother me Go for a fell hound or trail hound for a lamping dog! Much leaner than a normal foxhound. When you list the things a hound brings to lurcher lines it amazes me that they are not a popular cross but I must admit I wouldn't want too many knobs getting into

Whats black buck skin? I thought buckskin is what americans call fawn. Has she got ebt in her ?

Yes pal I read it tried to get my uncle to write in but hes not really an extrovert to be honest! But all the things Hancock said ring true to be fair this cross has been around and a few people use it, my uncle started a line about 20 years ago. not bad for a 1/2 fell hound 1/2 greyhound ehhh Did you keep the line going ?? What did the orginal first crosses go to next ?? thats where it gets tricky

That sounds like crap about him being reluctant because he thinks he will feel pain. If hes holding it up hes feeling pain. Is this vet a greyhound vet? Is that picture of it now or when it was bad? Have you tried a good greyhound chiropractor? Also I would keep putting sudacrem on it. Its great stuff and cant do any harm.

Im glad you said that. A lot of lads think coursing blood for lurchers must be good, but I think exactly the opposite for the reasons you said. A track I would use. I wouldnt go for a marathon dog myself,I would rather go for a sprinter, but thats just personal preferance.

tidy bitch that, whats her feet like?
