Staffy or English Oh dear, yes third post and already people giving me a load of S@$T. I specifically said I didn't want to know about illegal dogs. Honestly I'll not bother coming back here if that's the attitude. I've been reading this site for ages, just finally decided to join in. Thats where you are wrong and why we see so many young dogs jacking and up for sale before they are two. A dog isnt physically finished until its 2 and not adult in mind until its 3. A dog becomes adult at three.mate think you read my reply wrong I've a dog that is 2 in October haven't done much h with him because he isn't ready but has everything going for him and if you can't see that in a dog you have raised from a pup well give it a by do see what I mean in my Reply now ? Yes sorry mate...I didnt read it right.. -

Im not a Saluki or fen bloke, and Ive only seen the footage on youtube and I used to have the video (poor quality) of Lucky the dark destroyer, but some of these dogs are unbelievable..talk about gears!!! They are real running dogs some of them and being run in hard country by the looks of it. You can only have a lot of respect for animals like that.

Im sorry for that mate, but at last someone has owned up to what can happen. You had a bad experience but you learned by it,and thats the difference. You see people here who just have not got the real interest to learn. Some have been in the job five minutes and they know it all. Opinions differ I know but nature doesnt bend with opinions, and growth plates wont close sooner because lads cant wait to use the pups. -

A lot depends on the type,as lurchers are all sorts, but when you get a young pup out and about its doing only good and it benefits by every trip out. If that pup is going finish up around say around the seventy pound mark and a powerful dog and you continue to take it out doing serious work then you can do harm. You need to start being cautious around the age when the muscles are becoming strong enough to hurt there good friend the skeleton who has not quite finished growing yet. You can own a very powerful animal with a great set of muscles, but without a sound skeleton to sit on they are wor -

BS Never heard so much shite in all my life, If you don’t have time to take your dog out, sell it someone who has. Please don’t breed your kids will be stuck in the house until they are 21. Injury prone dogs are more to do with genetics, badly bred curs, and bad luck. You haven’t seen many farm dogs grow up have you? No Ive never reared a farm dog, but I dont think its the same as rearing a running dog, thats probably where you are getting confused. I have reared a lot of running dogs though and I would suggest that injury PRONE dogs are probably effected by genetics if you are badly bre -

i think you read to much mate, things aint black and white , exertion , like when kids come in from being out side all day and fall straight to sleep, twins ,ones sat on his fat ass on a computer all day the other helping out on the farm from a young age ,would there be a difference. as iv said before your whole body adjusts to what you do when your young , it most be right because when i was young i could never get a girl friend and iv always been none as a wanker to mates Perhaps you should read more, and then you might learn to make a bit more sense when you write. Things are fairly bl -

Dogs heart and lungs are not developed until 18months to 2years. Over exertion can not only cause physical but also mental damage. Pups should do no more than play run. Being pushed to over exert is bad for them. Biggest cause of defeat in a dog is lack of wind.no matter what the quarry. A dog is not capable of being fully fitness trained until it has finished growing inside its body aswell as out. You can ruin a good un. It happens all the time. -

Its a bit like the old English longbow archers who started training at around the age of 8 I think. There is logic in that, but the training would have to consist of fast walking and trotting on hard surfaces wouldnt it? That sort of steady repetitive action that builds up over time. Its controlled at least. No its not. That's how I interpreted what you said too. You said "as a general rule the growth plates finish development at 15 months, and its in the dogs interest not to put work like pressure on the joints until they have finished growing". read it again then.Read what again? This is why most dogs are ruined by 12months. A dog should be considered a pup until its 2years old..mentally and physically. -

Knowledge should come with experience. The two should go hand in hand. Please dont take the few on here as the whole world of running dogs, because that is not the case. Most running dogs WILL have injuries and niggles well before there 6th never mind 7,8,and 9th seasons but most cant spot them, and just assume the dog has slowed up a bit. As Ive said a 5 month pup running is one thing but when he gets to nine months I would take care. When we talk about lurchers there is a huge variety in sizes ,weights and levels of power, but has a general rule the growth plates finish development at 15 m -

jeemes replied to trigger2's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Pups from the age of 3 months should be allowed to run all they want right upto to 15 months. This is play running on turf or beach or similar, and its how they learn to run. They should not be jumping over anything significant. They will learn to stretch out and its vital that they do this if you want to rear a running dog to full potential. Chasing quarry is different for a pup that has grown muscle and gained some power but is still running on unfinished joints. -

you say lack of knowledge, so i take you've taken pups out from a very young age and they have all had joint trouble ,pups taken out very young do not run flat out its like a game to them there playing ,they live longer look younger and have less joint trouble , bit like humans who's looked after there health, I'm not saying this to stick up for trigger because i think he's a cnt. Why dont you read the post again mate. You have got completely the wrong end of the stick. Please read again to see I am saying just the opposite to how you have understood it. -

Its alright taking young pups out and letting them gallop to learn how to run,but the mistake is to carry that on from the age when the pup is getting some muscle but before the growth plates have set at the age of 15 months. A pup chasing at 5 months is a lot less likely to hurt itself seriously than a pup of 10 to 12 months, especially if its been going out a lot and gaining muscle. If that pup is made up of large powerful breeds it will already be able to generate quite a lot of power from its muscle, which is then being exerted on undeveloped joints. This is bad news.. A good sized pup is be -

Is that just dogs,or does it go for cars, beer, fags? You hear that many people on braggin about boozin or smoking dope. Theres always money for that, but they dont like spending on a dog.
