  1. they are bloody good! after spending a couple of weeks of going down to my field and either getting my army boots caked in shite or having my toes turn blue in normal wellies, mum suggested i borrow her Muck Boots. my god. they are sooo warm, even with thin socks on. after 20 minutes faffing about with the pony on a cold day in normal wellies i'd lost most of the blood flow to my feet and was in rather a lot of pain. not with the Muck Boots. down at the field for over an hour, and my toes were showing no signs of the usual frostbite, and i have particularly shite circulation. most recommended
  2. i know a lad who has a few ferrets, including a hob that is supposed to be vicious as hell. after a couple of weeks of him banging on about the deadly beast, he finally let me handle it. it was the smallest full-grown hob i've ever seen, it only tried to bite me once, and received a good smack for it's efforts. the main problem was that the lad & his brothers were scared of it. if you think it's going to bite, you'll pull your hand away as soon as it goes near it, even if the ferret just wants to sniff you. the ferret sees a retreating bit of pink, and lunges. if you really can't get
  3. the old lurcher men always told me "a year for bone, a year for muscle". i would add to that "and another year for the brain". my saluki x is nearly 2 1/2, he's long finished growing & changing shape, but he's only in the last few months really started to understand what it's all about, and consistently do what i tell him. i was ready to strangle him when i first came on here, he was so bloody frustrating! but now i couldn't wish for a better dog

    anyone

as the song goes... "I've been a Muff diver for many a year, And i spent all me money on muff diving gear, The snorkel, the goggles, the muff-diving tank, And when i'm not muff diving i'm having a wank..." i believe that's an old irish song
  5. i live in norfolk, which is proper poultry country. ducks, geese, turkeys, chickens, guinea fowl, reared by all methods, can all be found within 15 miles of my house. my brother looks after ten broiler sheds for a major local producer, so i get to sneak a look at some of the paperwork when he's not about! i've been banging on about this for ages. it's the timescales that bug me. as little as 39 days (depending on the strain of bird & feeding scale) from cardboard box to plastic crate. i'm glad the irish guy on HFW's show pointed this out, as no one i know believed me when i told them how
  6. bugger, bugger, and bugger. only heard of this breed a few months ago, discovered them when i was helping a mate do a bit of research into mastiff breeds, and it was love at first sight! 6 months from now & i'd have been able to buy one! but living with the parents again, and dad has banned me from buying another dog. well, i can buy one, i'll just be homeless! shit. should have no probs finding homes for them
  7. there's a fair portion of stuff posted in the hunting sections that's a load of pointless meaningless bollocks!
  8. this has been covered on the forum a couple of times before, someone posted a couple of pics of a springer x bitsa. do a search for it.
  9. FFS! i knew something like that was going to happen, and i still near shit myself!!!
  10. might be a munty, but it doesn't look quite right to me. can't be arsed to repost the pics, so check here - skulls
  11. and i almost forgot... the funniest bit of roadkill i've seen all year... pity i didn't have a tape measure!
  12. bugger me! i go away for a few months, and it all goes nuts on this thread! and the bleeding rules have changed! i didn't bother stretching the tail out on this one, cos i didn't think it'd count.... wish i had now! not a monster, but the biggest Gyp's had this year.

    Getting older.

    i've missed you molly!
  14. my broadband got connected today, so the novelty hasn't worn off yet. then i had a jd after i let the dog out, phoned my best mate & before i knew it we'd been on the phone for 2 hours, setting the world to rights & making plans for next year.... plus i'm not paying a fiver to get into my local, when they haven't even got a band on! yes, i'm tight.
  15. i am, it must be said, a jammy git. mum found it for me, and we go halves on the rent, so really it only costs me a fiver a week. it was a bit of a lucky find, and it's bloody cheap for round here too!
  16. yeah, i got a little shetland cross, he's only 2, so he won't be doing much til the spring, i've got to break him to drive still. but he only cost 165, so a bit of a bargain! and the field i've got him on is 5 acres for a tenner a week, and right next to some rather well-stocked shooting land... it's fair heaving with pheasants!
  17. haha, bloody fuel prices! i went & bought a driving pony when the juice hit a quid a litre
  18. i had to move back in with my parents, and my mum is the least technically-minded person on the planet, so explaining to her how to get broadband set up took the best part of 6 months! but hey, i'm back now. did i miss much?
  19. moving out of my house today, back to mums, where i won't have a net connection. so i'll be off here for a couple of weeks. how will i cope? i feel the withdrawal symptoms starting already! and i bet you're all thinking, "thank f*ck!" laters guys & gals Ossie.
  20. i hate Bernard Matthews, but that's because i work in the factory that prints their labels.... which, by the way, it doesn't pay to read.... some of their shit has this mystery ingredient, "food fibre". WTF IS FOOD FIBRE?!?! and which bit of the turkey do you get "turkey ham" from?
  21. happy birthday moley!

    veggy

ok, i just typed out a really long & well-written reply to this topic, and managed to delete the lot somehow before i posted it.... i really can't be fecked to do it again.... but the basic gist of it was... i come from a hunting/shooting/fishing family. i was veggie for ten years, and an anti for the first 7 of those (from the age of 12). i sat down one day when i was 19, and had a damn good think about all the issues i was (rather half-heartedly) against. the only logical way to go was back the other way, although i stayed veggie for a few more years, partly because i didn't ha
  23. if you don't want the seatbelt digging into your shoulder, and you're not too bad at sewing, make a moveable padded section for the strap. like a car seatbelt cover pad. or just get down to halfords & buy one mum used to make them for F1 teams, even Ayrton Senna had one of hers in his car posh ferret poxes we had, ferrari shoulder pads on them (well, a couple she made got "lost" on their way to the teams  ) like this- http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/...tegoryrn_31346#
  24. great pic! i've not seen any robins in my garden for a while, i think they've all buggered off back to spain i've not seen the long-tailed tits on the bottom meadows either. if they've got any sense in this weather, they're all hiding!
